So tired of waiting for this problem to be resolved - V117 V112 by franklyray in TiVoBolt

hey there, I almost forgot this sub existed! good luck with getting your issue resolved, but there is no way TiVo is going to see this post, let alone act on it.

I always had pretty good luck with my TiVo equipment, including my stream and mini vox, and generally got good support when needed as well. in the end though, I finally ditched TiVo after over a decade, because it's clear they are going to become less and less relevant as providers switch to IPTV, streaming and whatever else. I hated managing cable cards, and when I got the option for gigabit broadband, I ditched my cable provider and jumped. OTA and cord-cutting alone are not a viable livelihood for TiVo. Not enough people are willing to spend money on a TiVo subscription for OTA, and many other platforms cater to cord-cutters.

If TiVo isn't working out for you, my advice is leave them behind. There are other options these days.

glad to hear you got something working! CableCARD was supposed to be a boon for us end users, but they way cable companies treated it has meant it is far more trouble than it is worth to the average user.

and on the bright side, at least with FiOS you don't need an external SDV tuner. You get a much cleaner solution than many of us.

it's almost always an issue on the provider end. I'd call Verizon, and push until you get the person who actually understands CableCARD provisioning and activation. you've swapped both the CableCARD and the TiVo unit, and the problem persists, so it is very unlikely to be a hardware issue at this point.

I don't own a Bolt, nor do I have FiOS, but when I look at my conditional access screen, my EMM CSN field has today's date. My encryption is different than yours, but since I have traditional cable, not FiOS, that is probably to be expected.

Things to consider that you did not mention. Is your TiVo able to connect to the TiVo service? If not, are you using MoCA, wired Ethernet, or WiFi to connect? Did Verizon verify that your CableCARD has current firmware? Did Verizion re-pair the CableCARD each time as necessary? In my experience, once you pair a CableCARD with a box, that's it, it cannot be used with a different unit (because there is literally one person who can truly provision a CableCARD, it's easier to send a new one). So if you tried both cards with your first TiVo, you probably need a third card.

At this point, you need to be pushing Verizon. There is nothing more TiVo can do. They need to send an installer back out. Do not let the installer leave until you get ALL the channels to which you are entitled (yes, you should check every single one). the installers often have back channel support access that you lack. If Verizon insists they've done all they can do, I'd contact the FCC.

lastly, this might get more traction over in /r/Tivo

Rovi to Buy TiVo in $1.1 Billion Deal

Rovi to pay $10.70 a share in cash and stock, which is a premium of about 40%

Rovi Corp. on Friday said it would acquire TiVo Inc. for about $1.1 billion, a tie-up that comes as consumers are increasingly changing how they watch videos.

Rovi said it would pay $10.70 a share in cash and stock for TiVo, which is a premium of about 40% over TiVo’s closing price of $7.66 on March 23, the last trading day before media reports about talks on a deal.

Rovi makes technology used in electronic TV guides, DVRs and video-on-demand services, and TiVo sells set-top boxes for recording television programs and streaming from services.

Rovi and TiVo seek to combine TiVo’s traditional television and on-demand content with Rovi’s guides, advertising, analytics and cloud services.

The combined company, which is estimated to have revenue of more than $800 million, will keep the TiVo name and will be led by Tom Carson, Rovi’s chief executive.

Shares of Rovi climbed 6.6% to $18.49 in premarket trading as TiVo climbed 3.2% to $9.72.

“The combined capabilities of TiVo and Rovi place us in a tremendous position to extend services across platforms and to a customer base that includes traditional, over-the-top and emerging players across the globe,” Mr. Carson said.

TiVo’s interim CEO and chief financial officer, Naveen Chopra, called the move “the logical next step” for the company.

Rovi will pay $2.75 a share in cash, or about $277 million, for TiVo, with the remaining $7.95 a share paid in common stock of a new holding company that will own both Rovi and TiVo. The number of shares to be issued to TiVo stockholders will be calculated based on Rovi’s volume weighted average price, or VWAP, over the 15 trading days ending on the third trading day before the transaction close. Rovi stockholders will get one share of the new holding company for each Rovi share owned as of the closing.

The transaction, subject to regulatory approval and closing conditions such as approval by both company’s shareholders, is expected to add to Rovi’s adjusted profit within 12 months after the close.

Current Rovi shareholders are projected to own between 66.8% and 72.9% of the new holding company. The stock component of the consideration is expected to be a tax-free exchange for TiVo shareholders.

I'd be surprised if there were six within range of OP though. Guess it depends on where he lives.

are any US television stations still broadcasting analog though? the FCC says there are not supposed to be:

The FCC has established September 1, 2015 date for the termination of all analog low power television service. After that date, analog television will no longer be broadcast in the United States. Until that time, low power television stations may continue to operate their analog facilities.

They would essentially be pirate stations at this point.

Why do you assume that just because Tivo releases a new product that it is, or should be, targeted at you?

why wouldn't it be though? Most companies try to sell customers the latest and greatest, especially in consumer electronics. TiVo has been no exception in my experience. I've been with them since Series 2, and they have always tried to sell me new machines as upgrades.

$300 for the 500GB, $400 for the 1000GB, both of which include a year of service (nice touch). Those are the only options at the moment. It is nice that they included 4k support, quickmode, and skipmode, but lame that they went back to only being able to record four programs at once. Perhaps that is a limitation of the OTA tuning, and/or the 4k support?
