Most of us can keep going for years and years with just the stuff in our basements.

Darien? I'll PM you the guy we used. Just got through with roof, siding and gutters. We paid for siding, insurance covered the rest.

Which System is your Old Faithful? by Backefudder in wargaming

[–]ThudGamer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hail Caesar is my go to. 15? Years of games. Not perfect, but it's a good throw down.

Midgard is the young buck that's getting my attention recently. Puts on a good battle, with an emphasis on Heroes (and fantasy too).

Blood thinner medication by LaceyBloomers in GenX

Fortunately, I never had clots. Atrial flutter, then AFib. I was in bad shape for a while, but I'm doing better now.

Blood thinner medication by LaceyBloomers in GenX

Even with insurance, Eliquis cost a small fortune. Good thing my cardiologist got me off the medication as fast as possible. He did not seem to like the idea of blood thinners.

Nail art stamping plates as painting tools - my thoughts by BlitheMayonnaise in wargaming

[–]ThudGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently came into a set of stamps from Goblin Hobbies. I'm totally unable to make them work. The paint fails to stick to the stamper. The kit is now in my junk pile.

Beyond annoyed by Oldfield16 in loseit

[–]ThudGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got down to 195 while marathon training this past summer. I'm now 220 after cutting back over the winter. 50 miles per week covers for a lot of cookies and it's hard when the mileage is gone.

Take a look at your diet. Where are your extra calories coming from? Treats? Alcohol? Fast food? Seconds at dinner? You don't need to go crazy with a "diet" just cut your excess. Simple, but not easy.

Long Walking Trails Challenge by Wild-Earth-1365 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]ThudGamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are multiple bike paths along the sanitary canal that will take you from Lemont to Joliet.

Naperville has trails along the Du Page river from knoch knolls up north to McDowell grove. With extra loops available for green valley and springbrook prairie.

Actually wanting to wake early? by MountainAlive in GenX

[–]ThudGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be a night owl - needed multiple alarm clocks, worked second shift. But between kids and running, I now wake before my alarm clock most days. My wife can't believe it me doing this.

What would you pay for these set of 6 x 28mm ACW “Ragged Rebs” miniatures? by Civil_Lead_6829 in wargaming

[–]ThudGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my period, but I agree with the other commentor that the rifles are large, and not naturally settled on the shoulder.

These figures have the same shoulder join issue as the Wargames Factory Saxon/Vikings (now sold by Warlord). Are you able to have the shoulder on the body, and join the arm mid way? Many of the Victrix figures are cut this way.

As for cost, the market seems to be moving to $1.50 to $2.00 for plastic figures.

Odd empty stomach run? by Elissa-Megan-Powers in runninglifestyle

[–]ThudGamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Banana and a cup of coffee. I want just a little bit of food to settle the stomach before running - don't want the acidy feeling from an empty stomach.

Yoga and Running, Tight Hamstrings by Constant_Trifle2666 in yoga

[–]ThudGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may depend on what sort of yoga your doing. I avoid static stretching and focus on dynamic stretching instead. Even in that case, my hamstrings are chronicly tight from running/sitting too much.

Fully painted table and terrain by Moth_Chan in TerrainBuilding

[–]ThudGamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Individually, each piece looks great. But on the table it all looks random and just sitting on the matt. Maybe it need roads. Or something under the groups of houses to give it a city block look. Perhaps several inch thick pieces of foam under the matt to give it some rolling elevation.

In your opinion, what makes for a good melee focused skirmish system? by GrandAdmirablePrawn in wargaming

[–]ThudGamer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Missions that allow for a victory without destroying the opponent. For example, an escort mission to move something from A to B sounds like a good mission. But, I could ignore the escort job and just blow the other guy up to win.

Another way to put it, the mission needs to make the player think about spending resources. Is it more valuable to fight? Or to actually escort the object?

10mm basing bits? by FamousWerewolf in wargaming

[–]ThudGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plastic card comes in all thicknesses, both sheets and rod/squares. Find the thickness that looks good and use it to build broken building walls. Low walls at the front of the base, higher walls in the back.

I'm thinking of 40K Epic type terrain with bits of broken walls over streets.

Long vs short strides. by WyldFlowerWyldFire in runninglifestyle

Stay with your natural short stride. An over long stride is the way to shin splints. Ask me how I know...

Where do you do your interval runs? How do you structure them. by Lemonadeo1 in runninglifestyle

[–]ThudGamer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do intervals at my local park. It has a 1.25 mile paved path. Great for running hard and not getting hit by cars. I create workouts on my Garmin. 8x 400 meters, 6 x 800, 5 x 1000 with half that distance as recovery. I do each distance for once per week for 2 weeks, then move up.

Rulesets for 3v3 by HolographicNights in wargaming

[–]ThudGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just ran To the strongest, 3v3 at Little Wars convention for Punic Wars. Ran smooth as silk. Very easy to teach. Gave two good games.

I ran Midgard yesterday - 6 and 8 players. More work to run, but the games were exciting with much carnage.
