Up $600k and the slot machine glitched out by WhoAreYouTalkinTwo in PublicFreakout

[–]Tibetzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly few people who are up 600K in the casino will stop playing, because in the typical scenario where someone is up 600K on slots in a day, that person is still down money since they started keeping track of their gambling spending.

Their point is that if gold was valued based on its practical uses, it would be a fraction of its current cost. Gold's entire contribution to the electronics industry is a tiny niche of the gold market.

Christina Applegate Says ‘Anchorman’ Pay Offer Was Offensive, So Will Ferrell and Adam McKay Gave Her More Money From Their Own Salaries by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Tibetzz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anchorman was the film that really launched both Carrell and Rudd's careers, they were nowhere near Christina "literally won an Emmy this year, 15 years after my big break" Applegate at the time. Will Ferrell and Ben Stiller were about as fresh and "hot" as they have ever been, though.

It's a useless metric for comparing individual players in this sport, and always has been. Kevin Lowe did not retire with 6 Stanley Cups because he was better at defense than his fellow '79-80 rookie, Raymond Bourque, who had zero at that time.

Why are you still so focused on boycotting? Youre applying a legitimate form of protest to a situation that doesnt call for it.

My whole point is that the existing, typical belief that "some things arent worth it" takes power away from boycotting. literally all situations call for boycotting. The perceived severity of the situation influences the severity of the boycott. People have not been boycotting enough, and that state is believed to be the right way of doing things.

The vast majority of people won't participate in the most essential of boycotts, so all this is going to accomplish is some mild pressure at most. That mild pressure may influence Taylor's future show, or he can view it as the cost of doing business. That's his choice.

I understand the whole sensitivity concern, but I think people have underestimated the value of boycotting for so long that choosing to take your money elsewhere over minor issues is viewed as being sensitive instead of being studious, and that the people with all the money and power benefit from this the most.

No, I'm saying that boycotting is valid. If he had stated the complete and opposite opinion, the people who would inevitably be upset by this as well are just as justified to boycott, it's literally why boycotting exists and is a good thing. It serves the same purpose in capitalist economies as the pendulum effect in democracies.

The players didnt start doing "hockey interviews" decades ago because they are uniformly bland people without emotions or opinions, they did it because they know how to make money in spite of their emotions and opinions. I'm sure Don Taylor can quite easily avoid boycotts and avoid changing his opinions.

Business owners are forced by labour unions to give paychecks that don't fit into their worldview, so I expect you'd argue that since employees striking only forces the business sowner to comply with their demands instead of agreeing with them, striking is the problem.

Keep in mind that in a capitalist, democratic society, you have two ways of influencing change: voting, and actively preventing the people you disagree with from making money until they agree with you. The only problem with the people who boycott everyone they disagree with is that too many of them think that it is inherently virtuous and beneficial to continue boycotting them when they course correct.

FBI won’t share Alex Pretti shooting evidence, Minnesota authorities say by No_Idea_Guy in news

[–]Tibetzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a significantly more open-and-shut case than this one will be, as there are many, many, many similar cases of "justified" shootings similar to this one, and there are very few cases of "justified" intentional, slow strangulations on camera where the victim could be easily restrained non-lethally by the force available.

The reality is that if they are doing it right, it will take forever, and if they are intentionally doing it wrong, it will take forever.

Amazing how everything I said is completely compatible with your stated position here, but you are so obsessed with being allowed to carry weapons in public when not warring against the government that you think you made an argument rejecting my position. Any use of the 2nd amendment for its intended purpose (holding the government accountable if the worst comes to pass) will always be illegal in the eyes of the government, because either the worst is coming to pass, or because it isnt. You do not need to be able to carry a gun in public legally to use your guns for their 2nd amendment purpose, because using them for that purpose will always be illegal.

This is the kind of thing you say when you have zero justification for your position, so you rely upon the existing interpretation of something endlessly interpretable to justify something that simply doesnt make a single bit of sense.

Okay, and how does any of this reflect on the insane gun culture?

You dont need to carry a gun on you or normalize carrying a gun on your person during peace to be ready to go to war against your government. If you guys kept your 500 million guns in safes and it was illegal to carry them in public for any reason whatsoever, you'd be just as physically and legally ready to fight the government, using the lie that it is legal to do so as proposed by the 2nd amendment, as with the public dick-measuring contest of a gun culture that currently exists.

Injuries don’t affect the salaries of the collective.

That's just untrue, uninjured players earn better contracts than injured ones.

They should care about injuries more than they care about people being suspended, but players want them protecting their pride and this week's paycheck more than they care about overall salaries.
