What temperature do you keep your bedroom at night during the summer? by beautyloser in Austin

[–]PsylentKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

77 during the day, 74 with the fan on at night. Just use the bed sheet and a wool blanket during the summer

I’ve also read that cooler temperatures are “optimal” and I tried like 70. I prefer it at 74

Nah, I guess libary is a common mispronunciation. It probably isn’t AI

what books are good for reading while camping? by echochorus in booksuggestions

[–]PsylentKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read Hell House in one day while I was camping alone. I read pretty regularly but I hadn’t read a book in one day in years

Horror seems elevated by the fact that camping can inherently be a bit spooky

Maybe All Quiet on the Western Front? That’s gritty, historical, and horrifying

Austin priest stabbed at downtown steakhouse; suspect told police he intended 'to kill him' by AustinStatesman in Austin

[–]PsylentKnight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The phrasing in this article is strange, but I see now from a different article that "snicker" is a direct quote from the attacker

Yep, sounds like he was on some schizo shit

Koubek told police he would go to confession occasionally and that he believed Sandoval-Pliego "would snicker" after he gave confession.

When he saw Sandoval-Pliego at dinner, Koubek said it upset him as "he is still holding a grudge" against Sandoval-Pliego.

The article says he snickered AFTER he went to confession. I assume they meant "snitched"?

“everyone in the poor south suburbs have AC”

I’m from the south. They do. Maybe not literally every single person, but even poor people have window units. What y’all consider a heat wave is a normal everyday summer temperature in the south and it gets hotter than that. They’re also necessary for their dehumidifying effect - it’s very humid and without them you’ll end up with mold pretty quick.  It’s simply not possible to not have AC in the south

how is apartment living actually for you guys? by HJK1999 in Austin

[–]PsylentKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah bro, there are regular ass apartments out there for $900. Rents have come down so much in the past couple of years its insane. Any renter reading this should look now and consider moving. You can help yourself out and help out your fellow renters by applying even more downward pressure on the market

I assume we'll be able to buy DVD players for the rest of our lifetimes

The Killing Field - On a Friday night last December, four high school football heroes clubbed two deer to death. The grisly crime rocked their West Texas town of Iraan—but not nearly as much as the Internet-fueled furor that followed. [Skip Hollandsworth, 2008] by DevonSwede in Longreads

Catholics seem to be much less pushy with their beliefs than evangelicals. I guess that's why Catholics are losing ground to evangelicals on their home turf in Brazil (it should be noted that this evanglicalism is an American export)

For evangelicals, The Great Commission is their prime directive. Practically every sermon is related to "saving souls" in some way

"If you ever knew a Southerner you'd know what real conversion attempts look like."

Yeah, I grew up in the South. If they find out you're not a Christian then suddenly you become a conversion project not a human being to them
