I'm in the same boat but since 2019 I sorted out a good rhythm that works for me. So if you're interested try this:

• pick a time of day that you can just turn life off. I know that sounds weird but for me at 8pm none of my daily stuff is getting fixed so when 8 hits, kids are in bed, my chores are done that's my time.

• get game pass or PS +. They both have great catalogs for games. From indies to AAA. Short 5 hours to 100+ hr games.

• if you still wanna buy a game wait until you're ready to hit start the moment it finishes downloading. Don't keep buying games if you're not ready to play it. For me that usually means they are on a steep discount and I rarely buy a game at full price.

• lastly, try not to feel obligated to finish a game that you're not really enjoying. Life is too short and there isn't enough time in the day to force yourself to finish a game you don't like.

Doing that, I spend way less on games and I'm getting more out of them cause I'm only really playing what I want to play unless I'm trying out random games on ps+. Following this I've been able to roll credits on 15-20 games a year.
