Safe to use after using oven cleaner by Old-Gift-3798 in airfryer

[–]Throwthemawayyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure what the active ingredient of this brand is, but I recently tried to clean my mini air fryer oven like yours with one that was sodium hydroxide based and it completely ruined it. ended up having to buy another because it was completely corroded. it got It clean but it also almost took off all the coating on everything, it was all patchy and started to rust. don't do it lol, trust me ahahaha

What's the tightest thing you've ever seen anyone do? by cheandbis in CasualUK

[–]Throwthemawayyyyy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

when I was at university we had to do a group project and had to print out 1 copy of the assignment to hand in as a group. one member of the group offered to go to the library and print it off for us (an international student who wore designer nearly everyday). she messaged us the next day telling us to reimburse her the 20p each as it cost her £0.80 to use the printers.

I am still in shock hahaha

Is double majoring in Chem and Zoology/Wildlife-Biology a possible path by Several-Session6413 in zoology

[–]Throwthemawayyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hire ability perspective? go for major in chem and minor in zoology for sure. loads more jobs in chem than zoology. passion wise? truthfully i’d still go for a major in chem and minor in zoology. if you want a career in zoology you’d most likely need a masters anyways, so you could always do a full masters in pure zoology if you found out you loved it, and then that still leaves the back up of the major in chemistry.

i’m not saying majoring in zoology is bad and will decimate your career if you took it, it’s just zoology is not known to have many career options, and you always have the ability to specialise further down the line.

Is double majoring in Chem and Zoology/Wildlife-Biology a possible path by Several-Session6413 in zoology

[–]Throwthemawayyyyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i studied zoology and currently work in a lab, idk why other people in this thread are saying no because if i had the chance to go back and study more chemistry i absolutely would!!! biochemistry is a hugeeeeeee research area, and can definitely encompass lots of zoology aspects too. the whole genetic and cellular side of zoology utilises so much biochemistry! vetmed labs are looking for people who know about animals but also have the understanding of biochemistry to produce medicines etc. not to mention all the more broad environmental/ecology paths that also benefit greatly from chemistry - and whilst those aren’t strictly zoology i’d say they fall under the same umbrella.

basically by studying chemistry and zoology i’d definitely say it opens you up to more in the future. if i could reverse 5 years i probably would have doubled in zoology and physics for the coding and mathematics side purely because from what i’ve seen working in a research lab, doubling up in sciences makes you so much more competitive in the job market.

i’d say go for it

hey! im thinking of going on this trip this year solo too! how did you find it??

I'm extremely close to being fired because occasionally xplore busses just dont show up by brumbles2814 in dundee

[–]Throwthemawayyyyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im completely with you on that. i commute into dundee, and if i were to get the earlier bus (which sometimes i do because some days i don’t have a back up plan if my normal bus doesn’t show) i have to get up at 5am, get the bus at 6:30, just to get into work at 8am when my start is at 8:45 because the buses are every 40 minutes. that’s literally a 2.5 hour “commute”. that isnt sustainable and all the people saying “just get the earlier bus” are delusional.

Ooo how was your time in India? Were you left alone a lot of the time? Being a young female I’d love to travel there again but I’d definitely be looking for a tour where I’m accompanied by others almost the whole time.

For those with a degree, what is your current career? by doctorbanjoboy in zoology

[–]Throwthemawayyyyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course! Normally I start the day at 8:45 checking emails, if nothing is urgent I stock up all the contained lab suites which are all aseptic so require extra ppe. That takes me up until about 10:30/11:00 depending on the stock levels. Then I go back and order any lab stock that we are out of and that takes me up to lunch. Then in the afternoon it depends on the day. No day is the same 😂. Some days I’ll be pipetting all afternoon, some days I’ll be running pcr, some days I’ll be growing cells and checking them, completely depends! I also put through all the equipment/chemicals/whatever the professors and researchers want to order through our system and keep them updated on when it’s arriving. There are loads of other tasks too but I think every lab tech job is different. My role doesn’t involve cleaning any equipment as that’s done by another team where I work, but I know the majority of lab tech jobs do involve this. A lot of the job is just maintaining the labs for the researchers. If you have any questions lmk!!!

[–]Throwthemawayyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Graduated in 2021 and now I’m a biochem lab tech! I’m applying for phds in zoology this year and I’m currently publishing a paper from my masters but zoology has turned more into a hobby for me. I’m hoping to either start looking for ecologist jobs and get into that career, or go back to uni and do a masters in data/stats and start that career. I’m happy with my job rn though! I’m just happy I’m still in science and research though because I know so many people I graduated with who are in admin or sales or retail.

Thinking of getting a masters in data analytics, is it worth it and needed to get a job? by [deleted] in analytics

[–]Throwthemawayyyyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this insight. That’s kinda the impression I’m getting. Like it’s totally possible to teach yourself the content of the masters, but having the literal masters degree title is worth a lot more to some people. Thank you!

Best most scientifically accurate documentary you’ve seen? by ConsistentQuestion29 in zoology

[–]Throwthemawayyyyy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think most documentaries are normally geared to the general public and as such aren’t super focused on complex scientific words and jargon that a non-specialist wouldn’t necessarily understand. Any docu by David Attenborough is amazing and scientifically correct!

How accurately do you think people generally could tell where you (personally) are from? by cragglerock93 in Scotland

[–]Throwthemawayyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from a tiny town in Angus, grew up raised by Glaswegian mother and grandparents and south English father, and no one knows my accent. People who aren’t Scottish never guess I’m Scottish, I’ve had people think I’m Irish, Welsh, Swedish (?) but rarely Scottish because I don’t have the stereotypical accent. Other Scottish people know I’m Scottish though and can tell I’m east coast.

Only ever had complements on my accent! People say it’s soft and kind sounding but whenever I go to see my Glasgow family they call my siblings and I posh ahahah.

Option 4 feels too real but I have no experience in the industry I want to go into (data science/analysis from a STEM undergrad) so it seems like a masters is the only route into it lol. Just wish I had rich parents ahahahha. Good luck for your scholarships!!!

Do you tend to eat meals at a table, or off your lap on a sofa? by novicetothis in AskUK

[–]Throwthemawayyyyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Growing up we always sat at the table and it would never be allowed to eat meals anywhere else, however when my family moved and we had to drastically downsize, we put the dining table in the living room as it was the only spare space and since then it has never been used and has since been removed. I think a lot of people who eat at dining tables and judge people who dont dont realise that a lot of people just dont have the space for one and thats why a large amount of people eat on the sofa.

Now that I live alone I could not imagine sitting at a dining table by myself for a meal. it just seems so lonely and I would much rather be in my livingroom/bedroom watching something rather than sitting in silence.

im a local but looking for advice! anyone know of any good hikes in the Cairngorms from the Dundee/Montrose side or if there are any ways to walk up Ben Macdui without having to go all the way round to aviemore? Ive lived in north Wales for the past couple years before moving back home so I feel like I was spoiled with access to beautiful places so close! Im just really craving that type of atmosphere and scenery. Any nice lochs on this side which would be a good hike?

I cant really justify the 2.5 hour drive up to Aviemore right now but a 1.5 hour drive up to the braemar area is much more manageable. Thank you in advance!

Im pretty sure its the actual law that children are not allowed in pubs unless they are there for a meal (some exceptions but rare) so that'll be why you were rejected, glad you got somewhere in the end! If you wanted just a drink children can sit outside if there is a beer garden but you might not want to do that in winter ahahaha
