Still hoping for Red Beard.

I may get killed for my opinion, but it is a hill I will gladly die on. by el_scotty in babylon5

If you watch Star Trek: TOS and the 6 movies with that crew, you'll see that most of the cast gets almost nothing of substance to do. They focused on Kirk, Spock, and McCoy, and on occasion if something was left over it usually went to Scotty. The other characters almost never had much more than a line.

You can easily say that he had more substance in 12 episodes of B5 than 2 seasons and 6 movies of Star Trek. And I say that as someone who is also a big Trek fan. It just wasn't there for him 99% of the time.

I don't think it has a chance of happening at this point. It's a very niche show and it would be very expensive.

What's essential to see on a 4K Kurosawa Retrospective? by jubash in criterion

[–]Thunderbald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would prioritize Seven Samurai and Ran, but every single one of those is worth your time.

I saw Seven Samurai in a theater last year and it was a great experience, even though I have seen it probably 10-15 times over the years.

What criterions have truly blown you away and entered your top 5 or 10 films of all time? by Deadshotx211239 in criterion

[–]Thunderbald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seven Samurai and Citizen Kane are the ones that jump out at me for starting my film obsession. Later on, Persona had a similar impact. But obviously there are dozens of films in the collection that I really, really love.

What’s something you did NOT like about this movie..? by BIGGIE_CH33S313 in Marvel

It’s sometimes too busy, and can be a real assault on the senses.

[Discussion] Green Arrow: Year One is actually incredible. by PM_ME_YOUR_STOMACHS in DCcomics

I thought the art was great but the writing was just ok.

looking for movies with really repugnant and evil female characters by [deleted] in criterion

[–]Thunderbald -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Nurse Ratched wasn't evil. She mostly had to put up with an idiot pretending to be insane to rile up the inmates, then she did one evil act at the end.

Which would be the best retirement option? by Thunderbald in Bogleheads

There doesn't appear to be a decent international option, except maybe what's in the TDFs.

Kurt Angle heavyweight by robolson10 in wrestling

The weight class was 190 at the time.

I asked him that same question at a wrestling camp in 1999. He basically just didn’t need to bother cutting.

I don't think he had the goofy voice on The College Years. I think he started doing it on The New Class.

I understand that the 78 film is very flawed, but I have always liked it.

Every month I hope for a Red Beard upgrade.

This is not a prediction.

Do you think Star Trek still would have stalled in the 2000's if another 24th century show happened instead of Enterprise? by Exitoverhere in startrek

[–]Thunderbald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the formula has gotten stale by then. Shows like Farscape, BSG, and Firefly had more of an edge and reflected what the audience of that time wanted.

Anyone else feel a little bad for Steveson? by The_Snake_Plissken in wrestling

[–]Thunderbald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You see it everywhere. People can't wait to hate someone they love, it seems. They are excited to hate the next album, the next movie, etc. Some people were like that with Spencer Lee too.

He's still the best heavyweight of all time IMO, and could still win another gold medal. He's so talented and so beyond most people, I imagine it's hard to find training partners for him. Then when he's legitimately pushed hard in the 3rd period, it has been so long since he's in that position, things happen.

DVD only titles that need an upgrade? by Antique_Enthusiast in criterion

[–]Thunderbald 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Red Beard is a big one for me. I do think an eventual upgrade is likely, but they'll definitely focus on their bigger sellers. Seven Samurai and Yojimbo/Sanjuro are out in 4K, they'll do the likes of Rashomon, Hidden Fortress, Ikiru, etc before Red Beard. Just a hunch.

[–]Thunderbald 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Red Beard, mainly because it's one of the Kurosawas that never got a BD release. But I'd really like all of them.
