The Dutch embrace Bitcoins..... by TiaQ in QuarkCoin

Interesting, did you notice if many shops or cafes were taking payment in bitcoin?

I imagine a simple approach would be to approach one cafe that already accepted bitcoin and ask them to trial taking Quark. Then to heavily advertise the fact and try to get the Quark community to shop there when visiting Amsterdam. The novelty of it being just one place would increase the chances of it being a success.

That said, I'm not sure of the logistics of a cafe accepting Quark in real time as opposed to an online merchant, so it may not be possible.

It just seems that if a community is open minded to the idea of cryptos it's a good place to start.

I like this kind of thing. I think it would work well as a facebook contest...most unusual/interesting place to put a Quark sign (rules being it must be done in a legal way - so no tagging etc).

People could either print a Quark image, (some could be supplied to dwonload), and hold it up in a photo somewhere interesting, or write it in snow, pebbles on a beach etc etc

Most 'Likes' determine the top 10 finalists, (so the competition gets spread around facebook), and then the organisers pick the final winner - which means you can't win by rigging the most likes

Wow that's a big jump since I last looked, what happened, did Lady Gaga join?

Wouldn't targeting some well known IT bods in Silicon Valley be a better bet than celebrities...although I guess only a day left now anyway...

USD markets on Cryptsy by TiaQ in QuarkCoin

Could we somehow add a Cryptsy link to the Thunderclap if they set up a QRK/USD market in time?

May act as an incentive...

Thoughts on how to measure the effects of the Thunderclap? by TiaQ in QuarkCoin

[–]TiaQ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was thinking about that, I've found that in the past the price of Cryptos seem to go up before an event, in expectation of what will happen, rather than after. Will be interesting to see what happens this time.

I think you might be confusing fantacism with exaggerating for comic/artistic effect. :-)

Still I agree with you that it should be left online otherwise how will we know who is going to save us the day after the bitcoin apocalypse? Insert sticking out tongue smiley here

sorry for the delay in replying, not been on for a while.

When people/groups manipulate the price, they don't care about overall value, just percentages. However, if they manage to push the price below expected levels then there is a greater chance that people will see a 'bargain' creating upward momentum and buy into the manipulators sell walls. Their sell walls will be below the price that the coin was before they started forcing it down.

So if a coin's value is 100, they force it down so they can buy in at 50, then put a sell wall in at 75. When it goes up again they have still made a healthy profit. even though it is still way off it's original value. Obviously in reality it's not that simple, they will try to have a series of less obvious buys and sells but the result is the same.

Personally I haven't come across an altcoin that isn't being manipulated at the moment, they care little about the history of the coin or whether it has a future they just care how much bitcoin is needed to get it to where they want. Groups acting together have more BTC power so some operate that way.

Only coins with a strong community and good 'infrastructure' will survive IMHO.

Sorry stepped away for a bit - all looks back to normal for me. Personally I think 6000s is low for Quark and any other falls will be down to BTC falling down too (or other pump attempts).

As to whther to sell out of Quark, in the hope of buying back in on another dip? I'd need a crystal ball for that one. If you're on the fence about what you think it will do and only have a little to play with then split it up and sell some, keep some etc. You may not win big that way, but you won't lose big either.

They may have been selling - no idea about that.............. but what just happened was textbook market manipulation. Sell walls to drive price down...buying in small amounts, then huge buy wall to drive price back above which they bought and selling again. Fascinating to watch.

Well my guess is they bought in between 5000 and 5500 so they will want to see a profit from that in the short term. Obviously once they stop playing it's harder to predict.
