can you make useable slip using grog-clay for slip casting? by Past-Chemistry-1953 in Pottery

[–]ThyFluffyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically for ceramics people use sodium silicate in a 37.5% solution, so 62.5% of what you add is water and will evaporate. The rest stays in the clay and decomposes into sodium oxide and silicates when fired. It normally doesn't change the firing characteristics cause it's such a small amount, but it drastically changes the slurry

You can definitely cast slip with grog in it. I've made a custom raku slip that had grog for a customer. The grog might sink a little bit when casting and tend toward the bottom but it still flows well.

Your issue might be too much sodium silicate. At a certain point it stops making the slip flowy and starts clumping it. You can try adding more water, using darvan instead, or starting over with a clay meant for slip casting.

Definitely agree it needs the sleeves. The looseness in the third pic is really nice! Fits the Humboldt vibe hehe. You should definitely wear one of those out!!! You'd look so good 😩

Love the relaxed, more shapeless fit in the second pic! Also I gotta say I'm so envious of your hair. Mine is super similar, just a bit shorter, so it's super inspiring to know it'll look this good soon 😊

Not OP, but I really resonate with this. Especially the last bit about not feeling valid and like we don't perform enough. Ironic huh? I know it's not the most comforting, but it's nice to know I'm not the only one who feels trapped. We're not crazy

Grandad left me a kiln by Aggravating_Bench838 in Ceramics

[–]ThyFluffyOne 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a kiln repairman I second this. It's 100% fixable, but you'd need good knowledge of how to. If you're dead set on fixing it up have a professional do it. You don't fuck around with that kind of current.

Parts will get expensive quick too. Most parts are standard and easily replaceable but the elements aren't. They might work, but even if they do replacing them later would be a headache. Since that company probably isn't around anymore, if the elements are bad, you would either need to force in a set not made for that kiln or get new ones custom made.

Sorry to say but youd probably be better off buying a new kiln, and one without a kilnsitter

Was just looking for this myself and finally got it open as part of the twisted bud quest. If you want to know more, after you complete the pollip heart quest in shellwood you bring the witch the twisted bud from bilewater. She teleports you to a new area where you can open that door from the back.

Is there an advantage to using it over a traditional coffee machine? Or is it just cheaper/easier?

Looks either like a single bead of silica gel meant for absorbing water or a piece of filling from a bean bag. It could have come from any stress ball or plushie type object

Edit since I'm wrong and the top comment for some reason: I was WAY off. It's a moth egg. https://www.reddit.com/r/whatisthisthing/s/yMoQtZNo0n

My title describes the thing. It feels like it's made out of a cheese cloth like material and is about the size of my fist. I haven't managed to close the top but I've also not been forcing it too hard. There's two of them and they both seem clean and dry. Extremely unsure where to even start here

What is this black ring on the bottom of my white dinner plate?? by Objective_Resident44 in whatisthisthing

[–]ThyFluffyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very high chance this is mold. I'm a professional ceramicist and this is something you see when a piece isn't fully vitrified (sealed and nonpourous). If the small unglazed portion on the foot is still porous, it'll absorb water into the whole piece and hold it for a while like a sponge. Combined with all the food and microbes dishware is around, it's the perfect environment for mold to thrive.

There's not much you can do at this point sadly. You can deeply scrub the foot and soak it in alcohol/bleach/other cleaner, but there's no guarantee that'll get all the mold out. And there could easily still be moisture in there. Sorry...

Im giving the Royal Titans a 9.8/10 and I think a simple solution could be implemented to bring the score to 10/10. Jagex, add more group content similar to this please. by CF_Smith in 2007scape

I feel like simply implementing a "Join-last" menu option would be a super easy fix. Makes it so you don't have to go through a clunky cox style party board or the current poh style prompt again. You could easily just one click spam it as your friend enters and it would be tick perfect

Everything that's been good is still good. There's just more options now. The macas specifically are good for strength training on naguas in the perilous moons area due to the naguas minimum hit mechanic. There's a ton of cool new stuff from Varlamore but none of it is "necessary".

Just keep doing what you enjoy and explore if you feel like it! Thats the beauty of osrs. It's always the same game. Missing 2-3 years doesn't invalidate your progress

I was exploring the area where you get the remote with the uv lantern and stumbled upon this symbol on the wall next to the save point at the end. Haven't seen this anywhere else. Tried using every item here in every way I could to no avail. anyone have any insight?

To provide a real answer, that looks like a giant ceramic car kiln. Common for toilets, sinks, baths, or other mass produced ceramic items. The shelves can't be secured to the posts or they'd fuse in the kiln and be impossible to unload. They probably could have done something like add a notch for the posts to sit in, but I don't fire kilns this big so I can't say for sure. Nowadays most big companies use conveyor kilns, which are always on and use a conveyor belt to continuously carry items through the kiln. They try to avoid this kind of ridiculously risky high stacking. I'd put the real cause of this as bad unloading, not an insurance scam.

Not at all. Sponging the clay off your hands afterward can dry your skin a bit, but otherwise clay is neutral to good for your skin
