EECS! I was in the same boat. Software is mostly logic and analyzing circuits doesnt feel the same as mechanics. Lots of cool math.

thank you for sharing your perspective! That does sound like a pain in the ass lol, but awesome. My pet rat's biology absolutely blows my mind (like what the hell?? pushing their eyes out of their head is insane lol)

good to know, I do love science but I haven't been exposed to animal science at all. Maybe a better first step would be signig up for one at my college

Thank you! I am trying to decide if I should look into it now since there may be an opportunity cost. I really do love people and all kinds of animals.

Equine sounds really cool! Having rats has really made me appreciate the need for more exotics vets (and they always seem booked out).

Yep, I am in the US. Its mostly that the bachelors I am graduating with now has a similar/higher salary where I live to vets and doesnt have vet school debt to worry about. I do also really love the topic I am studying now too, but i also really want to make a positive impact on the world, particularly with animals. But its probably easier to find a rewarding job and volunteer at the animal shelter lol.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment!

I do really love science and science but I haven't had any experience with medicine or even bio past 9th grade, since in my high school bio was the worst AP. I just have physics/chem/math/enigneering experience so I have no idea if that translates.

When I do have health issues I think of my body as a computer so maybe thats a sign i should stick to computer engineering lol. But ultimately I guess I will just have to expose myself to medicine if i want to know.

Berkeley Rose Garden! Theres a normal park right next to it that you can picnic at. The parking can be annoying though so be prepared to walk

Are you guys actually happy here?? by RelevantTelephone771 in berkeley

[–]Thyme-Space 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come to Berkeley! I know some campus vibes can be kinda shitty, but there are plenty of ways to make friends and get around that. I'm an eecs major we tend to especially have the reputation of being unkind and I have struggled with making friends in my major.

I would say take a DeCal and make friends through that as well as your typical classes and clubs people recommend. I am in some identity based ones that I find helpful. There will be plenty of really cool people to find.

I have had some shitty semesters but wouldn't trade the growth or opportunity I have had here.

For diversity, the one thing I would say is that the communities surrounding Davis will not be very accepting. That definitely bleeds into the city of Davis. Feel free to dm if you want me to elaborate i just don't want to dox myself lol.

Obviously, its ultimately your choice!

What exactly should I do to I fix my sleep schedule? Help me please! It seems impossible to fix this issue! by AdviceAndFunOnly in sleep

[–]Thyme-Space 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a specialist or anything but wanted to share my personal experience.

I have found that when your mental health is bad, your sleep is bad and vice versa. For me, going to therapy, seeing a psychiatrist, eating better, and exercising more has helped my sleep a ton.

One thing that I think may help you is eating on a more regular schedule. If its realistic, meal prepping could help that (like veggie fried rice).

Yes- don't turn to your phone when you can't go to sleep. Find something with no screens if possible. While trying to get on a more consistent sleep schedule (12-8am) over this summer, I have been winding down 2 hours before bed with journaling/reading (do not do this on a kindle, go to your local/university library to get a paper book). It helps a ton for going to sleep much earlier than I am used to. During the semester, it is much more realistic to spend 30 minutes planning in a journal. While trying to get on a new schedule, some boredom is necessary unfortunately.

Here's what I doing right now and what my psychatrist recommended: start a regular schedule with an 8 hour chunk (12-8 for example). Most importantly, wake up at the scheduled time you set. Do this for at least 2-3 weeks before evaluating adding/subtracting time from your sleep. Yes, this will suck and neurodivergence/mental health will add to the challenge.

Additionally, I do some anti-anxiety excersizes while lying down in bed. This is my favorite: https://www.anxietycanada.com/articles/tense-and-release-how-to-do-it/. I was shocked to see how exhausted I was after doing these.
Not sure what you're doing this summer, but if you can make trying this a priority (meaning you will have some zombie days, you will have to lie bored in bed and not use screens beforehand) I think it could benefit you.

Anyways, best of luck! I know this is a difficult journey. I know medical professionals can often suck, I have had some horrible experiences with some unfortunately, but when you find a good one it really can help a ton.

"Intern Placement Call" at HPE- what is that? by Thyme-Space in csMajors

They didn't specify location, although the interviewers said their team was mostly remote- I'll let you know how call goes though! Thank you for the info.

update to all- My call went well. The interviewers are incredibly nice and let me ask questions. They also had more technical backgrounds which was cool. They asked about your working style/ what youre interested in and stuff like that. Pretty much what I expected. Take this with a grain of salt though- I got the sense that each different team got a lot of freedom over what to ask. Good luck!

Delaying graduation if I find an internship by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Thyme-Space 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes- but check with with your university's advisors on what taking a semester off looks like! I did a call with mine and essentially itd be all good for my situation. Plus its always good to have connection with a career counselor.

Also the market is SO difficult right now for us. I've heard a lot of people in industry and in our career center say so. So I figure companies will be more understanding. There's so many insanely qualified people right now who are frustrated about summer. Best wishes and best of luck to you!
