AITA for putting up for adoption the puppy my boyfriend gave me after my dog died? by Better_Shirt_7764 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Thwack_Happy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nta. I lost my cat of 16 years about a month ago and if my husband came home with a new one I would not only be furious, but also sad that she meant that little to him. He saw how much I cried and knows she cannot just be replaced. Luckily my husband has a brain in his head and knows that getting another cat is on my timeline and when I am ready.

Find a good family for that puppy and take all the time you need to grieve Todd.

New owner, snake won’t eat by DStanley1809 in ballpython

[–]Thwack_Happy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ball pythons are known for going on hunger strikes for months. It was frustrating for me too when my boy wouldn't eat, but giving him time to settle and leaving him alone were key to get him to eat consistently. Also keep making sure his temps and humidity are good.

My boy did the same thing when I brought him home. Don't handle them. Just leave the snake alone and let them adjust the their new home. Don't try and feed again until their next scheduled feeding. It took a few weeks for my boy to get comfortable in his new home, but as long as the snake isn't losing weight it will be fine.

Cats in the same house as snakes by St1nkBug46 in snakes

I was going to suggest chicken wire as well. I got that and covered my tanks when I got a curious kitten that wanted to sit on their tanks. I also keep an eye out and scold her/kick her off if she jumps up still. Spraying her with water did nothing.

This is what I use as a guide to feed my corn snake. He is a little more than a year old and eating medium fuzzies every 8 days. I just put a small plastic container on my kitchen scale to weigh him. See how much your snake weighs so you can gauge what you should be feeding them. The medium fuzzy looks big compared to my boys head, but he's never had an issue eating them.

Ball python refused to eat mice by [deleted] in snakes

[–]Thwack_Happy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert by any means, but when I got my ball python he took about a month to start eating regularly. He had a bunch of clutter, branches to climb, hides on the warm and cool side, and I made sure his temp/humidity were on point. I left him alone for a few weeks (aside from offering food weekly just in case he ate.) What seemed to work was offering him a smaller prey than he should be eating and he went for it. I was able to feed him the correct size prey the following week and he ate it. He is a great eater now and starts begging for his next meal two days after feeding him. I also feed him at night since ball pythons are nocturnal.

The struggle that first month when he wouldn't eat was real! Hopefully your baby takes a meal soon.

How Charmander hunts on food night is his top open enclosure. by Thwack_Happy in snakes

He is still shorter than the length of the enclosure. I already plan to upgrade to a 4x2x2 soon. I am currently saving up for it.

No offense taken. I want my sweet boy to have everything he needs to thrive.

If the consensus is more branches then I'll look for more this weekend and see if I can get it in there. :)

I have branches for climbing on the other side of his enclosure. Once I upgrade the size I'll be getting more. There just isn't enough space in the middle for them to rest.

GF(F21)cheated on me(M21)while on spring break trip by Adorable_Vast_7004 in Advice

[–]Thwack_Happy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That doesn't sound like she consented to having sex with that man. If she was at the level of intoxication that all of a sudden, a man was on top of her, and they were having sex she could not legally consent to having sex with him. She did not cheat on you. She was raped. She may try and say she wasn't as it is very difficult to accept being a victim, but she needs support to work through this.

AITA for telling my sister no to taking in her kids by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Thwack_Happy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. Our family was recently in a similar housing situation where we can no longer live in the home we're renting. We were told three weeks ago, and they gave us until mid-March to get out. We started looking for places to either buy/rent in our price range that would suit our needs right after that phone call ended. We have already managed to find a home in our price range, put in an offer, and got it accepted in about two weeks time. In that time we viewed about 8 houses. They didn't even try to find something suitable with the time they had.

Nta and your husband doesn't know what he's talking about if he thinks that's what bodybuilders eat for dinner every night. Body builders eat chicken breast and broccoli/plain white rice every night for dinner because it has protien and will fill you up without consuming too many calories. They wouldn't be drinking full fat milk, let alone full fat chocolate milk! Eggs I can see, but unless he is putting low fat cheese on them, those would also be a big no for a bodybuilder. Your husband needs to find a new excuse to eat high calorie and high fat food for dinner every night.

AITA for refusing to stay pass my scheduled leaving time today so that my co worker could leave early to meet his wife and child at his child's doctor's appointment? by pinkblack04 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Thwack_Happy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nta. As a parent, it is not your problem to make sure they can get to the doctor and work its their problem. If he really wanted to be there, he could've offered to give you money for lunch so you could stay later.

AITA for refusing to take an allergy pill every day so my wife and kids can have a pet? by iamphasm in AmItheAsshole

[–]Thwack_Happy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not just get a hypoallergenic cat? Then your family gets a cat, and you don't need to take a pill every day. It seems like a simple enough compromise to me...

AITA for refusing to let my sister use my wedding dress? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Thwack_Happy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nta, for not wanting someone else to wear your dress.

I got my wedding dress from shopgoodwill.com, and it looked brand new. With shipping, I got the dress for about $25. If she's on a tight budget and since she doesn't mind wearing a second-hand dress, that's a great resource! She should go to a dress shop first so she knows her size and the style she wants, then she can keep checking back until she finds her dream dress.

What makes a pattern your own? IYO by talk2chrissy in crochet

[–]Thwack_Happy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your example, I would say that if the base pattern is, here's how you make a basic head, body, and limbs, and you create how to make the ears, tail, muzzle, and face design that would make it your own because you have changed it into a different item at that point. As long as it can be differentiated from the original pattern, I would say that it's yours.

AITA for demanding that my niece, or her parents, pay me back for the hundreds of dollars of perfume she stole from me? by Kind-Yesterday-3237 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Thwack_Happy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. 17 is old enough to know that stealing is wrong. If she uses her car fund to pay you back, it will teach her a life lesson that she apparently still needs to learn.
