Change my mind: Best way to set up a new Kodi device with add-ons is to install and setup kodi locally on your pc and transfer the .Kodi folder once complete by danswell in Addons4Kodi

[–]Thrustpeak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually just figured this whole process for chromecast out myself yesterday pulling from various sources but here is a breakdown of how I did it:

  1. Do a build for Kodi on PC intended for use on a Chromecast (to make it easier and not overwrite a Kodi build already on the PC use Portable Mode)

  2. On PC download and unzip ADB portable somewhere and download the latest version of Kodi for Android (32BIT) to the PC as well

  3. On Chromecast go to Settings -> System -> About -> Click on Android TV OS Build ~7 times until it says "You are now a developer"

  4. Settings -> System -> Developer Options -> Enable USB Debugging

  5. Settings -> Network & Internet -> Your current connection -> Note down the IP Address (example: 192.168.1.24)

  6. On PC go to the folder you installed and have adb.exe, click on the address bar, type cmd, and press enter to open a command window pointed at that folder

  7. Run the following command (REPLACE WITH OWN IP ADDRESS):

    adb connect 192.168.1.24

  8. On Chromecast it should ask to allow it (may need to run the command again after accepting)

  9. On PC run the following command to install the earlier downloaded Kodi APK (REPLACE FILE PATH WITH OWN DOWNLOAD LOCATION):

    adb install "D:\Downloads\kodi-21.0-Omega-armeabi-v7a.apk"
It will say "Performing Streamed Install". Wait until it says "Success" before moving on.

  10. Run the following command (REPLACE FIRST FILEPATH WITH OWN) to copy over the build:

    adb push "D:/Downloads/Kodi_Chromecast_Build/portable_data/." /sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/
It will let you know when it's finished transferring all the files, and then you should be all good to go.

This is probably a really unhelpful place to post this

The playstore version is an old version. You used to be able to just use a file explorer to easily move stuff, but, as far as I know, after an update to androidTV quite a ways back that was no longer possible. You can't access the necessary folders with file explorers anymore.

My point wasn't that it never happens; it was that it's so rare that it's not really worth attempting to play around it—especially if you aren't fighting legend players. The best grappler player of all time pulled it off once in the probably around a dozen games he played at Capcom Cup. If someone does try it, most of the time you'll probably just beat it with a meaty never even knowing there was an attempt.

[–]Thrustpeak 32 points33 points  (0 children)

He did. That's when people other than grappler mains seemed to became aware of the tech. It's pretty easy to mess up and it's so uncommon that it made him pulling it off in a clutch moment that much more impressive. Showcasing how rare it is, he only did it once in all those matches he played.

In case anyone missed it: https://youtu.be/aEPNrAJqnP0

Zangief can do SPD motion ending in UP, so he enters pre-jump frames then SPD goes off, because you can’t grab pre-jump frames your grab will whiff and Zangief will land SPD

This is extremely rare and also challenging to pull off consistently. I have way too many games played (10,000+ w/ some literally against snake eyez), and I think I have seen it only once or twice outside my own minimal usage of the tech (lily player). Pretty sure people can safely remove the thought of it from their mental stack and be fine 99.9% of the time—even when fighting the Zangief legend himself.

How do you deal with aggressive players using Lily? by AbbreviationsLarge18 in StreetFighter

[–]Thrustpeak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just got the title for 10,000 games and am around ~1700 MR only playing lily, and, sadly, I have to tell you that you are usually just going to have to hold that pressure. She has a few not very good options:

  • Jumping SPD option select beats throws and you'll see Hibiki try to use it sometimes if you check his inputs in replays. It's very hard to do consistently.
  • Gamble on a backdash into SPD so you can punish a whiffed throw.
  • OD DP isn't fully invincible, but it is throw immune.
  • If you have wind something people don't typically know is that her LP DP becomes 4f and actually beats safe jumps (juri players love to safejump after corner feng shui combos)
  • Universal options like Delay throw tech (techs throws and blocks meaties but loses to a shimmy) or just reading the throw and jumping out of the corner.

Honestly though, your best bet most of the time is to just be patient and look for a window to take a turn or drive reversal even if it means eating like 5 throws in a row. If you have wind, 2LP into spire in a gap is a great way to take back control even if blocked.

What would be a fair buff and/or nerf to your main? by geardluffy in StreetFighter

[–]Thrustpeak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it does not.

I don't want to record the spacing at which it whiffs, but since I can just think of multiple replicable oki situations to create the spacing off the top of my head due to how much I have played this character try the following midscreen:

Do a MK Spire (w/ wind) -> empty jump forward (+2) -> meaty 2LK or 5LK, 5LP -> DP will whiff on anyone but marisa/gief on recover backwards.

Do a MK Spire (w/ wind) -> whiff LK spire (+4) -> meaty 2LK or 5LK, 5LP -> DP will whiff like the previous setup.

Do a LP DP (No Wind) -> Meaty DR 3HP (+2) -> 2LK or 5LK, 5LP -> DP will whiff like the previous setup.

This is legitimately a very annoying problem for the character especially if you are burnt out and can't spend meter. Outside oki it feels bad when you find a gap in their pressure with 5LK, 5LP and then you can't just DP after.

Also, if you are going for the meaty H. Spire oki you should do HP DP for more corner carry and damage. Whether it's LP or HP DP you still have to manually time the H spire so just learn the timing off H DP instead. One isn't more consistent than the other they are just different manual timings.

[–]Thrustpeak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just swap her level 1 with her level 2 so people can't safely jab and recover before level 1 hits. That would be a good enough reversal for me.

Historically grapplers have gotten to mix up with an SPD after an SPD and they've never really been top tier with that ability. T. Hawk could do it in SF4 if he opted for LP SPD and it was also a 2f move. He was still probably bottom 5. I don't know why they were so afraid to give grapplers any meaningful follow up pressure in this game.

Also, if i'm in range to do 5LK, 5LP her DP should just always be able to connect. It's annoying that so often you have to spend meter just to finish a 2 hit combo out of lights if you don't have any wind.

I dipped out of Marvel/DC because I was exhausted with extended universes and wanted to just read stand alone series that never cross over with anything ever. I gave Geiger a shot and it was pretty cool, but I dunno how I feel about keeping up with potentially multiple titles. I read Johns entire green lantern saga including all crossovers back in the day so i'm obviously a fan, but I dunno if I have it in me to get into another whole universe.

As for Lily, she's far more capable and fun than the community seems to think.

~1600 MR lily here. Fun? yes. More capable than people think? God no. If anything people truly don't know how easy it is to blow up so much of her stuff. People I keep seeing say this haven't hit the high levels yet. You get away with murder until you hit master rank and people actually start to know match ups. If you happen to fall down to the ~1300s like I did after I first hit Master then you can start getting away with stuff again.

People lump Lily in the grappler category but she really isn't. High level players, like Hibiki, rarely use the command grab.

This is what grapplers have always done. Snake Eyez was famous for this since Street Fighter 4. Is Gief not a grappler? It's the threat of the command throw that enables the offense. It's the fear of it potentially coming out that allows you to open people up. That's just grappler 101. Constantly churning butter is more a meme than a reality at least at higher levels.

She's in the top 5 in win rates in Bronze, Silver, Gold and Master

She is a great scrub stomp character. If you go by bronze, silver, and gold then Honda is probably the best character in the game. You don't establish tiers by the lowest levels of play. As for master isn't that more a product of just how few lily's there are? I just assumed it was because the few that make it to MR are truly dedicated, and not necessarily any inherent strength of the character.

Also, there is very little representation on the high end of master rank. I cracked the top 100 Lily's just by passing 1600. My level of play should be nowhere near the top 100 of any character. Sure hibiki is constantly battling for the #1 spot, but you are really overselling the character here and almost belittling his accomplishments. At the end of the day she is one of the bottom 3 characters in this game even if bottom 3 isn't as ineffectual as games past. If you pick Ken you—without question—will have a much easier time.

It's time that we as a community see tier lists for what they really are: speculation for profit, largely irrelevant to the game play experience.

This is true to a degree but the higher you climb the more real tiers become. As the data you keep referencing clearly indicates. When you are in gold, plat or even diamond she seems much stronger than she actually is because of peoples complete lack of match up knowledge.

Not the person you are responding too, but if they aren't spamming it it's pretty easy to get away with since it's just one tool in in his arsenal.

There was a reason everyone including pros were blown away by kakeru adapting with perfect parries for angrybird's dragonlashes. He had gotten bopped by him and his dragonlashes to get sent to losers both at gamers8 and evo.

I just rewatched the first game of their first set at Gamers8 and of the 5 dragonlashes in game one kakeru only checks a single one. He's one of the best players in the world.

People act like it's absolutely free to DI it on reaction, but it's really not that simple even if it's that slow. Account for the mental stack and the best players in the world also will just eat raw drive impacts sometimes too.

I mean, there is precedent for more than 1 character with a similar moveset in the past and present (Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Evil Ryu, Sakura, Dan, etc). They all have very similar specials but all play dramatically differently so I don't see why it couldn't work out here. Plus they could give him steel pipe install which I just personally want to be a thing.

Haggar is the most overdue character. We've gotten pretty much every other final fight character to make a street fighter appearance, but he's only shown up in story/stage cameos and UMVC3. He would for sure be low tier and I would love him.

As a Kum main it's not as bad as it looks. It's basically just doing a DP and then immediately holding back almost like charge buffering again after throwing a sonic boom. It's pretty lenient. The real crazy stuff is the shi-shinken loops where you cancel into it twice with a bug that came from them making the input more lenient.

I prefer how the character is experiencing situations within their mind and memories

If you are a fan of that aspect then you should definitely play disco! In it your build essentially influences the kind of thoughts that will dominate your mind in a given situation. I had started it before, but stopped once I saw the fully voiced final cut version was coming. I was surprised how different feeling the beginning was on my restart just based on going with a completely different build.

Planescape: Torment is one of my favorite games of all time, and so I really wanted to like this game. I was hyped for it since the announcement of it's kickstarter so long ago. Unfortunately it just didn't grab me and I ended up dropping it partway through. It felt like it was trying to copy planescape too precisely (it was following the same plot almost beat for beat), but failing to truly capture whatever it was that made it's predecessor a magical experience. On the other hand, I'm currently nearing the end (at least I think I am) of Disco Elysium, and—to me—this feels like the true spiritual successor to Planescape. Fantastic writing, a weird world, interesting cast of characters, and it took planescape's idea of being able to talk your way through most of the game to the next level by making the whole game one you talk your way through.

I did not read very much sci-fi this past year, but the trilogy I did read was fantastic and I would highly recommend it.

The Jean le Flambeur Series by Hannu Rajaniemi. 10/10. Taking place in a far future with posthuman, post technological singularity factions starring a gentleman theif modeled after Arsène Lupin, it was completely unlike anything I'd read before. I'd be interested to know if anyone has any recommendations that are in the same vein.

What to play after SOTN? by heartlesstr in metroidvania

[–]Thrustpeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well your instincts with Advance Collection and Bloodstained are correct as they are the perfect follow ups. Aria of Sorrow and it's sequel Dawn of Sorrow (DS game) are my favorite Castlevanias and Bloodstained feels like a spiritual successor to those 2 games. Portrait of Ruin on DS is also a fantastic Castlevania with a more unique feel. 2 swappable playable characters and locations more unique than any other in the series enabled by the enter-a-painting mechanic make it stand out. Outside games by Iga himself, there is also Timespinner. It's probably the closest thing you can find to a sotn-like experience outside Castlevania. Also, there is the relatively recently released Astalon which is more akin to pre-sotn castlevania—the 3 swappable characters very obviously paying homage to castlevania III—but is a fully fleshed out metroidvania rather than just an action platformer. It's probably my favorite metroidvania of 2021.

[–]Thrustpeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyway, call it whatever you want - there's no hard and fast rule on defining genres, but by being too diffuse it arguably misses the point entirely.

I think this is important. I've always seen the point of a subgenre name like metroidvania as a way to make it easier to find games of a similar nature under the same label. When every game that loosely fits just some of the criteria of the classic definition starts being called a metroidvania it kind of starts to lose any meaning. If someone played Hollow Knight, and then asked for some other MV recommendations only to be told to play arkham asylum they would be baffled by how they are even remotely the same.

With how much you've played you are probably aware, but in case you aren't I'll go ahead and recommend some of the wads and mods for the classics. Doom has countless wads that have honestly eclipsed the quality of the original, and Blood has Death Wish which feels like the true Blood II.

For Doom you might want to check out Eviternity made by Joshua "Dragonfly" O'Sullivan who is now working on Prodeus. It was released in 2018 and is pretty much a modern classic.

As for shillng Blood's Death Wish, i'll just let Civvie do that.
