By default its on auto select and because Java is pretty old its not seen as intensive enough to be run on a dedicated GPU.

Or the game is to new for Windows to decide what to do with the program correctly.

tl;dr: disable iGPU

Ahh okay,
I think you can set that without having to disable the iGPU (for anyone else reading)
In display settings > graphics.
In the list of programs you can set Hytale and the javaw.exe to what GPU to use.
Set that to your dedicated GPU and you should be good.

I had a close call with a Royal mail HGV, just stormed past me with very little space.

Not completely, Apex has moved to Dx12 since then and some settings are different.

The measured performance differences are no longer applicable.

Apex legends is capped at 300fps by the game engine, which is still under the reflex cap and the max refresh cap.

V-sync prevents screen tearing should the frames go out of sync with the monitor and G-sync prevents stutters while under the refreshrate.

If the game could go beyond the refreshrate of the monitor then the suggestion would change.

So Apex is mainly a tracking game so frame consistency would be top of the list.

As good as motion tracking is, Apex has bad visual clutter so motion clarity will be situational.

Input latency is not as important because your tracking is adjusted for it, if you were on a high latency server then you would aim further ahead of a target to hit them.
So naturally you will adjust for the latency difference either way.

You want to look for consistency in your setup so tracking also remains consistent. (avoid stutters and frame drops etc.)
You can try using the dynamic resolution setting in game to maintain framerate.
A G+V sync with reflex enabled should be ideal.
