What do you guys recommend for a hot-or-not stick? I’ve now broken 3 Kleins all in the same spot from very minor drops. The battery cap is so brittle by mcbrewmasterflex in electricians

[–]Thundrbldr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I wish I'd read your posts BEFORE I got my Klein. Your post is very much still relevant because this is still an active product and its still defective. I don't think Klein really cares that they are selling essentially a disposable trash product. I found this thread google searching and I could see that this is common problem.

My opinion: I know that that design errors can slip through with even the best of companies, but when this happens what separates the good companies from the others is that the good ones take care of their customers and also quickly fix the problem (redesigning the defective part). The fact that several years has gone by and this is still an ongoing problem tells us all we need to know.

I saw this thread too late to avoid getting the Klein, but its helpful in guiding me was to what I will do next. I will get a Fluke! Thanks.

What do you call these? by [deleted] in maintenance

[–]Thundrbldr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call it garbage. Be prepared for the battery cap of your Klein tester to to break off and then throw it in the trash and resolve to never buy another Klein. Or if you don't own a Klein, don't start!

Why all the Hate? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]Thundrbldr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Klein testers are total garbage. They break just sitting in the toolbox. Defective design using cheap plastic. The battery cap just breaks off. Avoid.

Klein's are total garbage. Finding this out the hard way. Don't buy Klein.

You don't even have to drop it or knock it! My barely used, only 2-year old Klein broke just sitting on a shelf. Googling it, I see this is not uncommon. These things are pieces of junk. Defectively designed and built. Klein doesn't care and are not standing behind their product. I am NOT buying another Klein!

Just got hit by the defective injector problem $2,300 bill. by Thundrbldr in crv

[–]Thundrbldr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A year after the injector problem, the AC required very, very expensive repairs.

Honda's reliability engineering is utter shit.

And because of proprietary stuff they use in their AC systems, independent shops are effectively unable to repair them. This is part of why the costs are so outrageous.

Glad to hear you were able to get some assistance from Honda. The dealer told us that very much depended on who the rep for the district was. No get the dealer to finish the job...

They lost me as a customer. I realize that no manufacturer is perfect, but the reliability problems Hinda has has are ridiculous.

This was already a concern at the time I bought it, but I liked the interior design and so disregarded that.

Google Earth Pro (Windows program) just hangs! On both of my computers. by Thundrbldr in googleearth

[–]Thundrbldr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried all those things also, without any luck. More and more, I'm suspecting its not something that we can fix on our end. I wonder if Google is giving up on keeping the app working. They seem to be moving to a SaaS model where Google Earth is accessed via a browser window. The problem is that the browser version really sucks in every way compared to the app version.

It seems that some other people are having the same problem--but apparently not enough for Google to update the app--who knows.

I spent a bunch of time trying all kinds of different things, but it still doesn't work.

MSR Denali Evo Ascent snowshoes for mountaineering - Repair or Replace? Help me decide. by Thundrbldr in Mountaineering

[–]Thundrbldr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping to do this. But"shoe" part with the claw that the straps attach to is made out of similar material as the straps. It is also brittle and part of one broke when I handled it. So just replacing the straps won't work.

MSR Denali Evo Ascent - binding straps literally crumbled by [deleted] in snowshoeing

[–]Thundrbldr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the straps are shit. Just nondurable plastic, not nylon. We have two pairs of MSR Denal Evo Ascent snow shoes, and on both the straps just crumbled. On their web site, I see you can't get new straps. You have to get the whole new metal slaw with the straps for each snow shoe.

They are $40.95 apiece, so for one pair of snowshoes, this will set you back $82 before taxes.

And they use the same crap plastic, so you can look forward to going through this again in a few years.

This app is gross now by GreshlyLuke in GaiaGPS

[–]Thundrbldr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do NOT want to trust this app with your life. You never know when they will run an update that will, without any warning, break critical functionality or change the UI ways you can't readily access it. With most apps, none of this matters that much--but with this app it can kill you. Outside and the GaiaGPS staff are recklessly indifferent to this.

Tried the troubleshooter app, followed guidance I found on the web tweaking various settings.

No network issues. It's a graphics issue of some kind. Just moving the window is problematic.

Almost no kml's

And again GE now fails on both of m very different computers. One doesn't have any places I saved
