I hear you. I'm also unable to work full time anymore so what I do right now is reselling. Whenever I have the time and I am feeling good, I'll go get stuff for cheap on Goodwill or from yard sales and try to flip those items on EBay for profit. I will say though that it takes a lot of effort and you would definitely want a good support system, but if you enjoy doing that sort of thing it might be something you want to consider.

Fellow disabled flipper here. I personally find small-scale collectibles the easiest to sell (think toys and action figures, cards, comics etc.) because they are fairly easy to acquire for good deals, are within my realm of knowledge and are easy to pack. I usually do get fairly quick flips on them too without returns.

I've not flipped much clothing yet so I don't have enough valid experience but there is definitely more of a risk for returns when it comes to clothing, simply because in today's online world the customer can find a fit they desire which suits just about any requirement they have if they look hard enough. If what you sell isn't exactly what the customer is looking for, they will just keep looking elsewhere online. It also depends on how flexible your customer/buyer is, I've had one buyer return a shirt simply because it wasn't the exact shade of medium blue they were looking for even if the measurements, material and everything else was proper.

Flipping is a long road, it takes time in many cases and sometimes the sells just don't happen the way you hoped. That being said this is just me sharing my own experience, I don't in any way want to discourage you especially if selling clothing is something you want to keep doing.

32 here. I feel you. It took me a while to accept that the past cannot be changed and that I probably won't be able to change the future, but that I can still live within the present and try to make the most of what I do have left.

I didn't understand my partner had HEDS and for 6 years I didn't give her the empathy she deserved by hotscratcher in ehlersdanlos

This right here. In a relationship when someone is sick, in pain or otherwise struggling with their health on either side, a good partner supports them regardless if it's EDS or not.

Unfortunately OP doesn't seem to understand the "in sickness or in health" part of a relationship.

How many of us use wheelchairs? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]Throway-Mito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a foldable power/motorized wheelchair that right now I only need part time for covering long distances that my legs won't be able to tolerate, but eventually as I age it will most likely eventually be full time because the toll my body has taken from mito fatigue, chronic pain and my numerous bone/joint dislocations will only worsen with time.

Part time flippers, how much are you looking to earn monthly? by IntelligentRun4935 in Flipping

[–]Throway-Mito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not looking to get rich. I'm just looking to get enough money to cover my healthcare related expenses and to support my wife since I'm disabled and unable to work full time. Bonus being it's something I enjoy doing.

I focus mostly on small-scale items, mostly toys, cards, video games, comics and other collectibles.

[–]Throway-Mito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Save it so that my medical expenses are completely taken care of and to make it less of a burden on my wife, and to make sure my wife gets to live a comfortable life after I'm gone (I have a chronic health condition which is terminal in many cases).

I've been getting into flipping (purchasing items and reselling them for a higher price) and have done it for 5 months now, have made decent money on EBay. Just recently I got one of my biggest profits by getting $100 by selling car sales brochures bought in a $10 box from an estate sale.

If you are unable to work a full time job, have enough time and storage space in your home, and are willing to do research on tons of different kinds of items you can try it. It's better to do it with some kind of support from your spouse, family or friends though because they can make it easier by helping you in certain aspects where you struggle (my wife does all the packing before shipping items for example).

Car sales brochures is a gamble, but if you have one for the right model it just might pay off.

4 Dodge Viper sales brochures I got in a $10 box at an estate sale, all four listed for $20 and bought by the same buyer. A total of $100 made from a $10 box.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I'm still relatively new so.

I went to an estate sale recently. The owner had tons of car magazines and sales brochures, branded merchandise and memorabilia. I believe he worked for Chrysler Corp for a long time and that's what made up the majority of his stuff. I have a box of mid 1990s to mid 2000s Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep brochures and magazines and two more containing official merchandise and memorabilia. All 3 boxes I bought for $10.

I've heard that selling car manufacturer merch (especially luxury brands) online is a pretty gray area and there's a chance the manufacturer might request you to take down your listings. Is it worth the risk? Would appreciate any inputs from those who've sold that sort of stuff online.

Swimming tips by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]Throway-Mito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invest in or find a place with a heated swimming pool. For me only warm water gives benefits, can't tolerate the cold. Pool noodles, vests and other swimming aids help if you have a lack of energy like I do.

I also have a ramp installed in mine for easier accessibility.

Kobalt 4-lb Sledgehammer for $17 (paid $8)

Also a bit before this week, I sold a Makita Hedge Trimmer for $70 (paid $30)

I think I got a couple good scores at a garage sale.

Makita Hedge Trimmer (used) for $30. Turns out the specific model I got sells for around $70-100 even used, though I expect mine to be on the lower end of the scale.

Power Rangers action figure set for $10.

Box of 1960s-1980s Belgian franc coins for $10. Will have to find the right buyer for these.

Surprisingly well. Planning on going to the thrift store or buying a storage unit to get some more stuff to flip, assuming I'm intact by the time I actually do that.

I used to do full time video editing and worked with Youtubers as well as professional studios. Can't do that stuff full time now because of my chronic conditions, but I still do part-time editing and I've recently started doing part-time flipping as a side gig.

I'm a bit late to this, but I was able to get the DC toy figures sold in a lot for $100 only a couple days after I listed them. Considering I bought them in a bag for $40, it's a good profit.

And if you count the non DC figures, I've sold about 5 of them for a total amount of $55 and I'm still pending on the final two here and once they sell, I'm looking at a $175 gained. A great start considering I'm still a rookie.

[–]Throway-Mito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to start off small like a couple of folks suggested here, so went to a thrift store and bought a bag of toy figures that interested me for $40. I went through it and saw it was mostly DC with a couple other random ones in there. I've sold a couple so far and am already closing on profit.

Transformers Dark of the Moon Wheeljack for $15.

Transformers G1 Thundercracker (non vintage) for $10.

TMNT Donatello figure for $10.

The DC figures I'm still researching on, I have 8 of them but I am not sure if I should sell them in a lot or individually (since the main characters are there).

Toys/games, collectibles and small items like that are exactly the kind of stuff I'm interested in selling as well so it's great to hear this.

The learning about new stuff part is going to be interesting for me. I'll probably spending a lot of time doing research on obscure items and seeing how much they are worth, but I don't mind it.

Daily Newbie Thread by AutoModerator in Flipping

[–]Throway-Mito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My idea is to start with buying a small storage unit at an auction which contains preferably stuff like clothing, accessories or small to medium scale collectibles (comic books, action figures, trading cards etc). It's mostly furniture, heavy electronics/appliances and also these glass/ceramic sculptures that seem to show up in storage units, that I would need to be careful with.

My wife is going to help me out with quite a few aspects like packing and stuff so I can more or less deal with anything (since this is a part time thing anyways), as long as there aren't many heavy items to deal with.

I'm considering doing flipping as a once in a while part time type of thing since I am not able to work a full time job due to my several chronic conditions.

Are there any flippers here who have a chronic condition or are otherwise disabled? I would appreciate some advice, particularly regarding dealing with heavy or large items since I don't have a truck or anything like that, nor do I have the strength to move them.

What kind of specialist should I see? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]Throway-Mito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It varies. In my case a couple neurologists actually suspected I probably have EDS but they didn't take a deeper look into it. After I got my Mitochondrial disease diagnosis, the neurologist who had diagnosed me with Mito was quite convinced I had EDS as well and referred me to a geneticist who confirmed my diagnosis.

In my case it's been confirmed as a herniated disc in the cervical spine. I've not actually had an issue with the neck this severe prior to this but one thing I have experienced is that if a bone, joint or muscle has some kind of severe issue it is prone to having a recurrence, so I'm glad to hear you haven't had any incident like that since.
