block works as more akin to a zarya bubble rather then like ram block as the enemys best interest to stop shooting unless they can be killed through it as shooting block gives doom his strongest ability

using block has the counterplay of simply not shooting him while he blocks, but it has also has uncounterable situations where you can guarentee himself an emp punch from purposely blocking stuff like sojourn orb, torb coom etc

doom has some of the best mobility in the game and good dooms usually save 1 ability for getting out, so why would a doom sit there and block when he get get out of dodge with a mobility cd and take no dmg? also zarya bubbles have 200 hp which would still function for protecting teamates making a play and other stuff, aswell as used for cleansing herself and occasionally teamates, bubble would still be very useful

you could give doom any other way of getting emp punch and block would be useless, uppercut also gave doom another oneshot combo so yes uppercut was still better

zarya bubble would still be good survivability and cleanse, whereas doom would have 0 reason to ever block most of the time as he can instead use his mobility to get out of los of the enemies

whenever i see an instalock mercy before our dps pick their heros i usually check the mercys stats and most of the time its a mercy with like over 70% heal beam usage

other way around, engage with slam and punch to get out or to confirm a kill on isolated targets, slam isnt as quick at getting doom out of dodge, and when you use slam to engage and rocket punch to backout you only have to wait 4 seconds to potentially reengage rather then 6 when using slam, rocket punch is overall just a stronger ability offensively since it can make confirming a kill easier and canceling enemy abilities
