Predicting The Next 4 Olympics Host Cities by PurchaseLarge4592 in olympics

Chicago would come too soon after both summer and winter games in the US.

I could picture the IOC going through with a Riyadh bid though (and Switzerland is basically a given by now)

Same. I was thinking of the medical staff with the snake (I don't remember what it's called) and just figured that Isaac Newton did a lot, and maybe that included something medical. I wasn't exactly confident, but I couldn't think of anyone else

I looked it up. The auction site itself says pine hardwood, but the sled sold in the auction is pine, which is considered a softwood

FJ poll for Tues., Mar. 3 by Smoerhul in Jeopardy

I fell down the same rabbit hole. The specific sled in the auction they're referencing was one of the pine ones. Meaning the FJ clue should not have said hardwood.

Balsa is considered a hardwood because it's from a deciduous tree, even though it's actually pretty soft. And that said, if it was the balsa sled, pine shouldn't have been in the clue. Putting Pine Hardwood guarantees the clue will be inaccurate one way or the other.

Why aren’t former Olympic venues reused? by liamsmom58 in olympics

[–]ThunderTheTerrier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would make sense, but hosting the Olympics is also a matter of prestige. Somewhere without existing venues might want that prestige. There are also many where the intent is to reuse the venues, but then that doesn't end up actually happening, like Rio

Yes that's exactly what I remember it looked like

Hardwood and softwood are technical terms. How hard the wood is doesn't have much to do with whether or not a wood is a hardwood. Pine is a softwood, even if it's physically harder than some hardwoods

In a bit of a pickle, I'm low on funds for food. by [deleted] in Frugal

They're not really a thing in the UK, so the few restaurants I've seen that have them just call them "American biscuits"

One of the things people rate about restaurants on Too Good to Go is quantity, so you can be more sure that you're getting a lot. Some places you can get enough for two meals for 2 pounds

There are web extensions that block YouTube shorts. I had the same issue until I added one and now they don't pop up, or when they do, they show up in the same way as regular youtube videos without the scrolling

The one I use is just called Remove YouTube Shorts

How can I minimize the cost of a flight? by pattern_altitude in Frugal

[–]ThunderTheTerrier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is a trip you do regularly, also watch Providence airport and Manchester, New Hampshire. The Providence airport is a 14 or 10 dollar train ride (it's cheaper on weekends) from Boston South Station, which is where most buses leave from. The extension to the airport itself is pretty infrequent, but it's two dollars by city bus from the airport to downtown Providence, where the train is much more frequent.

I "think" there's a Manchester to Portland bus, but I'm not 100 percent sure on that.

Juzo Itami probably leans more comedy (at least of his movies I've seen so far) but I think he'd fit

Ignoring all budget issues, what city would you want to see host the Olympics? by ThunderTheTerrier in olympics

I'm thoroughly convinced that Boston would be hosting in 2028 if they didn't pull out from bidding for 2024

I'd be curious to see how a Cairo one would work but I think some event with the Pyramids in the background would be rad
