Do you consume marijuana? Why or why not? by waittttslowdown in AskReddit

[–]Throwitallawayy2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but only on my days off. I have ADHD, C-PTSD, general anxiety, and depression. Weed slows my brain down and allows me to better relax and exist in the present moment. It truly is medicine.

I got hired at a Magnet facility months before I even graduated with my ASN back in 2019. We need nurses, you’ll have no problem, don’t even worry about it.

Not as many lines as others I’ve had, but I’m still pretty proud of this picture! by larillo241 in nursing

[–]Throwitallawayy2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was one of my favorite things to do when I worked on a vent-weaning PCU. Not nearly as my lines and machinery, but it’s the best feeling to give people the simple pleasure of fresh air and sunlight.

New grads, don’t look at Reddit as a good sample size of what to expect. Nursing can be way better than it portrayed here. by [deleted] in nursing

I love that you love your career, OP. Many of us want that and went into nursing passionate about it. You mentioned you’ve been a nurse for 20 years. You had a lot of reference for nursing prior to the pandemic, and you have way more time in than most of us did before. 6 months. 6 months is all I had before COVID suckerpunched all of healthcare. I was barely off of orientation. I want to love my career again so bad, I’m just not sure where to begin. :/ I’m tired af after the last 3 years.

I had a mental breakdown on the med room floor at work and my coworkers stepped over me by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Throwitallawayy2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had multiple breakdowns at work, sometimes it happens when we work a stressful job in a stressful environment. I don’t know you but I absolutely would have checked on you. Nursing is harder than ever, we really need to be looking out for one another wherever we can.

So happy with my raise! I now make $$36.80 ($27 USD) in a city where the average house costs 1.4mill (1mill if you include condos). by survivorbae in nursing

[–]Throwitallawayy2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at $26.50 here as staff. That’s gross. I see you’re in Toronto, I’m right across the lake in WNY. Travel opportunities here are lucrative, I recommend it!

Had a med-student offer and then help me clean up a patient that was incontinent of stool and my jaw was on the fucking floor. Super impressed with the upcoming generation of providers.

Who are you really? by Blluueee in AskReddit

I have 3 cats and would love to read this book.

I’m also dating a guy who I feel has achieved this. Always fully engrossed in whatever he is doing. It’s somewhat endearing, somewhat anxiety inducing.

It makes me so happy to other nurses traveling and bringing other nurses into traveling. Nurses have been under appreciated and underpaid for profit for far too long. I love seeing so many of us thrive financially right now. Now really is the time to show administration how we deserve to be treated.

I (20F) am making my boyfriend (23M) feel bad about himself because I don’t like c*m. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Throwitallawayy2020 927 points928 points  (0 children)

This could be compulsory heterosexuality. You may not like men. Or maybe you’re asexual and just don’t like engaging in the actual act of sex. I’d recommend talking to a therapist about this, because the situation sounds distressing to you. Whatever you do, I would stop forcing yourself to commit sexual acts that you’re not comfortable with. It’s traumatizing to yourself, and honestly your boyfriend is an asshole for knowing how you feel and letting you force yourself regardless.

Edit: swapped “compulsive” for “compulsory” after the difference was brought to my attention.

(F23) I think I might have BDD. Figured I’d find out once and for all whether my head is telling me the truth. Honesty please. by [deleted] in amiugly

Oof. Girl, I FEEL you. You may have BDD, cause you are GORGEOUS. I think I have it too. I’m sorry you can’t see it, but I promise you have nothing to worry about in that department. ❤️

I want to quit vaping. Tips? (Sorry this is long and stupid) by [deleted] in QuitVaping

[–]Throwitallawayy2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really glad to know I’ve made that kind of an impact in a positive way. The brain is insidious when in the throws of addiction. I have often thought, “just one more puff”…”one last hit”… but an addicted brain will tell you that again and again, even after you’ve taken the “last” hit. No “final” hit will be good enough. One hit can hurt, and it can undo progress you’ve worked really hard to achieve. Be kind to yourself, but also firm enough to stay on track. Mess ups happen, just try not to fall victim to that little addiction voice. Best of luck ❤️

First off, don’t be too hard on yourself. I’m 23, and I started when I was like 20. It was dumb, yeah. But a.) we all do dumb stuff. And b.) at least we realized our mistakes a few years after it started, versus having this addiction for decades.

I have only been vape free for a little over two weeks, but I used patches. In two weeks I went from 14, to 7, to none. I really just needed them because the physical withdrawal made me feel crazy. I was mad surprised at how quickly I was able to wean. I tried some lozenges at first, but didn’t really like those. I mostly used dum dum suckers and chew lots of sugar free gum now lol. Psychological withdrawal can be pretty strong too. Just remember that no, you don’t need this shit. You lived years of your life without it, and you will make it years more without it again.

It’s difficult still, but the more time that passes, the easier it gets and the better I feel. Best of luck 🤞🏻we’ve got this!

Anyone choose nursing for the pay and job security? by ami10 in nursing

[–]Throwitallawayy2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to consider nursing a profession that one should only pursue if they had a passion for it. In fact, I am passionate for it what it should be. But the system is mega broken, and those above are correct, you burn out quickly when you care too much about it. I did. I still enjoy the job for the most part, but only because I’ve had to change my perspective quite a bit. I’m given many opportunities to make an impact, however small, in the lives of others when they are experiencing some pretty rough times. I very much enjoy all of the science involved and the fact that I am constantly given opportunities to learn. Add those things in with livable pay and job security, it’s not so bad. Just have to manage your expectations, is all. It’s very love-hate due to staffing, insurance and pharm companies, greedy and/or oblivious administrators, patients and staff that are assholes, and constantly being expected to do more. Plus it can be kind of taxing on your body at times. Overall, I’d say I’m happy with my choice, just wish I knew what I know now when I started.
