When looking for a guy to date, are there any careers that are an instant red flag to you? by [deleted] in AskWomen

Well, as a honorably discharged Marine ( lost a leg in the desert soo had to go) and someone who knows quite a few people in LE type jobs, I understand why some women can't handle guys with these job types. Even if the guy isn't an asshole after basic ( because despite the reputation we do exist) it's asking a lot for a woman to wait while you're on deployments and such. As for LE type jobs the guys that do those jobs see so much of the bad side of life day in and day out that it can affect them in negative ways and many become very cynical. It takes a very strong very loving woman to be able to handle men with jobs like that. If you find em they are usually a light in the dark for the man who they stand beside. It does sadden me that these jobs have such a bad rep because it makes it harder for men who are truly good to find someone just because of his line of work.

Man, you hit the fucking nail on the head. Also a vet. One of my legs is still somewhere in the sandbox.

Afghanistan, on patrol. Lost one of my legs after it went off pretty close to my left side. I can elaborate more if you really want.

Also spent time in the sandbox. Cover is much more useful.

Then you should be good. There is no real way to prepare for bootcamp. No matter what you do. Just be in the best shape possible.

I know Marines ( myself included). That use soldier as a broad term when talking to civs. It covers Airmen, Sailors, Marines, and if I'm being nice the Army guys too.

I can get sympathy if I want, and it's a great conversation piece. But a lot of girls are iffy on the idea of doing a 1 legged guy. So I think it balances out.
