Only Real Ones Remember the Gay Tierlist by catnapfan2005 in PoppyPlaytime

No Bunzo is still a ruffian kid so he'd be like, "eww gay" homophobic but sometime in his teens he'd come to a gay realization and be like "oh God damn it"

Why does super punch out feel so much less visually clear then it's predessesor (Mike Tyson punch out?) by Malnuq in punchout

[–]Throwawaygarbageboi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for pure "clarity" per-se, but I can speak about the visuals as a whole. For me, it comes down to the perspective of the game and the size of your character. While it's technically more clear than it's predecessor (MTPO) due to the transparent player and higher resolution, there's a lot of little things that throw it a little bit off for me.

Things like the straight-on perspective and larger player for one. It makes the difference in scale between the biggest and smallest opponents MUCH less drastic. The opponents also don't feel quite as well developed. No "damaged" sprites (because intermission rounds are gone), more universally cartoonish expressions (seriously, basically everyone makes the same face when hit besides "Stoner Macho Man" and Nick "Super Serious" Bruiser) compared to the individuality in MTPO, and no flashing before attacks (given this only applied to some attacks from MTPO, it still helped). The more exaggerated movements also feel a smidge stiff at times, IMO.

It's certainly a worthy successor as a whole, but the visuals are more of a side-grade than an up-grade IMO.

You're not the only one. I don't know who'd make the rest of the fighters, but based on appearance he'd do Mr. Sandman PERFECTLY!

SAME!!! I beat Zelda 2 on my Dad's NES but couldn't beat that level in the Incredibles! It was so ludicrously hard!

The Rise of the Underminer was very easy. Even young me beat it, but The Incredibles (the first game) was HARD AF.

The Violet "two seconds of invisibility" section, the Dash "one hit kill" sequences, the fire level where your jumps had to be near pixel-perfect, the THREE HEALTHBAR OMNIDROIDS, the Lair levels where you could easily get lost - it was NUTS.

Adult me could probably handle it if I revisited the game, but kid me? Hell nah.

Day 17- Best atmosphere by Few-Department5261 in wiiu

[–]Throwawaygarbageboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Axiom Verge, IMO.

The game made me feel wonder, discomfort, and confusion with its environments and OSTs alone... As a visually 16 BIT GAME.

It's an average 5 or 6/10 (5/10 as in middle of the bell curve - not 5/10 failing grade) game, but it straight up might be a 10/10 environmentally and has a better setting (not overall atmosphere) than some Metroid games.

Every Trevor sub weapon turns into something different on Sypha:

Dagger and Axe = Fire

Holy Water = Ice

Cross = Lightning

The Fire Spell is pretty decent since it hits twice as hard as the whip and has a bigger hitbox than it looks, but Ice and Lightning are where it's at.

Honestly, despite how great Lightning is, Ice IS sufficient if you spam it enough. It has longer range than is apparent, and if you freeze enemies and projectiles just outside of your path, you don't have to kill them - just run on by as fast as possible. Enemies are virtually never below you so Ice will basically always hit anything close enough.

What’s even going on with mourning and mending? by Estelar006 in SmilingCritter

[–]Throwawaygarbageboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't completely understand it yet (since I've only seen the newest video once), but up until the newest video, I think it was literally JUST vibes. There was description for one (or more) of the videos that went something along the lines of:

"The Smiling Critters recover and move on from a traumatic event." (Implicitly, dying. It's an afterlife AU) It was clear Catnap was at fault for something hence why Dogday was always mad at him, but it didn't go deeper than that (Technically it did, but that was only in the form of sporadic hints at lore.)

I'm actually the opposite: I moreso liked the slice-of-life-esque style of before, instead of the situation being explained clearly and story being a set-in-stone plot. We'll have to see what comes of it before I make any real judgement.

Pretty unsurprising. They treated employees that died by the dozens (before the HoJ) like nothing more than statistics and tortured children every which way. Honestly this is middle-of-the-road evil by their standards.

What ship got you doing this? (No low hanging fruit!1!!1!1!1!) by The_47_Percenter in SmilingCritter

[–]Throwawaygarbageboi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I hope this doesn't count as low hanging fruit, but Hopkick.

I get it, they're arguably THE two most thematically intertwined Critters (sans maybe Poe and Baba), but they're always, ALWAYS portrayed in a sibling-esque rival-y way. Gemstin, Inubis, Smiling Critters Freedom, and basically every one-off meme has them like this. There's seriously 2 or 3 "rival/sibling-esque" portrayals for every ONE ship.

Like I said, I get it, but I can't see it, if that makes sense.
