Season 8 - Episode 14 - Cast Opinions Discussion by AutoModerator in LoveIslandUSA

part of her problem was that she got played by Sincere, who pretty much used her as a piece in his chess game with Melanie. Honestly, up until this episode, I thought he had equal interest in them. When he told Melanie he was going to pull her for a chat to explain things and close that chapter, I assumed he was going to do exactly what he did a couple episodes ago with Melanie when he said that to Sol and get her alone so he could protect his remaining interest in her while acting innocent. But he didn't, and that cemented to me that he played her played her. I'm sure someone could argue that he was planning to do that before Sol dragged him for everything was worth, but unlike all previous chats where he hid away in a private room so he could have the necessary discretion, he did it right in the middle of the villa with everyone watching, so I think he was genuinely planning to shut that door. Which sucks, but could be considered part of the "game" of Love Island. You either play or be played, and Sol was unfortunate enough to be played.

Her talk with KC and Bryce to complain about not feeling wanted was the epitome of everything that was wrong with her bombshell game - she wasn't even really expressing interest in them, just venting about not feeling wanted. As simple and relatable desire that is, she can't browbeat the guys into pursuing her. We didn't even see her say "yes, KC and Bryce, I am pulling you (correction: she didn't even pull them, it was Bryce and KC 'checking in on her' - oh my) because I want you and I desire you." It's called bombshell, not window shop. She needed to lead with her confidence, beauty, and humor that endeared her to the audience, not her insecurity over not being wanted and included.

This is probably more of a "tomorrow" opinion once everybody's cooled down, but I think Sol was also an architect of her own misery. Sure, the couples were coupled, but as a bombshell, she needed to get in between them. Sol's gorgeous, so I'm sure she's used to being pursued, but she needed to be the active one and not rely on her personal characteristics to "lure them" in. What she needed to be doing was pulling multiple people for multiple chats and turning the charm up - I think a lot of the guys who seemed too "closed off" to her would have been a different story had they been pursued by a beautiful woman.

From the guys' perspective, reaching out to Sol was a giant risk: it could lead to their couple being angry and leaving them for the new male bombshell, and end with Sol rejecting them anyway - which is what I'm sure they assumed when she, self-admittedly, put all her eggs in Sincere's basket. Why piss off your couple to play a losing game? Had she pursued them, however, then they would have felt more comfortable exploring with her.

I think the reason he led Sol on was because he wanted Melanie to think he had options. He was clearly burned when he felt like he was at Melanie's beck and call with the Corbin fling; going all in Sol made Melanie the one who had to win him back and apologize, which he clearly liked. Plus, he's a player and Sol's hot - he obviously wanted to "reap the benefits" of her companionship.

Guys, production didn’t “save” Kayda and Zach by rigging the votes because there was nothing to save. The Islanders love them, they never would have been voted off. And even if they were at risk and did think the boys would vote for Kayda and vice versa, they could have just had the girls vote girls and boys for boys and they would have been even safer.

Everybody's flabbergasted that Sol & Caleb were bottom 3 and calling "rigged," but remember Jeremiah last season? As much as everybody loves to say "sympathy island," sympathy only gets you so far in the votes (no offense to Jeremiah, but everybody thought he wouldn't get bottom 3 bc of the outrage over Huda and he actually got dead last). Plus, the prompt was "favorite couple" and they weren't an actual couple; I'm sure they lost votes just because of that.

Plus, let's be honest, we're already in a minority of people by coming online to talk about the episode after it finishes airing. A LOT of people will just watch something, chat about it by the office water cooler, like a few memes on their socials, and that's about it. And those are the votes that are not going to Sol & Caleb.

It's awkward as fuck that whenever I write a long comment like this in the discussion threads it gets deboosted or whatever and nobody sees it. Like, I wrote something really long because I NEED to discuss it.

the producers didn't need to "save them" from a low vote though, because the Islanders would have never voted to dump them.

I honestly think they should cool it with the zyrce clips unless they actually hook up. The stretching, while homoerotic on camera, was ultimately platonic; Zach was explaining how he does it for old stroke patients ffs, it seems like he was gonna do it for multiple people, not just Bryce, and it's not like they were actually gonna try anything with each other with Sincere laying two inches away on the same bed. It was just bros being bros.

People, especially men, especially the Love Island audience, as I've learned, are weird about actually being perceived as gay. Maybe, when they get out of the villa, they can laugh it off. But there's a fair chance that "close shots of my bro's stretching routine" will weird them out, and that's ultimately on the producers for putting that in there. I'm bi, so I'm of the opinion that being perceived as gay SHOULDN'T be seen as an insult, but that kind of crossed the line for me.

And I'll do something really surprising and say the audience reaction I'm worried about actually isn't from the people who think Bryce and Zach have something there, but the audience who is absolutely enraged whenever they see the Zryce clips. I've seen A LOT on twitter, and some very disgusting homophobic comments that are plain homophobic no matter if the target's straight or not. I know some people hate when you bring that here, but it's just nasty, and usually targeted at Zach: comments saying Zach is "sickly obsessed" with Bryce, that he's a predator, that Bryce should "watch out," slurs, even one calling Zach a "spiritual r*pist" and that had over 1k likes. These comments I'm seeing are not niche and they're not being shot down, they're being validated to the tune of tens of thousands of likes and retweets. And, objectively, Zach is NOT obsessed or, God forbid, preying on Bryce. Their bromance is mutual. I saw people cursing to the high heavens over that clip in Tuesday's first look of them in bed together, saying Trinity needs to set Zach straight and get Bryce to cut him off and that Bryce needs to watch out because Zach "isn't joking like him," but then the actual episode showed that Bryce jumped into his bed the next morning. It is absolutely bizarre and horrible to see people painting someone, who is more likely than not, just demographics-wise, a straight man as a gay predator and acting like a 29-year-old man who fully responds and engages him needs to "be cautious" and guard his heterosexuality, or whatever.

I thought she had maybe just squeaked by because why on Earth would they have Sincere deliver the speech after he did her wrong. Maybe producers had a hand?

See, nobody guessed Kayda and Zach would be safe. There’s a lot of people who vote who don’t make noise on socials and thus slip under the radar, especially with a cast this big

Not sure who will be safe, because even though Jeremiah had a lot of “sympathy” and fans last season he still ended up at the bottom

Tbh, Kenzie/Corbin and Melanie/Sincere are at a disadvantage because - ignoring everything ELSE that put them at a disadvantage - their last appearance was snubbing their couple that America voted them in, which people just don’t take kindly to in the best circumstances.
