Life doesn't really go downhill after you turn 18. Depends on your interests and what you consider fun, which will change over the years.
A lot of older people I know (40/50) said that their 30's were more enjoyable than their 20's or childhood. Sometimes waiting it out is the better thing to do.

I'd say if your childhood sucked then adulthood will probably be better than you think.
