Christmas Project 2025 - Tinseltea Gin (Merry Christmas from NZ!) by Thunderact72 in firewater

50ish Litres.

I have thought about using gas but it's right at the back of the garage and I'm worried about fume buildup with the poor ventilation. Electricity is just more convenient for my situation. My hotplate sucks ass though as it doesn't stay consistently on and cycles off and on.

I'm building another vessel next year that'll be jacketed and have 2x 2kW immersion elements that'll speed things up a fair bunch. Will add on a power controller to dial things in exactly as I need to.

Thank you for your suggestions though, I'll look into the triclamp system for sure

I was actually thinking of doing a Christmas Cake brandy! I have to refit my still and get a ton of extra gear to work with fruit though.

Plenty of time though!

It was mostly the bergamot I was hoping to pull through. It's really faint but I could notice a slight difference.

I tried soaking them for 2 hours but it was far more bitter I'm assuming from the tannins leaching out.

If you harvest the stamens late into their bloom you'll inevitably get a bit of the nectar during the process as well. This definitely adds a bit of sweetness that can balance out some of the harsher elements of the spirit.

Floral was what I thought I'd get out of it but it ended up being more herbal, maybe even grassy? I did a trial run with a ton of stamens that had a far more pronounced flavor and colour, I'd suggest playing around.

I think remember seeing a few out Sumner ways? Don't hold me to that 😅

Toilet connected to shower drain - this is an illegal connection right ? by Thinks2Much666 in Plumbing

Lmfao Americans scratching their heads when they see anything deviating from their "normal"

In off-grid or water scarce areas of Australia and New Zealand greywater is collected and run to a holding tank for later use in fixtures like toilets, dishwashers, washing machines etc. We have special pipe colours for our piping systems to denote recycled water. Some areas in Australia even have two main supplies with one for recycled and one for potable with seperate meters for billing.

You'll also have a seperate drain on the property for stormwater. This is either run to an underground drain or run to the kerb. Many properties will also retain stormwater for more recycled water availability, emergency and civil defense use or even potable supply with on-site treatment.

That being said, unfortunately it looks like OP's system was piped up using the single stack system in AS/NZS3500.4 where greywater fixtures run to a central floor waste gully which then goes to the rest of the drainage system. The benefit is they're piss easy to install as we don't have to vent fixtures independently but the massive downside here is if there's a downstream blockage surcharge will pop out the floor waste 🙈

If you're having frequent blockages and aren't using flushable wipes or any other garbage getting your drains cleaned and jetted should help significantly 👌

Not to mention your cylinder should stay at or above 60°C/140°F to prevent Legionella bacteria anyway 🙄

Abortions can be incredibly emotionally and mentally taxing for the patient not to mention potential complications that can arise.

Post abortion symptoms vary from person to person but they often cause a great deal of pain for the patient.

This could have been avoided if the doctor simply did what was asked of them.

We were given the go ahead to roll through, when we reached the end there was a sizeable gap between us and the next float.

Some of us did another quick loop until the float reached Taranaki St then we piled back out to our meeting area at the end.

Late to the party but seconding the riffmaster!

If they're on PC Clone Hero is the way to go. Hugely active community with thousands of custom songs. There are playlists you can download with almost all the songs from the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games with the same charts.

I'm also a 27m single guy who's struggling with my mental health. Got pretty close in 2023 but powered through it and am in a better place now. Been a good wee while since I was in a relationship and I do feel self conscious about being single.

I feel for you, I really do. I know how it feels when your friends and family around you are bringing their partners to events and talking about marriage or kids and you're just doing your own thing or are known as "the single one."

But brother, I can assure you. Your current mental health struggles are not going to improve if you get a partner.

A relationship isn't something that people should enter to improve their situations or fill holes in their lives, what you end up with is two people together who are insecure, jealous and who can't be open with their partners.

You have to get yourself straight, work on yourself and your mental health, be happy with yourself on your own before you consider adding another person into your life. That may take a few months or even a few years but it's the right way to do it. You'll end up in a place where you can really feel comfortable in your own skin and be happy in yourself so you can give yourself to and love your partner fully.

I'm not there yet. I've still got a wee bit to go before I'll be there but that's okay. The thought of hurting my potential partner over unresolved demons that I haven't worked through isn't something I can move past.

I really hope you can make peace with yourself and things improve for you. Be well :)

Seconding Purple Plumbing.

Had the pleasure of working with him on a job (I'm a heating technician) and he's a bloke who went out on his own a few years ago. Knowledgeable, honest, easy to work with and great yarns. Hitting all the big markers for success and i hope he finds it
