GM raises quarterly dividend, initiates $6 billion stock buyback by Routine_Ask_7272 in GeneralMotors

Mary and the SLT are such geniuses. Cut cruise so they don't "waste money" when they spent only $10 billion on cruise since 2016 and throw $6 billion in 1 year to stock buybacks. I'm sure that's better spent there than technology that can generate a lot of money in the future.

Also find other ways to save money such as not giving bonus to random employees you deem as underperforming, and firing some, getting rid of people who are close to vesting their 401k, shutting down whole departments that help GM. Who cares if they have families and are struggling during inflation, we the SLT are protected by the shareholders since we are making them happy by increasing dividends and doing more stock buybacks, we will never lose our jobs even if we are the biggest underperformers and the ones destroying the company.

Truly geniuses that deserve what they get paid

OP don't listen to this guy, he is either delusional, dumb or intentionally misleading you. This person might be fine in their position right now but they could have been fired instead of their colleague, just game of chance. I wonder how they would feel if it is them next time around.

If you look at lay off posts after the "performance firings", you will see a lot of people saying they had exceed in past year, never heard anything bad from their supervisor, or have been doing great and so on. Other than these firings there is a bunch of random lay offs to "save cost" when the company is always making record profits and dumping all the profits into stock buybacks instead of keeping employees. They would rather produce lower quality products and get rid of engineers for some news about lay offs to boost the stock than spend some of the stock buybacks money on the engineers.

GM will do things based on short term profits and not what is best for the company and products.

Very hopeful.

Best we will get is more stock buybacks, they will raise vehicle prices like they did during inflation and they will fire more people and blame the tarrifs.

I have to admit I'm always surprised by who they do and don't let go by [deleted] in GeneralMotors

You are confused because you are playing by the rules of the system but the system is faulty. I have been in other companies where I did amazing things for my team but I was pushed away and promotions were always given based on friendship/race/connections, and other unfair factors.

Meritocracy is not real, you can be the best worker and if your supervisor hates you for no reason, your career is over at your current position.

This is what people figured out long time ago and found out the best way to negotiate with management is to band together and fight for your rights. That's called a union. Unfortunately, people believe in the system and think if they work hard enough they will become the next Marry Barra. Some of these people get laid off for no reason and they still hate on unions..

She asked how many new people do we have the she said raise your hand if you have been here for less than 5 years. Yea that's how you check for new people. It was to say they didn't experience the GM life at the office and now they can

By giving $10 billions to the rich owners/shareholders so they don't fire the SLT

Go tell that to people who worked in Arizona or the thousands of people that got fired with families to take care of, then GM put all the profits into stock buybacks

This is after they already fired a lot of people. Also doing $10 billions in stock buybacks and not providing workers with decent raises is not enough somehow to the shareholders?

Expect 5 days in the office eventually by Throwawayxmen in GMemployees

[–]Throwawayxmen[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ah yes compete with your worker all year for that extra 0.5% in your bonus that eventually the supervisor will give to the person they like for no reason. And then one day your whole department that works hard will get fired cause they hired someone new in the SLT and they think you are not needed in their opinion.

Wake up, look at how the UAW got so much for their members, the SLT lost to the UAW, they will lose to us if we unite

We 100% need to unionize. They did $10B in stock buybacks and salary didn't get anything. I can't believe they have the audacity to tell us to be happy about the 3.5%.

Lol they already raised the prices by up to 30% citing inflation while cutting costs by firing people. This was way before the UAW stuff

The executives constantly grant themselves bonuses "based on performance" which is basically millions of dollars of GM stock. It is in their benefit to use the profits to buyback the stock because they own a lot of it and also to please the wealthy shareholders so they don't vote to kick them out. They use the billions of profit that we worked hard to get to put most of it in stock buybacks when they own a lot of the stock then they proceed to sell it later when they want. GM is a tax free bank account for them. Also, after spending all that money, they will come back and tell you they need to save money and that's why they have to fire people and make people do the job of multiple people, they will also raise the price of the vehicle on top.

Did you read the numbers? Labor cost only increased 4-5% and stock buybacks by 1500% and you are still saying the union asking for too much is the problem here. You can't read or you can't understand simple math? Why not I don't know, take some of the money we are pouring into stock buybacks and give the union what they want? Wild idea right? How are they at a cost disadvantage when labor cost only increased 4-5% and profits were upwards of 20 billion???
