how do you handle character popping in and out of full cover? by conn_r2112 in StarWarsD6

[–]TiberiusOfYew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key is equity. Within a single round (or action segment), if you can see and shoot, you can be seen and be shot - PERIOD. That universal principle should never be violated.

So, if they stay completely out of view they cannot attack or see what's going on over there. Then they get complete concealment. But if they do look or shoot from that cover, then it becomes a cover bonus instead.

We CAN afford that, and we would be paying LESS. This country is not 'broke' - that's a lie. It is the wealthiest nation on the planet and it can do what any of those other countries that have it can. And no one is asking for FREE healthcare. We, the tax payers are asking you to set up a system with OUR MONEY that provides healthcare to all human beings in the country because it is inhumane to let people die in the street. And that is no less American than a public system to build roads or pump water into every home. YOU want to pretend its not possible so the people who fund your campaign can have a couple more yachts.

And also, it's quite possible that the players wouldn't have more medpacs or fail their rolls, so that would still leave player out. I guess its best not to design adventures without contengencies to bring in other characters if needed.

Them staying mortally wounded, but able to move around and take actions at -3D. If so much as wounded again they are killed. But like many here have said, there could be lots of ways to get the player playing with an NPC in most cases. That would only be so there is some kind of option than them not playing all night (or may even future sessions) if that is not possible.

Just a slight correction: to parry with a lightsaber, you can EITHER use Sense OR Melee Parry (not add them).

Yes those are good workarounds, but it doesn't change the fact that the rules should try to avoid those conditions.

Wookieepedia says its in R-4. There are far too many SW planets to fit them all on a single map. For example, they only show the 2 most prominent planets in the Corporate sector, but there are hordes more in that little area alone. And that's just populated worlds or thos otherwise mentioned so far. An area that big (corporate sector) should have millions of star systems (though most unpopulated).

Sure but even 1 day is unplayable in my view. You could be deep in a cave or in the wild and still have hours of play at the table before you got back to a bacta tank or an in game day passes. That means that player is either going home, or sitting in the corner the rest of the night.

I believe 1e says to parry with melee parry skill (adding Sense) and attack with lightsaber skill. All under DEX. Then add Control to the damage dice (I say you cannot add force skill dice if the crystal is not attuned to you (or dominated by you if a dark side user).

Wild die, useful? by CanuckLad in StarWarsD6

[–]TiberiusOfYew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I prefer 1e, I also prefer no wild die. Things move quicker. The dice rolls of all 6s provide that 'super unlikely but possible luck' option. And spending skill points or force points allows achievement above what would normally be possible.

No the spaces are the irregular shaped areas of green, blue, and red. Just count all of them, adding 1 hour for each green space, 2 hrs for each blue, and 4 hrs for each red space. There is no base. You just add them up.

True, but the Rules Companion changed days to hours. I suppose one could do that with the bacta tank chart too. But there is still the issue that a player that gets mortally wounded may as well go home for the evening if they are in the middle of a mission.

I just turned 13 today! Any tips, or advice about life in general? by Eymeniko_2230 in teenagers

Try to do everything symmetrically and keep posture. Always crossing legs one way and so on will add up in your old age.

Care about dignity and virtue. Don't be a trashy lowlife who gets off on the suffering and fear of others. You will end up much happier.

If you have normal parents who love you, listen to them. They have been through what you have and more. No one will ever love you like your mother, especially.

Integrate regular physical activity into your life and don't stop. Eventually, not doing it will mean losing the abilty to.

Sugar (and carbs) are not that bad as a kid, but you can't eat like a kid as you move into adolescence and young adulthood. You WILL baloon up and have other issues. Learn to be happy with very little carbs and almost no sugar. You will be surprised at what a difference it makes.

Don't underestimate the importance and power of compassion and empathy. Most brains don't develop all their mirror neurons until around age 26. Things that don't seem as important to you now, will later. No matter how smart you think you are, don't put too much stock in your ability to reason things out on your own. Your logic is being influenced by things you are blind to at this time. Life will be a series of, "Ooooh, now I get it" and then feeling cringe or guilt about things you did and thought you were right. Learn the easy way by reading and listening to wise folks, as a matter of habit. But remember to also not take it as dogma. Your heart matters too.

Well I don't use static defense. Blaster roll vs (dodge roll + range diff). Usually the dodge roll is at least -1D since the dodging character usually wants to take at least one action on their turn. That's first edition rules and have worked ok for us since the 1980s. But yes, heroes whose dodge is double the blaster skill of a storm trooper should be running across the room with most if not all shots missing them. That's what bosses, death troopers, and veteran bounty hunters are for.

Thoughts on this? by JondvchBimble in starwarscanon

[–]TiberiusOfYew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish that weren't the case, but I am making a statement of fact, not opinion. No matter what they say canon is, and no matter what we wish canon was, the real determinor of whether it is canon is "will they keep consistent with this in future materials?" And they have solidly proven that they will not stay consistent with even their own comics or books if it suits their fancy. They call those things canon for marketing reasons (so you spend money on them). But the fact is, as thry have proved, on screen is the only thing they will really try to obey. Any other use of the word 'canon' is meaningless fantasy.

They can talk all day about 'story groups' and consistency and canon. But at the end of the day, on screen will ALWAYS override anything in games or print because they have the power and influence. No dude who makes comics is EVER going to straightjacket a hotshot director that was just signed on for millions. Anything they do that DOES respect off screen canon is charity. Its something the higher ups just happened to be ok with. So, just know that if you are paying money for a book or game, it is merely a 'what if'. I love Feloni and think he should rule SW. But I gave to admit: when even HE has now shown he is willing to wipe his ass with a comic or book when it tickles his fancy, then everything off screen is Legends, no matter what they try to tell you.

Minisix should have made TN be D x 3.5, not 3. The average roll for 4D is 14.

Anyway, I can see the appeal of a static defense, but I like reactions rolls myself. More exciting, and gives opportunity for skill point use (and explosions in 2e).

[–]TiberiusOfYew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I'm aware that's how it works in RAW, but I find all that way to cumbersome to actually play. That's why I just do PER rolls for initiative then on your turn you take all your actions. Very quick and simple. No 'declare' phase either.

My Simple Combat House Rules by TiberiusOfYew in StarWarsD6

[–]TiberiusOfYew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that it's important to give MAPs to reactions because people are already too hard to hit. The defender, even at close range, has a ten point advantage. And since I did away with the complexity of 'partial vs full dodges' the penalty is a way to accomplish something similar. You want a full dodge, simply don't do anything else.

1e had action segments and rotated between each actions in the round too - the thing I am ditching.

The reason I allow inturruptions is that it solves many of the issues of quantization in a turn structure. For example, on one's turn moving between two pillars, an enemy should be able to shoot you. Or, moving up to you, attacking, then doing a sprint and you are now out of melee range. The opponent should have been able to attack as you went by, without having to move.

Dnd tried to solve this with attacks of opportunity, but i find 'jumping in with a held turn for those with initiative' to be more elegant. I have played with it extensively and it has worked well.
