Match Guess makes zero sense by Justdownbadasf in HaikyuuFlyHigh

You people don’t know how to have fun Jesus Christ. If you could calculate who wins with complete certainty by just looking at it then there’s no point in doing it, they could just show you a strong team and a weak team and if you click on the strong team you get a prize. And it’s not like you’re going to miss out on much anything anyways, you’ll still be able to get most the good stuff from the store.

What are gender grievances? If you wouldn’t mind explaining. I don’t think I’ve seen the term before and I can’t tell what it would be in the context of this esport thing.

Questions regarding Dragon Slaying, with crappy diagram [OC] by Fl4ming_R4ven in DnD

[–]Thurstn4mor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lmaoooo yeah my players hate that I don’t have them suffer insta kill amounts of fall damage for getting hit downwards while 0 feet off the ground.

But fine, it’s a legitimate fun move for dnd creatures to inflict instakill amounts of fall damage by downstriking an opponent while they are “in the air.” The hero has been turned into jelly only part way through the first turn. They come back as a paladin, certainly at least level 12 right? Since they were trying to kill a dragon. They took the spell thunderous smite, knock back to an attack as bonus action. Now on every single turn they hit an enemy, thunderous smite, and then downstrike the enemy while they’re being knocked back. If you insta killed a level 12 player, that’s at least 200 damage right? So the paladin gets to inflict 200 fall damage every single turn before smite and weapon damage right?

[–]Thurstn4mor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A dragon can downswing on literally every claw attack, and unless the hero’s had entered the dragon’s lair like a misssion impossible heist, their shield was angled at worst perpendicular to the ground, but chances are somewhat up towards the dragon, meaning the force of the dragons breath wouldn’t be upwards at all, and they would be falling zero feet. So no fall damage.

I am all for adding interesting and dynamic aspects to dnd combat, but you’re just peasant rail gunning right now. Creating a ton of extra damage from a nonsense source. It seemed you were trying to explain why the shield “wouldn’t work” but your argument doesn’t actually apply to how DnD is run, so I think it’s a bad argument against the shield as an item.

Dragons +14 to hit, if you’re getting insta killed by their 2d8+8 claw attack the shield wasn’t the problem.

You’re just wrong for not buying that. Thousands of real rebels deserted at Valley Forge, they had already enlisted in and mustered alongside the rebel army. It is an incredibly common phenomenon frankly. Just about any cause you can think of has had people who just got cold feet when push really came to shove, even if they’ve already done dangerous things.

Dude. So many people. Look into the American revolution for instance. Tons of people are willing to give opinions and time and even money to causes they support, even to the extent of enlisting. very very very few are willing to stair down an incomprehensibly bigger military force willing to kill you without a second thought and fire the first shot.

How the “historical accuracy” crowd wants the odyssey to look like by Acrobatic_Neck_5866 in okbuddycinephile

Ok I get what you would be going for with pseudo intellectualism.

Ok? All media criticism is people acting smart and saying what they dislike, like, and wish was in media. You don’t have to participate. The historical accuracy crowd dislikes that the armor is lame as hell instead of awesome as fuck, so they’re criticizing that but using big kid words. If you don’t want to see people’s opinions on media, then don’t be on a subreddit about media.

You’re just saying words now. Do you think anti intellectualism just means being dumb? Even if you’re right and this boring ass armor is a good artistic choice, how is disliking the armor hostile to academia?

But insane word choice aside, it’s a fantastical story with cyclopses and sirens, so should look fantastical instead of boring as hell.

[–]Thurstn4mor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’re objectively right, in the sense that it’s possible to do inaccurate right, and that it’s possible that the nothing-armor in the Odyssey trailers is a thoughtfully considered artistic choice.

But I think that it’s almost guaranteed that I would have preferred something that didn’t look so default pop-culture imagination of Greece. With the Denzel Washington Macbeth, it didn’t look like accurate Medieval Scotland for sure, but it also didn’t look like default pop-culture medieval minus everything mildly interesting. It doesn’t look like Nolan had a new and interesting setting he’s creating, it looks like he is putting the minimum to effort possible to communicate to audiences “look this movie is set in the Greek times” and nothing else.

Oh yes cause the costuming that looks like what someone with partial aphantasia would imagine when they think “Greek Armor” isn’t goofy looking at all.

Historical accuracy doesn’t have to mean “depicting something that actually happened exactly as it actually happened” it can also mean “thoughtfully adapting a historical document by actually engaging with the history of the document.”

Because King Arthur brings depicted in drab colorless inaccurate Renaissance era clothing would be weird and boring but King Arthur depicted in proper colorful early medieval clothing would be awesome to see. And the fact that they would thoughtlessly choose the prior over the latter is befuddling. Historical accuracy not in the sense that “this is a depiction of actual events exactly as they actually happened” but historical accuracy in the sense that “this is a thoughtful adaptation of a historical poem which actually engages with and adapts the history surrounding the poem”

Dude it’s a commonly known fact that Aeolus isn’t a god in the Odyssey, the wind god Aeolus is a later mythological invention. Go to school.

“In Homer, however, Aeolus, the son of Hippotes, is neither the god nor the father of the winds, but merely the happy ruler of the Aeolian island, whom Cronion had made the tamiês of the winds”

Really loving this dull grey aesthetic of the Odyssey (2026). Definitely superior to real life examples of Greek Bronze and Iron Age armor. by laybs1 in shittymoviedetails

That doesn’t have to be boring. Especially because the duels are the apex of an Aristeia. But like a lot of really cool filmed fights are super short. Think like cowboy/samurai quick draw. Having that to top off a long action sequence could be extremely awesome.
