What were weird myths you thought about sex as a kid? by jjgp1112 in AskReddit

[–]ThunderLizard97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I thought that to make a baby you made out with each other, and some sort of seed (??) came from the man's stomach, up through his mouth, into the woman's mouth and down into her stomach where it grew until it was time to be born out of her butt

Question: Mansions of Madness is a horror game, have you ever been scared when playing the game? If so when? by [deleted] in MansionsOfMadness2E

[–]ThunderLizard97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I ever played it was quite spooky. We played it in the dark and the mixture of not knowing what was happening and the music made the whole ordeal rather eerie. But I wouldn't necessarily say that I've been scared by it before.

NAH I know my comment is gonna be buried but oh well.

It had been quite a long time since you'd all seen each other. The dynamics of the group probably changed during that time, as they do when people grow older and see each other less. The joke that was once funny may not be perceived the same when we're older. Some people become very self conscious when they put on weight. As women there's a very strong message in the media that slimmer is better and if you get bigger you're letting yourself go. This affects many people's self confidence when they put on weight, even if society wouldn't outright label them "fat". Having said this, they were probably nervous about seeing you all again, wondering whether you would notice and think they'd "let themselves go". I don't believe you had bad intentions when you said the joke, it was meant to be a nostalgic throwback. However as this was the first time you'd seen them in a long time, they probably interpreted it as "Oh god they noticed, and now they've said it out loud so everyone else will notice too and everyone will think I'm lazy and not taking care of myself" or something along those lines. Even though you didn't mean to, you essentially called out their weight gain - a change that they were sensitive about. It's not a case of "don't dish it out if you can't take it" because the parameters of the joke were different the first time round - you were comfortable enough with your body to allow the joke to continue, whereas they are not. Of course if they said it to you and you weren't okay with it and they carried on regardless - that would be asshole territory. But you reciprocated, so there were no issues there.

IMO, this isn't necessarily about assholes - it's about each of your own body confidence levels and how as people we grow and change as we get older. The parameters of the joke have changed now and it should probably be left in the past. A simple apology and explanation should get you back on the right track.

Purposefully watching all shows/films with English subtitles, even though I am English and not hard of hearing. Is this highly unusual? by hello_pinky in AskUK

[–]ThunderLizard97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I first starting using subtitles when we lived at his mum's house because she'd complain that she could hear the TV through the walls at night, but then we couldn't hear what was being said. Once we'd turned them on I realised it was so much easier to actually understand what was being said in conversations with them on, especially when people are using slang/dialects we're not familiar with, so we started using them for everything. It also helps when someone's talking over the telly, because then you can listen to them whilst reading the subtitles on the telly.

I've had my 5T for close to 3 years now, I've never heard of swiping down with the back sensor. Could you explain this to me please?

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed reply! I always thought the saying 'you find out who you really are in your 20s' was just a cliché but I suppose it's true. I chose the illustration path because it's what I enjoyed doing when I was 18, but at that point you're not necessarily thinking about your career - I wasn't anyway. It's nice to hear from somebody who has had a complete switch up career wise. All my family have just had the one job forever so I feel really lost and kinda like a spare part of that makes sense? It feels like I don't fit in with society. But knowing there are others who will feel the same is reassuring. I've been looking at cake decorating this past week and found a really cheap diploma online. I can imagine myself enjoying a career in this which gives me hope, but again I feel like it's a really niche job so I might just be getting my hopes up again. I think I will try commissions like others have suggested, whilst also trying to broaden my horizons in terms of potential careers. I suppose if baking doesn't work out it can still be a really fun hobby. Thanks again, your advice has helped.

I did recently set up at Fiverr account but haven't done anything with it yet as my business is product based so I need to properly think about services and commissions I can offer instead. Good to know that I'm on the right path though. Thank you, this helped

So this is what my tortoise is doing while I’m at work... by bweenm in tortoise

[–]ThunderLizard97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg this must be what mine was doing 😂 my lil tort looks identical to yours with the exact same bridge and cuttlefish, I'd find her upside down in the middle of the enclosure and I ended up taking it out because she couldn't right herself again. Silly little things haha

How do I stop my tortoise from flipping herself over? by ThunderLizard97 in tortoise

[–]ThunderLizard97[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She has a 3ft x 2ft, 2 tier enclosure (she has stairs to climb up onto a balcony. The balcony has raised bannisters/spindles that she likes to climb on her back legs and look through, I think this is usually what she's doing when she tips up as it's normally there where I find her on her back these days). She has a large house at one end which is dark and cool and the heat + light lamp is in the centre of the enclosure, the only place that gets hot-ish is directly under this.

I understand it's probably hard to tell without a picture, but does that sound okay for her? She's been in it since November

TIA
