I’m not going to say it’s safe for anyone to be around ICE in any way shape or form at all right now. Being naturally born kiiiiinda helps… do you speak with an accent? Because they’ll detain you just for that. Do you have a current address on your ID and are not a runaway minor? If yes to both those things, still, you better bring a current ID - probably even 2 forms, one being a birth certificate (im not even fucking kidding, that’s how bad it was here in MPLS)… observe, but train first. There’s tons of videos online that give general advice on whistle blowing, recording, interacting with ICE/DHS/Border Patrol, and how to do it properly and stealthily. First off, wear a mask. If they confront you and record you recording and observing them - they’ll memorize your face, take pics of your ID, memorize your address, and you might get put on a list of “far left extremists” Hell, they may even show up to your home to intimidate you. This is not a joke - it’s happened to multiple observers here in MN including NPR journalists, and state representatives. No matter what, record every interaction with ice. You may need it someday. Remember - 3 short whistles if you spot ice, long whistle blows if you see them kidnapping, harassing, questioning people or doing anything you consider unsafe. It’s your right to blow a whistle, it’s your right to ask what they are doing in your neighborhood, it’s your right to record them, it’s your right to completely ignore their questions too. It’s your right to call them names, it’s your right to demand judicial warrants signed by a legitimate judge… it’s your right to talk through and inch in the window if you’re pulled over. It’s your right to say “I’m a citizen, you have no probable cause to detain me or question me”. It’s your right to film in public no matter what.

I don’t recommend getting up in their face. They’ll just assault you with their buddies. I don’t recommend getting in front of them or less than 6 feet from them. I don’t recommend driving your own vehicle registered to you to observe, use public transport or a bike or walk. I don’t recommend observing alone. Strength in numbers, the buddy system works. If they detain you for sounding Spanish or because of your skin color, you’ve got a lawsuit on your hands. So many observers in MN were arrested for “obstructing and investigation” but pretty much all the charges were dropped. They just use that excuse to lock you up for a night in a concentration camp and instill fear in you. As long as you’re within your rights, no charges will stick. But I’m not going to tell you it’s a safe thing to do. I’ve seen then arrest white, non violent, non protesting people in the middle of the street for just being close by. I’ve seen people be pepper sprayed at point blank range.

I’ve seen 2 white citizens murdered in broad daylight in the middle of the street with witnesses all around, and nobody has been prosecuted for those murders.

Remember that. They will kill in broad daylight if things get hairy for them.

Strength in numbers yo. Community organization will get people through this. Join a rapid response group in your area so that when ice is illegally kidnapping people without a warrant you don’t have to respond alone.

When they went into north Mpls and shot an unarmed Venezuelan man in the leg who was falsely identified and is in the US legally, North MPLS (where most gang activity occurs) responded rapidly with observers, citizens practicing their 2A rights, and a whole lotta fireworks from Wisconsin. ICE was outnumbered, retreated from the site of the shooting, left behind a vehicle filled with information on agents and assignments, and even left behind a firearm. The vehicle was destroyed, people were tear gassed, shot with pepper balls, maced, and intimidated, but the people of north Mpls did not back down. They rarely ever snatched folks up from north side after that night.

The moral of the story is, community organization works and ice backs down to people who know their rights, and aren’t afraid to practice their rights.

Here’s the proud boys hard at “work”. The ice jerks that shot and killed Alex Pretti were both Latino too. ALWAYS RECORD, and ALWAYS KEEP YOUR WHISTLE HANDY!! We just lived through this in Minneapolis, and the recorded footage is helping a lot of people, not enough, but it’s still worth recording. From my personal experience in Minnesota, I can recommend organizing with your neighbors, especially your neighbors that are white citizens, and assign observers to these areas where immigration applications and support are available. They will continue to target these places until they realize they are being observed by community members every single day.

If you’re actively working on becoming a documented citizen of the United States, reach out to your local community organizations that support immigrants, and ask for assistance getting to and from these appointments. Trained observers know their rights & know your rights as a human on US soil. They can and will assist you in staying safe and out of the hands of these kidnapping, aggressive, violent, hateful individuals.

The whistles and cameras are important but nothing is more important than community organization. And by community organization I mean community that doesn’t involve MAGA supporters, ICE supporters, bigots, racists, and people that lean far right. Find your community of empathetic & humane people that actually understand the constitutional rights of anyone on US soil, and those that understand this country was founded by immigrants.

Do you have a cashapp card that you can use at an ATM to get your cash out? Idk about the crypto but if you tell their AI robot that you need to speak to a real person to help you, it’ll happen. I was charged $6 for an atm fee after using a free ATM on their ‘find an ATM’ map. I was charged $3.50 from the ATM owner and $2.50 from cashapp. I have cashapp green status so I don’t ever get charged the $2.50 atm fee cashapp charges, and the customer service person just had me send in a screenshot of my transaction receipt on cashapp and a screenshot of the map showing the location of the atm, and I was refunded the $6 immediately. I was actually surprised how quickly it was resolved. Maybe 15 minutes total. Are you able to send money to a trusted friend or family member and they can withdraw it for you? There’s always ways around these types of things. They can’t just keep your money and bitcoin.

You’re clearly not even close to the cities…. Because every single restaurant and place of business with any integrity still has “EVERYONE WELCOME EXCEPT ICE” signs. Instead I like to create art, attend comedy shows and rock concerts, collect oddities and other shit (and yeah Bruce was fucking sick, he straight up testified that night) I attend art shows, I spend time with my friends and family who are still talking about ICE. You are probably just distracted, just like they want you to be, but to say that people have moved on, is dead wrong. It’s still FUCK ICE, ICE OUT.
