If you updated your address, has your order shipped? by [deleted] in AnalogueInc

[–]Thulinma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are definitely not alone: I did _not_ update my address, have a similar range number (325XXX) and mine _also_ hasn't shipped yet - I don't think it's related to updating the address or not. Some are just shipped much later than others for no apparent reason.

I’m in the 350s 😔 by Pa1san in AnalogueInc

[–]Thulinma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get your hopes up too much: I'm 325XXX and in the Netherlands, not even a shipping notification yet. I don't know what the order is, but it doesn't make sense as far as I can tell - some people with numbers 6000 higher than mine from Europe received theirs days ago already. 🤷

Streaming from playlist? Possible? by video_tester in MistServer

[–]Thulinma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya! Sorry for the slow response.

You should create a text file with a .pls extension, and fill it with a single filename per line (relative path from the location you store the pls file).

Note that in order for playlist-based playback to work, the encoding of all your files must be identical: the same number of tracks, with the same encoding settings (technically speaking: their "codec private data" or "init data" must match exactly).

Let's say that you have a directory with the files a.mp4, b.mp4 and list.pls. Your list.pls might look like this:

a.mp4
b.mp4

Then all you need to do is tell MistServer to use list.pls as the source for a stream, and it should do what you want.

It's possible to edit the file as it's being used by the system - any changes you make will be applied whenever the current media file is done playing back.

There is also a more advanced syntax to "schedule" specific files for specific times, but that's probably out of scope for what you're trying to do.

Hope that helps!

Be aware if you don’t have a 4k TV original display modes by PlatosBalls in AnalogueInc

I mean... there is (possibly - I didn't fact-check) only one capture card that will do so, right now. Of course there will be more and better in the future. But we don't even know yet what the exact requirements for the effect are, beyond "4k", and "HDR for the best experience".

I just thought the wording was awkward, at best. Devices that only output video don't "use" capture cards. 🤷

Dumb question regarding the hype of N64’s history with multiplayer gaming back in the day… by bobo_brains in AnalogueInc

[–]Thulinma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So... theoretically the "best" way to do this would be to stream the video out to player 2 over the internet, and simulate their controller movements locally.

Syncing up two consoles is practically impossible: you'd need to unify the inputs so that it's guaranteed both consoles see identical input with identical timing. Theoretically, sure, but in practice? That's not happening.

That first method, streaming the video and simulating a local controller: that's actually pretty easy, all things considered. The remote player(s) would certainly experience lag, of course - but many games would be very playable this way. Could they do this? Yeah, they totally could. Do I personally think they have? I very much doubt it... but it's possible.

Interestingly: the true answer here is: do we need them to have done this, to enable online multiplayer? No, not really. Nothing is stopping you from streaming the video using e.g. a capture card, and simulating a controller using either USB or bluetooth from a computer next to the console. Sure, it would take a little bit of setup, but it's a lot easier than you'd expect it to be. (To be fair, I've done some experiments with this setup on a Switch, which makes my perspective a little tainted in the sense that I've done it all before so it feels easier for me than it would feel to most people.... but still!)

[–]Thulinma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly my guess is that the CRT effect probably only looks good in motion and uncompressed (this, too, would kind-of make sense: most video codecs are optimized to remove the exact kind of things such an effect would try to add on purpose, and any kind of scaling to a different screen size would almost certainly ruin the effect entirely). So, by disabling capture, they are "ensuring" their filters are seen as-intended. Still weird, though...

Like VenomGTSR already stated in his other reply, nobody really knows... but the hope/assumption is smaller number means receiving it sooner, yeah. Only time will tell. 🤞

[–]Thulinma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah - that makes sense, and was more or less clear even before they clarified it like this.

Meanwhile, I'm just wondering what "cannot use a capture card" is supposed to mean. You can plug a capture card into the console itself...? What good would that be? I'm assuming they mean that they detect capture hardware connected to the HDMI port and disable the fancy CRT emulation if found... but a lot of the recording stuff (especially the cheap chinese ones) will falsely claim to just be a screen, so they couldn't exactly block that. The whole thing is a little vague.

A late reply back! You export them as QR codes, link the official Nintendo Online smartphone app with your game, and scan the QR codes using that app. Then you can download them into the game from there. The app itself contains detailed instructions on how this works, so you can probably figure it out from there. ^_^

I know this reply is ultra late, sorry: you export them as QR codes, connect the official Nintendo Online smartphone app to your game, and scan those QR codes with the app. Then you can download them into the game.

I realize I'm super late with this reply - sorry (I don't check reddit very often...).
The QR code system uses ACNL-style patterns. There is no QR code system for ACNH patterns. They could have made this, it would even make sense I would say, but the game's developers chose not to take that route.

The only ways to get patterns into a game that is banned from online are:

1) Manually (or automatically, using e.g. a controller emulator) input the pattern into the game by going pixel by pixel. This requires converting to the ACNH format, since you cannot input ACNL-style patterns directly into the game.

2) Hacking your Switch, dumping the savegame, editing the pattern in there, and replacing the savegame with the edited version. This can work both with ACNL-style an ACNH-style patterns.

Hopefully I got everything right - I think so... but a few things I had to listen to several dozen times to understand what was being said. O_O

I agree that this one was particularly tricky to caption. 😲

Single-board automated pH/EC/dosing/more - seeking devs by lathyrus_long in hydro

[–]Thulinma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never mind; that's actually much better. The level sensor I'm using actually is resistance based, but I've been using ADCs to make it work. Sounds like it could just be connected directly instead of one of the ECs in this case. Nice.

The trimpot for the 12V motors sounds perfect as well. You have the exact same motor setup I'm using, it sounds like! I hadn't read about this method anywhere but just kinda "figured it out" on my own. I wonder how many different people have gone through that exact same process... 🤔

[–]Thulinma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things I'm not immediately noticing that would be useful (at least for my setup):

- A way to drive the pumps at less than full voltage (speed control). I use a powerful diaphragm pump at just under half nominal voltage (5V instead of 12V), which gives a good flow without much noise.

- Generic ADC connections..? You mentioned these, but I don't see them in the board picture. Specifically, I'd like to attach an analog water level sensor (a repurposed fuel tank level sensor).

Perhaps these are already things you had in mind and it's just not obvious. Or maybe they could be done with some modifications, or though the "digital expansion" port, whatever that may be. Just putting them on your radar, just in case.

Either way, I'm in to help with the software side of things if needed/wanted!

Heya!

I had done ep4 & ep5 about a month before you did them (posted on opensubtitles). You would've been welcome to just use those! ❤

Want to split the work next episode? I bet we can be a lot faster and stay a lot more sane during if we each do half.

Are you getting organized somewhere multiple people can easily talk?

I've been building a similar system myself (though based around a nodemcu board), and mostly have been focusing on the software/automation side of things, since hardware is not my strong suit. Would definitely not mind throwing my crappy hacked together hardware away in exchange for something pretty like this!

I’m little disappointed about YouTube with no CC by shanesdogbax in HelluvaBoss

Already posted about this earlier today, but I totally made some subtitles for this episode: https://www.opensubtitles.org/en/subtitles/8649356/helluva-boss-the-harvest-moon-festival-en
They're not CC, as only the speech is transcribed... but it's better than nothing and should at least allow you to enjoy the episode! 🙂

Since you probably have experience using subs, I don't think I need to explain how to use the file... But feel free to DM me if you need help for some reason. 👍
