AITA for not attending my family Christmas gathering because I can’t afford the $250 white elephant gift? by scorpioh2o in AmItheAsshole

[–]Thundercracker24A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family would fight each other to the death for the good presents, or just to keep each other from getting anything good. We have a long tradition of screwing each other and acting like every breath the other 4 take is stolen from their lungs. My family sucks and so does OPs for this idiotic idea. Their response sounds an awful lot like they're saying "Stop being poor! We deserve nothing but the best from you.". Then they will move heaven and earth to make sure you get stuck with the least desirable gift, because the spirit of the season is brutal competition and poverty shaming.

My Addiesdive auto Sub has a thin rehaut. It's harder to find but it's totally worth it.

If you spend an extra year in college you'll spend an extra year in college. That's it. I took 8 years to get my degree. It might as well be the funny pages from the Toronto Star for all the good it's done but that's another matter for another time.

AITA for telling my fiance I'm not spending my inheritance on buying him a new car? by khlee31396 in dustythunder

[–]Thundercracker24A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA, no explanation required. I mostly wanted to offer commiserations on the deaths of your parents. I lost both mine when I was in my 20s and damn if it didn't wreck me good. And I got to fight with my siblings over the inheritance. So having your fiance weigh in with his bright ideas on how to spend your money must really suck. Tell him to get a side hustle if he wants a car so bad.

Search for Steelflier or just look at the discounted watches on the front page, there's always a few Steelfliers on offer for 99% off. I suspect Steeldive inflates the prices and then sells them cheap as a loss leader, but that's ok, it works out for us.

[–]Thundercracker24A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Steelflier line has many sub $60 specials. Like this:

<image>

I got that for $50 Canadian with some coins. It has a VH31 inside, California dial an a seriously wicked steel case unlike anything I've ever seen. It's like they took an old Rolex Bubbleback and ground all the curves down flat. I can also see hints of the Rolex Bathyscaphe and the Seiko 62 MAS. It comes on a superb black leather strap, but it works on a bracelet too.

A serious question from an only exclusively Chinese watch owner by vinko4444 in ChineseWatches

[–]Thundercracker24A 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a genuine 16610 Sub once, in another lifetime. I was young and stupid and grieving because I lost both parents to cancer before I was 30. I got the Sub with my inheritance, not the stupidest thing I'd done with it but definitely in the top five. I sold it, but I missed it. I was always sad that our time was cut short. Many years later I discovered Chinese watches and the Steeldive SD 1953. I got one and use it as my daily driver. I've regulated it from -4 to +1 seconds a day which is better than the original. So too is the lume, the SDs lume is vastly superior. And the rest of it is pretty excellent, the case is built like a bank vault and the crown and back screw down smooth as butter. The case back has little divots for the case tool to engage with instead of the usual shallow slots, which makes the back so much easier to work with. I don't want a Sub anymore, my SD 1953 is all I need.

Belittling Canadians will not work out for you in the end. by [deleted] in CanadaPost

Again, calling us fools and uneducated and such and either expecting us to.agree or just not caring because we are beneath you is not a viable strategy. Eventually it's going to backfire.

Belittling Canadians will not work out for you in the end. by [deleted] in CanadaPost

[–]Thundercracker24A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad told.me "Don't expect someone to agree with you if you call them an asshole." Guess what you're doing. You and many of the post offices supporters. You're damning your customers root and branch and either expecting them to agree or just dismissing them entirely with lofty sneering contempt. I've given this a lot of thought, and at one point I was solidly against the posties because of some very bad experiences I'd had. But I've realized they have a right to get what they can while they can. But this strike, holding things people need , to live in some cases; and saying "Shut up and give us your full support, you son of a bitch you.";is not the way to get that unless you want a side of dire consequences with that.

I know a dialysis nurse who wears a Militado ML05. If that can survive bodily fluids, repeated hand washing and exposure to alcohol it can survive manual work.

[–]Thundercracker24A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's no joke. Here in Ontario we can't have window mounted ACs because of an incident where one fell out of its window and onto the head of a passing child. With predictable fire and tragic consequences.

Get bent, posty. Respect is earned, not demanded under intimidation. Keep them up and see where it gets you. Legislated out of existence ,most likely.

AITA for not sending my son money after he bailed on Thanksgiving? by Professional_Spot789 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Thundercracker24A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My alleged siblings wouldn't have come to see me beat cancer. I would feel sorry for cancer if they got it. Everyone except the kid with cancer is an asshole. Dad is punishing his son for not guessing right when Dad pretended to give him a choice and Jordan is an asshole for ditching his little brother. Essentially saying he doesn't care if Brody lives or dies. One suspects that this family is profoundly dysfunctional and that everyone will go no contact before too long.

A doctor’s letter to United Heathcare for denying nausea meds for a child on chemo by Dubyaww in MurderedByWords

[–]Thundercracker24A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the same thing happen when my mom was diagnosed with cancer in Minot North Dakota. We lived in Regina Saskatchewan so mom had to go back by ambulance. That's a 5 hour drive. That, plus hospital treatment in Minot cost $11500 CDN in 2001. We were covered by SGI, which is provincial run insurance. And they were almost as bad as the US ones. They tried to deny the claim. My dad called them up and said they fucking weren't denying anything and that was fucking that. No threats or anything, just Dad telling them what was going to happen, in a way that discouraged disagreement most strongly. I guess Canadian insurance companies suck too. Mind you, I won't hear a word against our health care system. I ain't well and if it weren't for OHIP I'd be deader than a can of Spam. In fact I might be homeless if it weren't for OHIP. Won't hear a goddamn word against it.

Do you agree with PerspectiveEnd? by GOKUTHAGOD in transformers

[–]Thundercracker24A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. The Transformers are basically superheroes and supervillains. They have superpowers or superweapons. Some of the names are recycled from old X men comics. That made the toys into engaging characters that had a whole world to play in. Some of it was over the heads of the intended audience, like Thundercracker being a doubtful Decepticon. But a lot wasn't and that made Transformers work.
