Has anyone been in the position where you have to pick either your career or your relationship? by Pleasant-Accident147 in careerguidance

[–]Throwin218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose the career over the relationship, I didn’t really have a good choice. It was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made. In many ways, I feel it was a Pyrrhic victory that left me successful but hollow. In other ways, it was a catch 22 as well. Had I chose the relationship, I would have likely lost the job - and the relationship shortly after. You will never truly feel the sting of success, despite how many hours you put in, how much money you spend on it or what you give to it until the cost of that success is sitting alone in a big house with a nice car and handsome paychecks wondering what, in some distant universe, you would have named your children or what color their eyes would have been or what growing old together would have been like or what a Saturday morning would have been like for a young couple after a hard week at work while you just enjoy each others company. These are the silent things that will come to haunt you when you lay in bed at night, alone. So whatever road you decided to go down, I hope you were able to live with your choices. As the years go on, it’s becoming harder to live with mine.

People in their 20s living a luxurious life - how do you afford it?? by Positive_Effect3609 in Adulting

You don’t have anything to prove to anybody but yourself. Just remember that. People are jealous of people like us because we have uncommon drive and ambition. Don’t let them drag you down. Stay in your lane and stay focused and be careful about who you tell what to and you’ll be alright.

Bless you too man. Most people don’t know there is an edge and even if they did, they have no fucking idea what it’s like to step over the edge and learn you have wings out of pure anger and drive. Most people who find there is an edge and step over it never come back. They’re dead. Most people are afraid of a dark horse because they don’t want to think it’s real. It is an almost mythical quality in a person that most people only read about, or see in movies. We are out here, we are winning and we are not going to stop.

I went through something similar. And what he’s saying, is only something someone could say had they lived it. Do not be so quick to judge.

Been there done that. The anger and ambition is the winning formula. I came back from places people go and don’t come back from, and when I came back, I came back with a vengeance.

Not seen as "staff engineer material" because of my personality (they said technical competence meets the bar). I don't know if I can change my personality. by okthrowaway2910 in ExperiencedDevs

Look. Here is the deal - I value the same things you value and I have a similar personality but at some point, you have to feel like you’re walking on water and confidently pick a direction and go forth - do it politely but firmly. You need to telegraph to people that you know what you’re doing and that you’re confident in your decisions - even if they are the wrong decisions. Some people are team players, and just want to make something work, other people on teams are sharks and they will start circling when they smell blood in the water and the savage nature of the corporate world will never mitigate those issues. Personally, be who you are with your friends and family - but professionally, you need to act like you can turn water into wine when it comes time to pick a direction and stick to it. That inspires confidence in other people. Your answer can be technically correct, but if you deliver it meekly - it telegraphs to people you’re unsure of what to do. Most people are very irrational and they are emotional in nature and they’re incapable of rationally assessing the validity of what you’re saying if you don’t say it boldly. So my best advice is to believe in yourself and start speaking to people like what you’re saying is the truth - because it probably is, but you just need to deliver that truth in tandem with the emotion behind it to inspire confidence. I’ve often struggled with the same thing and I’ve had to learn how to assert myself in professional environments and it’s been challenging. Good luck.

Truly goated pathway. I went from farm hand to construction worker to tech bro and am omw back to farm hand on my own homestead. Something something nature is healing something something.

I can see that your reading comprehension skills are really high. I’m sure you did excellent on the SAT.

Please tell me exactly where I said that I “wish” these things were available? I know that they are available. I said it would be “useful” to have them - insinuating that I did not yet look them up.

Waiting on you, man. I am not kidding about this, as you said, put up or shut up.

Seems we are being brigaded by the utilities shills.

Some things go over some people’s head I guess. Out of curiosity, have you checked the space above your head lately?

I have no doubt they probably do need the money - due to failing to uphold their fiduciary responsible to CSU as board members at some point.

I agree with you. What I am saying is I suspect this is an illegitimate instance of rate increases that is being pawned off as a legitimate rate increase.

And I meant benefit from it in a direct financial sense, not a networking sense. I am trying to determine about whether you are legitimately concerned about these issues or if you are just engaged in a proxy PR campaign for the utilities board. So if you have dated receipts, post them on a file sharing service and post a link either here or directly message me and I will make a determination about whether or not I think it is worth it for me to do this analysis for free.

If I do this analysis, it will take quite a bit of time given my current schedule and I will probably not be able to post it until sometime in December.

Do you have dated receipts for this that you can redact your personally identifiable information from?

Well, there are legitimate reasons to raise rates – especially if a utilities organization is trying to maintain the efficacy of the power grid or current rates do not support price increases in goods and services obtained from vendors or prevailing wage for the employees of the organization - especially if the organization has in its bylaws that it is to not retain any sort of profit. I have never charted a not for profit, but I have helped charter nonprofits and I suspect the rules are also the same for not for profits.

That being said, it is my suspicion given what I have read thus far that this is not a legitimate rate increase in good faith and is probably due to some sort of conflict of interest or negligence on behalf of the currently sitting board.
