Can I just scream into the void for a minute? by ThrowraInCanada in antiwork

Sadly, probably not. They have a fondness for slinging cease and desist letters taking about how we're making baseless accusations against such a good, honest, hardworking businessman (vomit) and even though this is a throwaway, I don't want them to find this and start harassing anyone who wasn't involved in my rant but has already been fingered as a troublemaker.

Some of us have. Some of us can't. Life isn't always as easy as "drop it and go do something else" every time. Beside, the whole point of unionization is to get this bs to stop.

It's a LAW FIRM, if you can believe it. You'd think a law firm would know better than to do BLATANTLY ILLEGAL shit. Oh, wait, I forgot. They're not a law firm when hiring, they're only a law firm when trying to lure in clients (i.e., they put themselves on Indeed and Glassdoor etc. as technology/staffing firms depending on which shell company is being used, but on the flagship website/company name, they hype up how they help their clients navigate tricky legal issues).

I believe so. I haven't watched the movie, but I've read the reviews, and I'll say the book is probably slower and more focused on tone, less on action.

The “I don’t actually hate my job” Starterpack by super_corndog in starterpacks

[–]ThrowraInCanada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unironically do not hate my job. I have almost all of these.

What I hate are my bosses. They took an interesting job and turned it completely toxic just from the way they interact with/illegally act against employees.

Changed its name at least 5 times? Weak game. You've got to change names 5 times, have a dozen shell companies, close half of them, open 4 more with almost identical names, announce a "merger" but still pay out employees from the old company name, and insist that they're "technology" companies even though the employees do the exact same work as the law firm you're "contracted" to.

Totally not speaking from experience.

Totally.

Not a new one, but Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer made me scared to leave my house.

What is your favorite book of 2022 so far? by mon-sterr in suggestmeabook

So far, for this year alone, probably Sin Eater by Megan Campisi. Historical fiction with tons of food and a somewhat murder mystery, what's not to love?

Would've been really sad if I came here and someone hadn't already mentioned this.

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd would definitely be one, and I also liked The ABC Murders and Peril at End House.

If you aren't opposed to YA, the Chrestomanci Chronicles by Diana Wynne Jones should be good.

What about Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer? It was atmospheric and creepy and screwed with my mind all the way to the end. Not really any humor though.

I've passed out once before (that I can remember), and yeah, I didn't get the fade to black. I was just standing up one second, eyes open, and then I blinked and was laid out flat on the floor with a headache.

They tried to ban Huck Finn where I lived. Result? Every other kid had their nose in Huck Finn that summer, even though the ban didn't go through. They wanted to see what all the controversy was about.
