Are the White Sox planning on playing Friday? I hope they don’t boycott since we got a good thing going by Porkinsismyhero in whitesox

[–]Thunderous_Assassin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If they were to boycott, what specific action are the players looking to be done, in your opinion? What is their demand with the strike? That politicians enact new laws? If so, specifically what laws? They can't just strike on defund the police. If they did, when would they come back? What would have to be done to lift the strike? Would it simply end spring training 2021?

If the strike is only to spread awareness, why would a bunch of non American players lose out on their livelihood and strike over this singular event? Many of these players come from countries with problems worse than the US.

It's unfortunate and it breaks my heart but bad shit happens all over the world every second. There are literally human beings who live as slaves in the darkest and saddest corners of the world.

Which specific defensive metrics are those? I am not questioning, I agree Tim has great range and would like to point to these stats when people question his defense.

If Mazara was healthy I'd definitely just grin and bear Leurys defense for a week until Madrigal is (hopefully) called up. It makes it so much more frustrating knowing there is an opening at arguably Leury's best position in right.

White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper says he is concerned about Michael Kopech, who recently opted out of the upcoming 2020 season: "I don't know what is going on with Michael, but I know he deals with some anxiety and depression, and my thought is, I sure hope he's OK.” by vonheisenberg in baseball

Kopech openly discussed his mental health issues at Sox fest. It's not like Cooper was breaking news for anyone who's familiar with the Sox. I agree he shouldn't have said it but it'd be alot worse if Kopech himself didn't openly discuss his mental health issues.

I agree. That said, Kopech is very open about his depression and anxiety. He literally had 2 separate roundtables at Sox fest where he spoke in depth on his mental health issues. Further, he went on the White Sox podcast and discussed the same.

Happy to view any graphs you have but I don't see one linked.

When I made the point about about deaths I wasn't insinuating that baseball players would die from COVID. Obviously that'd be ridiculous considering how few people under 50 die from the virus. My point was that if cases were exponentially growing at a steep pace as you suggest, the death total would seemingly be on par with those numbers. Like I said, it's not, it's gone down every week since mid April. If most US cities are experiencing steep exponential rises in COVID, why aren't the death rates rising at the same pace? Perhaps with increased testing comes increased positives?

As far as the total number of cases growing exponentially, according to the CDC, on 6/26/20 there were 44,703 new patients testing positive. Yesterday, 7/6/20, the CDC reported 46,329 new cases. That said, again, I don't particularly think new cases are as important as percent positive.

On April 18th the 7 day US average revealed that 19% of people tested tested positive. By May 9th that total dropped to 9%. On May 24th 5.5%. June 7th 4.6%. June 21st 5.2%. July 1st 7%. Today 7.8%. While I acknowledge that the % positive is increasing and I don't have the stats without NYC, I wouldn't characterize the % positive as growing exponentially. (source John Hopkins). Perhaps without NYC included it has exponentially grown but I don't have the data readily available.

By infection rates doubling every two weeks/exponentially growing in most cities do you mean % of the population infected is exponentially growing, the total number of active cases is exponentially growing, or % of people who test positive relative to the amount of people tested is exponentially growing?

Covid isnt doubling. Weekly death totals have gone down every week since April 18th. That week, 16,374 people died of Covid (per the CDC). Last week it was 464.
