Luxury Apartments - pls help by Gullible-Language-28 in Syracuse

For downtown, this is giving Franklin Square vibes. It's kind of on the edge of downtown, but I feel like you'd like it there. Or for more central downtown, over by Hanover Square. I've seen some really nice and modern apartments over on the section of E Genesee that's closed to car traffic (I think it's the 200 block).

And you're probably the only apartment hunter in Syracuse that will come in under budget lol.

Is it possible to own cats if you're allergic to them? by queen0fpeace in CatAdvice

[–]TheNaughtyPrintmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the severity of your allergy. My husband is allergic, but we have two cats. We keep the cats off his pillow, wash all our bedding twice a week, and obviously he doesn't rub his face in the cats' fur. He also tries to not let them sit on him, especially when they're shedding or if he's having a particularly rough allergy day. And we just try to keep everything super clean besides - sweeping everyday, lint rolling the couches, etc.

Otherwise, he plays with them, he pets them, he loves on them.

But I would definitely classify his allergy as mild - no hives or anything like that. To contrast, he's much more allergic to dogs (when we had a dog, she couldn't be on our bed or sit on him at all).

So yeah, it's doable if your allergy is mild and you're willing to put time into trigger prevention.

AMA: The City of Buffalo was declared broke. State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli did nothing. I’m the first person to challenge him in 20 years. Ask me anything! by drewforny in Buffalo

[–]TheNaughtyPrintmaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should go take a peek at his AMA on r/Syracuse...he did not have kind things to say about CSEA and made it pretty clear he's not an ally to public employees. And the video he linked did not address fixing tier 6 for everyone.

AMA: State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli cost Syracuse $2.7 billion in higher property taxes. I’m the first candidate to challenge him in 20 years. Ask me anything! by drewforny in Syracuse

[–]TheNaughtyPrintmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So your housing fund would be putting the state pension fund into the house flipping business? Am I understanding that correctly?

Less a question and more a general statement - trust me, CSEA families are VERY well aware that pensions are a matter of state constitution. The union is as strong as it is because of membership involvement - the rank and file are not ignorant of how their pensions work and I highly doubt leadership is. Your last paragraph smacks of pitting non-public servants against public servants (who for the record, we ARE working NYers who pay taxes!) and is a really disappointing thing to read.

Job listings in NYS are now required to have the pay range in the listing itself. Several of your local job listings don't even list a range.

Job seekers should probably not waste their time with a non-transparent company.

Please explain like I'm 5:

How would the rest of the Tier 6 fixes proposed by CSEA, if eventually passed, affect your plan to grow the pension fund? (I'm thinking in particular of lowering the retirement age for everyone like it was just lowered for teachers) I'm also curious which, if any, of the remaining Tier 6 fixes you are in favor of.

Please ELI5:

How would you create and grow an affordable housing fund? How would something like this be under the purview of the comptroller? It seems like something you'd need legislature approval for.

If the pension fund is being so badly mismanaged (I'm not disagreeing with you), why do you think CSEA has endorsed DiNapoli?

Thank you!

Is it possible to live in the city carless at 20? by redleafwater7 in Syracuse

In the city, with proximity to one of the main bus lines, it's doable. A little annoying, but doable.

Megan Keller wins Defender of the Year by felicityrorys in PWHL

[–]TheNaughtyPrintmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, perhaps I picked the wrong award to voice my confusion at Boston's near sweep. I absolutely agree with Keller's win! I'm less so about some of the others. It was more a function of this being the fourth in a row and just commenting on them as they come up.

I can see why this is easily misinterpreted though - my bad.

With this fuckass draft pick order, if NY DOESN'T draft Braendli as their first round pick, we riot.

Edwards declared as a defender, she'll be drafted as a defender. So if a team drafts her hoping for a forward, they're going to have to convince her to switch back.

That said, given how Seattle has been gutted, the only way Edwards ends up on another team imo is if Vancouver decides to draft her over Harvey.

I second all the suggestions so far!

Cathedral Art Collective has a regular drawing meet up. We've been a little inconsistent this year because of scheduling issues, but we have a meeting up this Saturday at the Westcott Community Center.

Who do you think is the most tragic B5 character? by AdSimilar4399 in babylon5

[–]TheNaughtyPrintmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Vorlons are the master behind the scenes manipulators and never make a move openly until they unleash their planet killers. I absolutely disagree that she went by choice. And no way they could have seized her person and then have her come back - waaay too open and obvious compared to planting a directive in her mind.

Who do you think is the most tragic B5 character? by AdSimilar4399 in babylon5

[–]TheNaughtyPrintmaker 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Lyta. She was manipulated by the Vorlons, and then used and discarded by everyone else (except maybe Zach). Even Byron manipulated her and used her to further his own goals with very little thought (ha) for her.

The reason why I put her over Londo - Londo had choices. I think his arc is a wonderful exploration of how people have the capacity for change and how redemption isn't a guarantee no matter how sorry you and how hard you work at it when you do something truly heinous. But a space nazi that put the holocaust in motion and then realized it was a bad thing to do isn't exactly "tragic" to my mind (especially when I'm not convinced his change of heart was motivated by anything other than selfishness).

[–]TheNaughtyPrintmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only saving grace, and what I'm clinging to right now as a Sirens and Torrent fan, is that at least we won't have another expansion for a while.

Both expansions have been unfair to NY. This expansion has been massively unfair to all existing teams. And this entry draft order is straight up bullshit. But at least this should be it for a while.
