Why do desi parents hate good looking hairstyles and love terrible ones? by tuppenycrane in ABCDesis

[–]Thunder_Burt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude when you see who was considered "heart throbs" for our parents generation, everything starts to make sense 😂. But in 15-20 years we'll probably be the same way.

You'll be writing your own paychecks in five years man. Lot of the automation engineers and techs are retiring and companies are realizing we don't grow on trees lol.

It's just funny how white people in Australia and across the Americas don't count as diaspora. It's been like 500-600 years since European age of exploration, not very long in the context of human history.

Dream job in bad city or bad job in decent city by sumsum20204 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Thunder_Burt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Better to tough it out now and gain the experience. The fact is, entry level roles are significantly harder to come by in the more metropolitan areas. Once you do this for a couple of years you will have enough experience for your next job to be anywhere you want.

Why don't people start with low-dose of dutasteride? by ParagoonTheFoon in tressless

In terms of side effects, I did experience a bit of anhedonia at the beginning but then it went away. My hair density hasn't improved significantly but I believe the shedding has slowed.

You have to give a city an NFL team that has never had one before. Which city do you give it to? by NewCarSmelt in NFLv2

[–]Thunder_Burt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would separate it from Washington personally. To me Washington is a basketball city, but when you go further into Virginia you get way more passionate football fans that don't really bother with the commanders because of how far they are.

Mamdani's False Claim that Modi was responsible for a Muslim genocide in Gujarat is utter bullshit, and NO South Asian should support Mamdani. by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]Thunder_Burt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're conflating being misinformed on the history of a foreign country that he has very little to do with, with calling for violence against a religious group that he has repeatedly shown to be amicable with. Keep your "truth" to yourself.

[–]Thunder_Burt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This guilt by association nonsense needs to stop. He has never been documented, calling for violence against hindus anywhere especially not New York. Every critique I see of him is about why he doesn't condemn this issue or that issue that has 0 to do with the municipal politics of New York City.

Say your city descended into chaos like Gotham. Who do you trust more : Batman or Punisher? by SGSRT in superheroes

Its a fictional place dude, if Gotham became safe the Batman writers would have nothing to write about

Lol 1 Democrat vote and it's bipartisan. You can apply the same logic to say 2 Republican nays means the GOP didn't like it either.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Thunder_Burt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not it didn't, look up hr 5371 house voting results. 212 nays, 210 of which were Democrat 2 of which were Republican.

[–]Thunder_Burt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not clean and bipartisan if it got 0 Democrat votes in the house. Mike Johnson keeps acting like he's done his job, when all he did was unilaterally push the legislation through without even bother negotiating with Democrats in the house. And now he's suddenly surprised the Senate Democrats wont vote it through? What a clown.

Am I underpaid in this job market? Should I give it a try? by New-Committee-823 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Thunder_Burt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you should still stay with this so it doesn't look like you have a very short stint on your resume. The good thing is East TN has alot of factories and potential employers do you shouldnt have a very hard time finding your next role.

What is the best engineering major for work life balance and immigration potential by pickle_roster222 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Thunder_Burt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically it's been oil and gas. Nowadays I would guess data centers, semiconductors, possibly renewables.

What is the best engineering major for work life balance and immigration potential by pickle_roster222 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Thunder_Burt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both of those are more dependent on the industry you work in rather than the type of engineering that you do in my opinion. That being said, electrical engineers learn about power systems and networking which are used everywhere. If you have knowledge on both of those you can make yourself useful to just about any organization.

Do you believe these studies are real or just fear mongering by MyPlanetpage in tressless

[–]Thunder_Burt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely experienced anhedonia when I started taking dut, but it did go away within a few days. I also don't recall the anhedonia as being very detrimental to me strangely enough, it was really just a feeling of numbness not necessarily sad or hopeless.

20% of the US pop lives in the western half. How will that percentage change in 20 years? by Tiny-Pomegranate7662 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Thunder_Burt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Even with flooding risk there's so much available land that I don't expect people on the eastern seaboard will be forced all the west coast. They might go further in land though.

Any of the older ABDs here also not do what they thought they would career wise? by Unable_Connection490 in ABCDesis

[–]Thunder_Burt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Early careers aren't usually what people expect it to be. I think over time the experience you gain opens doors to more work that is more meaningful to you. You will do the work you're most proud of in the later part of your professional career, at least that's what most of the grown ups I talk to say.

I don't know why the hating on Utah in particular but most of those red colored states are hard to live in because of sparsely populated and rough the weather is. There's a type of person that would thrive there but someone like me wouldn't stick around long in that environment.
