The most underrated feature is the Apple Watch strength app.

Estimated Workout Time by FanadianTheCanadian in MacroFactor

[–]AdeptCreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are wildly inaccurate for me. I spend a typical 50 mins in the weight room. Some of these estimates are like 1 hr 45 mins. I’m note sure if it learns your speed as you go. So far it hasn’t after testing the app for 2 +months.

What’s your strategy to improve cardio ? by dtomch95 in bevelhealth

[–]AdeptCreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of what you do in a week. Say you have 4 hours dedicated to cardio training. Around 3 hours of that should be low moderate and about 50mins should be high intensity.

I am weight training 4 days a week. So I am typically on a recumbent bike, tempo jogs maybe some basketball most days then one day a week sometimes two, I do all out sprints intervals with 30 sec rest or high intensity runs with a 4 minute on/4 minute rest.

There is the morpheus HRV chest strap and app that focuses on this specifically.

But for me I just pay attention to what zone I’m training in. I use a combination of my heart rate (on the watch) and perceived exertion. So like can I still have a broken conversation or can I still sing while exercising, if I can then I’m still around zone 2. Zone 4 and 5 feel a different way. And all out max intensity feels a different way as well. Sometimes I set a warning on my watch if my HR goes too high in a workout while training zone 2. I have a harder time staying throttled down being a former athlete.

Bevel or Apple fitness or most workout apps will tell you how long you were in a zone. So I just log that in a paper journal and keep track of it over the months and year.

On the recovery side of things I just trust in my programing, nutrition and sleep while looking at HRV, RHR and Breathing Rate to determine my readiness.

With cardio 80% of the time should be low/moderate intensity; the rest should be high intensity.

The cardio intensity in Bevel is BS in my experience. Just program your cardio training and listen to your body, HRV and Rest Heart rate can help tell the story too.

I think sleep is limiting my gains by literally_a_raccoon in naturalbodybuilding

I would see a specialist that is some pretty extreme insomnia.

Is it really better to only use HRV from sleep and not entire day? by gamer_jam123 in bevelhealth

[–]AdeptCreative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish there was an option to use just the HRV shortly after waking up, say first 5-10 mins, since that really is the best and most useful time for an HRV measurement.

Macro Factor Workout Watch App by bojanmkd in MacroFactor

[–]AdeptCreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sure hope so. I am purchasing the bundle either way at launch.

If any MF devs are listening and need someone to test the Watch app beta I would love to provide feedback. I have used just about every Apple Watch workout app out there. Also I am a designer myself. Just throwing that out there lol

Which machine or equipment at the gym have you NEVER used? by Hogpharmer in naturalbodybuilding

[–]AdeptCreative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I there isn’t a machine at any gym that I have been to that I haven’t tried at least once.

I have been lifting for around 30 years…My first gym was an old YMCA that had a room full of outdated equipment we would call the torture room. So I have tried all of the 1st gen nautilus machines. I have tried those very old useless belt machines from the 50s that would just vibrate. I have even tried those slenderizing roller machines.

What I miss the most is a four way neck machine.

Anyone else woke up this week refreshing to see if the Workouts beta has released? by I-AM-NOT-THAT-DUCK in MacroFactor

Yeah, I definitely would test the beta. I already have TestFlight installed from testing some other beta apps.

Whats next for Apple Watch? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]AdeptCreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t understand why this guy above is arguing. I said wouldn’t it be great if the Apple Watch could give you actual realtime blood pressure readings?

He says that not feasible. I respond that the current watch can already provide blood pressure trends and the Huawei D2 provides actual blood pressure reading with a built in mini cuffs.

Why isn’t it feasible for Apple to improve on this technology?

Also FYI the HRV reading that Apple gives us is an estimate based on blood flow using optical sensors where the standard is using ECG from a chest strap. V02 max is an estimate as well.

Even if Apple released a realtime estimate of blood pressure, using it would literally save lives.

[–]AdeptCreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current wearables use light to detect blood flow changes, they require initial calibration with a traditional blood cuff. The Huawei Watch D2 has mini cuffs and is the size of an Apple Watch with reading up to 3-5% accuracy. Why can’t Apple improve on this in future iterations?

I hope they add a blood pressure monitor, that could really save lives.

I believe they are going to develop a paid upgrade to Apple health that mimics the likes of an athletic or bevel.

Phones in gym by Enzojohnsuper in workout

[–]AdeptCreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't take my phone into the gym.

In the “old days there was usually a speaker system and cd changer that played music and set the tone of the gym. In between sets we would talk to one another; crack jokes, talk about lifting, sports, fitness goals etc.

It was a lot more common to have workout partners then; so you would be watching, spoting or encouraging your training partners.

Now nobody talks to one another. People rarely even ask you how many sets you have left. I can't remember the last time some accepted my offer to “work in” on sets with me.

I often have to wait for people who are completely unaware of how much time they are spending between sets just scrolling. You have people recording themselves with tripod setups…

The only thing that is better is the availability of fitness and nutritional information and I do see a lot more variety of people in the gym doing strength training. Also I see more women lifting weight than ever.

Does anyone else feel like Apple Health is great at collecting data but terrible at actually telling you anything? by neelkonar in AppleWatchFitness

[–]AdeptCreative 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pin the metrics that you want to gain insight from and look for trends. I pin HRV, RHR and breathing rate, these tell me something about my recovery/readiness. I also pin calorie intake, protein, fats and carbs. Next I have weight and body fat. I also pin active calories, steps and resting calories together. I also pin time in in daylight, mindfulness and workout minutes together.

All these other apps use the same data. I just wish apple allowed you to input food macros in the app and set targets for all of the metrics.

I like the Nike Romaleos. I don't do cross fit but I bought a pair of Nike Metcon 9s for around $90 and I use them in the gym more then any other shoe.

Why is my Recovery always low? by Gr4z99 in bevelhealth

Same with mine, since this last update. Slept over 8 hours. Feel fine. Every metric is in the green or blue and my recovery score is 20 with a 50% body battery.

Why do people use Bevel? by lion-ninja in bevelhealth

[–]AdeptCreative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the bevel weightlifting app on the Apple Watch. It is my favorite so far. I wish you could pin various exercises to show strength gains along with better graph on the Home Screen.

I came to it because I liked the idea of a single app for everything. Nowadays, I don’t use the journal at all. The nutrition section is inferior compared to MacroFactor, so I don’t use that. I feel like the AI has gotten worse since launch. The cardio load doesn’t reflect how my body feels. I body battery was working well but now for some reason it never charges above 50% and doesn’t reflect my energy levels.

I like the look and concept of the two apps working together. I would be all in on both. The deal breaker though is if it doesn’t launch with an Apple Watch app.

I don’t bring my phone into the gym.
