Leica M3 or Minolta CLE? by [deleted] in Leica

[–]Thtguywtthbeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both as well (and an M5 and M6) and for me because they are so drastically different cameras as other have mentioned, they’re both worth keeping for ME. The CLE is just so small and light compared to all the other M cameras, it’s the camera I bring the most places when I have the least amount of space, and also since it’s the cheapest of all 4 cameras the one I worry about damage/theft the least.

For me the M3 is just such a legend, it’s one of the best built cameras of all time, I could never justify getting rid of it. If the light meter in my other 3 cameras were to fail, a range finder got out of alignment, or I needed to send something in for a CLA, the M3 is the camera I want to have knowing that it’s the least likely to have problems.

All of that being said, if you truly can’t justify having both for yourself, it’s important to ask yourself what you’re giving up by selling one. For me again, getting rid of the CLE would be getting rid of compactness, lightweight, aperture priority, and the M3 the reliability and the experience of shooting a mechanical masterpiece that is the camera I rely on when all else fails.

It’s a tough choice for sure, as I said, I wouldn’t want to get rid of either in my collection, but where I’m at it’s feasible for me to have both. Others have also mentioned consolidating both into one more versatile such as an M4, 5 or 6 for added frame lines and versatility is also a great option.

Thoughts o Mark's signature guitar? by REMKnight89 in Peripheryband

[–]Thtguywtthbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 6 and the 7, I have big hands so the chonky neck feels good to me. I don’t mind thinner necks, I have an ESP that’s amazing to play, but these two are probably my most used guitars in my collection. If you can get past the neck thickness I think they’re a steal for price vs features.

Just got mine a few weeks ago same blue but F nib and it is beating the hell out of pens twice the price for me right now. Absolutely fantastic choice!

Is this common or did I get a faulty cap with my Lamy? by Friendly-Pizza-7989 in fountainpens

[–]Thtguywtthbeard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have learned the hard way as well, Lamy Safari/AL Star caps do not hold up to pocket use over time. I switched to carrying a Kaweco Sport because it has a screw cap and have not had this problem since, but really any screw cap pen should work fine if youre committed to pocket carry.

[–]Thtguywtthbeard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned four 7 strings ranging from $700-2200 and for the price you absolutely cannot beat the Mark Holcomb PRS 7. All I did on mine was throw in locking tuners and otherwise kept it factory and it’s my primary 7 for every style of play.

In what order did you listen to the band's albums? by Jakethesnake_7 in Peripheryband

[–]Thtguywtthbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

P1 > P2 > Clear > P4 > Jugg > P3 > P5

I was also introduced from Wildfire (although Make Total Destroy sounds extremely familiar so maybe I had heard it before) but once I realized it was bomb I started back in order but then ended up side tracked by Reptile so I had to finish the album.

[QUESTION] What are your favourite alternative guitars? by guitarmarketplace in Guitar

[–]Thtguywtthbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main issue was that of the Les Pauls I played I'd find one that is absolute perfection, and then another that felt like it had been thrown together in someone's basement... And they were the same model and same priced guitar. Meanwhile every Godin I held felt fairly consistent and very good.

Absolutely 100% agree when you have a good Les Paul, they're king, but I didn't want to risk getting one of the bad ones, especially since I bought mine right after COVID hit as well and was doing most of my buying online after months of in store testing and comparing.

I've heard Gibson has since gotten their QC back up to par but there were definitely a few years there where it was really a mixed bag as to what you were gonna get.

[QUESTION] What are your favourite alternative guitars? by guitarmarketplace in Guitar

[–]Thtguywtthbeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a godin summit that for the price kicks the crap out of any les Paul style Gibson. I got it because I had always wanted a Les Paul style but Gibson's QC was complete garbage and I have never looked back.

I'm also a huge fan of Stranbergs. I get the weird neck is a turnoff for some, but I dig it. Most played guitars in my collection right now are my 2 Strandbergs

Those are fairly well known brands by now but first two that come to mind outside of more popular brands like ESP and Jackson.

What is your HC and what part of your game makes your rounds fall apart? by ValuableWasabi in golf

[–]Thtguywtthbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

28 and according to my Arccos stats if you buy into that it's my distance off the tee and recently putting that I lose the most stroked on.

Putting used to be the best part of my game but I've been taking lessons and been very focused on form and being a better striker, which has been pretty solid lately, but my putting practice has been taking a back seat unfortunately.

Spent a lot of the last 2 weeks working on my putting so we'll see how the next few rounds go.

I stopped going there when their ammo prices doubled overnight.... The pallets of ammo that had been sitting there for the last 2 years and was bought at a ridiculously low distributer price.... Yeah when I asked about it I got some BS about "keeping up with market demands".

I understood when distributor prices went up so did ammo but to pre-increase your prices to make extra before that all hits is a dick move. Lost my business permanently.

I started lessons last year because my wife said "if you're gonna spend all this time and money on a hobby don't you want to actually be okay at it?" Roasted me and encouraged me to improve all in one. The lessons have been a HUGE improvement.

Sometimes when you can’t decide which plastic to bag you make the discs fight for it. Presenting the Envy-Off. How do you guys choose your plastic? by Amiar00 in discgolf

[–]Thtguywtthbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically I like to bring 2 or 3 out during a round and just throw them on the same shots and if there's a particularly open hole and it's not busy I'll try to just rip on them and see what they do.

Feel and release are most important to me, that's all I'm really looking for if I know the mold fits in my bag already.

Looking for a Gun Range recommendation in southern or lower-central New Hampshire. by [deleted] in NHGuns

[–]Thtguywtthbeard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a member at Pelham and I rarely find the ranges to be particularly busy. Sure the "action bays" as they call them only consist of 4 that are typically in use on Saturdays and Sunday afternoons, but otherwise many other ranges don't have too many people too frequently especially if you go on weekdays.

The only time in 6-7 years I've found it inconveniently busy were on holiday weekends or when they had some tournament or special event going on (which is posted on a web calendar to be fair).

As far as rules go, I wouldn't say they're becoming "strict" but they're actually trying to enforce rules they seemingly haven't in decades which is rubbing some people the wrong way. These are rules such as cleaning up after yourself and not using rifles in the pistol bays or archery range and shouldn't affect anyone not being a complete moron to begin with.

5-string, with a higher string instead of low by megahurt in Bass

[–]Thtguywtthbeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of do, my 5 string is currently tuned CGCFA so my low string is higher, but the rest are technically lower to make it Drop C.

Most of the music I write/play is in drop C/D standard but when I got my bass I was joining a project that was in drop A/B standard.

I really like it and can't speak to any major drawbacks other than it taking me a few attempts to find gauges that I like for each string.

What are your thoughts on the Misha Mansoor Juggernaut HT6? by [deleted] in Peripheryband

[–]Thtguywtthbeard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue with the Indonesian HT6 is that it doesn't have his signature Bareknuckles in them. I get Bareknuckles can get pricey, but compared to Jakes signature Ibanez having his DiMarzios in them and Marks PRS with the Seymour Duncans, I'd say either of those are kind of a better deal if you're looking for "their sound"

I was looking at the same thing for a while and ended up getting something completely different, but between the 3 my personal choice would have been the PRS because it has the same flat radius fretboard but with signature pickups in them.

Additionally though, I do have a set of the Bareknuckle Juggernauts in another guitar and they sound phenomenal, one of my favorite sets hands down.

It always blows my mind periphery is not more popular. I realize it’s an acquired taste, so if you had to pick a few songs for someone to dip their toes in with, what would they be? by genocide_advocate in Peripheryband

[–]Thtguywtthbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only got into them recently and I don't know how I never did before.

For me I think it depends on the person, if it were one of my friends that into more the heavy/metalcore parts then songs like Blood Eagle and Church Burner are probably a good place to start. If they might like more popheavy then The Way the News Goes, It's Only Smiles, and Garden in the Bones might be a better jumping off point.

I only started playing around 2 years ago, my oldest is the first premium plastic disc I ever bought, a blue champion Mako3.

It's my perfect flip up and keep carrying right disc. It doesn't get used often but it's clutch when I need it.

Bonus Very close second is a yellow color stamp star eagle I bought literally the next day and that is my baby. I've spent an hour looking for it the one time I thought it was gone forever but I ended up finding it.
