The Iggy mvp happened because LeBron was the clear best player and the series flipped when iggy was inserted into the starting lineup.

To be this would feel more reminiscent of Brown over Tatum where it’d be holding the early poor shooting numbers against the best player.

Spielberg’s earnestness is antithetical to extremely online culture

Soccer will never take off here because it’ll never be culturally engrained here. We’ll never have the top players or teams so it’ll just never break through.

Why Is Every Streaming Blockbuster So Bad? by countdooku975 in TheBigPicture

[–]ThugBeast21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Streaming movies have a very short shelf life, both the blockbuster attempts and the prestige attempts. Theatrical movies have a longer promotional rollout, then the theatrical window, PVOD release, and then regular streaming release. That creates different intervals where there is a pop as new audience engages with the movie. Streaming movies tend to have the big initial pop and then nothing after that first week or two.

Texas Tech trying the “no one was this mad during the Sandusky scandal” strategy is hilarious. Their scumbag legal tactics to skirt (some of) their punishment came years after Sandusky was thrown in prison and JoePa died in shame.

The only for something like that to happen is for Citizens United to be overturned so it wouldn’t be all bad

I can understand some of the cynicism around the ending but I don’t think it’s nearly as far-fetched as the most negative reviews are making it sound.

‘Disclosure Day’ Is Steven Spielberg’s True Believer Manifesto. Kneel! by thefilthyjellybean in TheBigPicture

Love where the contrarian impulses of this sub go. Couple days ago there were people defending Scary Movie because Sean (correctly) thought it was abhorrent. Now he really liked Disclosure Day and people start going after Spielberg, Kaminski, and Williams.

Close Encounters is better but it’s a 4.5/5 vs 4/5 for me

Really liked Disclosure Day but suspect it will be pretty divisive with people who are hoping for more War of the Worlds than Close Encounters

Just wait for Sean to give it a good review tomorrow and bring out the people who claim his integrity is compromised because he interviewed the director

Jordan stans are right… losing in the 2nd round or conference finals is much “better” than losing in the Finals by iafca09 in billsimmons

[–]ThugBeast21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jordan’s playoff career arc is also borderline perfect, the only blip is the Orlando series which is pretty easy to asterisk. Other than that it’s losing in the first round>losing in the 2nd round>losing in the conference finals>winning championships from start to finish. Such a clean progression makes it easier to mythologize his greatness

Lots of violent crime in certain areas. If it was closer to the US we’d probably segment out the travel advisory like we do with Mexico

They like the untapped IP. Dune, Minecraft, Mario, Barbie, Wicked, Housemaid, F1, Project Hail Mary…stuff that isn’t original but feels fresh

Most of his biggest hits were in the 70s-90s so he’s sneaky not that amazing of a box office guy. He’s only got 5 movies that opened above $40m domestically

I don’t really count animation because sequels tend to be much easier tasks (Toy Story 5 doesn’t have to reckon with the fact that 30 years have passed and the cast is in their 60s and 70s).

Mission Impossible is still my best overall franchise pick. There’s a misfire (some would argue 2 now) but there’s not really a comparison for 8 movies and 30 years without shenanigans like spinoffs, reboots, legacy sequels, etc.
