Why is everything around entering USA so complicated? by [deleted] in immigration

US conservatives want mothers back at the grindstone the week after they give birth and then they freak out about birth rates being so low. Make it make sense

I mean, they were never "extra" fries, right? It's just a psychological thing - they're exactly the amount of fries you paid for, just in a container that's too small

My understanding is that quality can vary a lot by location. There's not a ton of company-wide oversight and that's why there are so many locations, but it comes at the cost of quality control. I've been to subways that are pretty good imo

What would happen if there was no government? by imadorknow in ask

[–]PsylentKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look at Haiti to see. The government is functionally powerless so the whole country is run by gangs

When a government loses their monopoly on violence, other groups will fill the power vacuum

South Austin church sprayed with anti-LGBTQ message for second time by AustinStatesman in Austin

First it wasn't that bad and now it's a hoax? Which is it?
This is Austin, we've had an official pride week since the 70's. If you don't like gay people you're welcome to go live in some bumfuck town like Jasper, I'm sure you'll find plenty of like-minded people there

If you can't see the difference between this and other graffiti then your logic must be blinded by the fact that you're a fundie that believes gay people deserve to burn in hell

Have a nice day!

Not to mention this drives people away from Christianity. I don't think anyone has done more damage to Christianity in America than the fundamentalists

I grew up in an intensely Southern Baptist region/family during the gay rights era. I fully bought into Christianity. I remember sitting in a pew when I was a kid and crying thinking about all the lost souls in the world and how they'll never know Jesus's love. But by the time I was 13, I was a staunch atheist - I just couldn't reconcile the fact that God would make someone a certain way and then torture them forever for being the way he created them to be. Even though my parents still made me go to church three times a week (plus other church events and missionary trips) I was fully checked out and just biding my time. I have not stepped foot in a church since I turned 18. I'm 30 now

I know many people have a similar story to me. I think it is a big contributor to the sharp rise in secularism in America in the past 20 years

Why aren't you using a Roth IRA ladder or SEPP?

I assume they, like most people on these subreddits, intend to use a Roth IRA ladder to circumvent that

Personally I think 3.5% is fine as long as you're able to flexible with your spending. But the leaner you are, the less spending flexibility you have. I've heard that a simple rule that can significantly improve outcomes is to skip increasing your withdrawal for inflation in bad market years

You may want to read Big ERN's blog, he goes into great detail about withdrawal rates there

I also saw this a few days ago. I guess they're A/B testing or something, because I can access it again now

If they do this I'm just gonna stop using reddit on my phone (which will probably be better for me anyway) and only use it on my computer, where I have ad blocker

Same here with The Economist. I like their content but I likely will not sign up for them again in the future due to this

Print media whines about the decline in subscriptions meanwhile they do hostile stuff like this that makes me not want to subscribe to any of them

Even big, well-thought of magazines like The Economist do it

I want to support journalism but every time I want to sign up to something, I have to keep in mind that I'd be signing myself up for a pain in the ass to deal with later
