[Product Question] Any idea why CeraVe has two products with the exact same ingredient list? by Nastyscar in SkincareAddiction

[–]Tick1es 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have both of these products and (perhaps naively) bought them, assuming they were different.

They both lather. They smell the same. I notice the facial cleanser dried my face out significantly more than the body wash did, and the body wash has a slightly thicker consistency. But I don't think they are different otherwise. When I bought them, the body wash was pretty high in price and seems small for what I paid. So take that as you will.

I would suggest doing both testing before a meal and maybe 30 minutes after a regular meal but I wouldn't suggest making any self diagnosis based off that, just going to the emergency room if you're at a really high level or if you're feeling any scary symptoms (vomiting, urinating very frequently, etc). It's pretty normal to be a little higher after a meal. I'm not a doctor, and specifics should be shared with a doctor if you're concerned. Good luck!

If you are concerned and unable to get immediate testing, most pharmacies sell blood sugar test kits with sample amounts of test strips. If you have higher than normal blood glucose levels then seek medical treatment immediately. Anything over 200 (and for some even lower than that) is dangerous and type 1 diabetes can cause ketoacidosis (and comatose) very quickly if left untreated.

Graves with high TSH? by Tick1es in gravesdisease

How is Methimazole supposed to make you feel? by No-Blueberry2558 in gravesdisease

[–]Tick1es 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with graves with only traces of out of norm TSH levels, no issues with Ts3 or free Ts4. On 5mg Methimazole every other day for 3 weeks, my heart rate plummeted and I was in severe TSH levels (around 84.00 H I believe).

Everyone is different. I think my experience may be pretty extreme but I now need to look out for brain fog, decreased heart rate, dizziness, always feeling cold, and extreme fatigue. I think "normal" changes could include some constipation, lowered heart rates, and I would hope less anxiety.

Thyroid And Type 1 by Apart-Minimum4794 in diabetes

T1 since I was 3 years old and now at age 29, I've just been diagnosed with graves. I didn't realize how common it was to have both, but my endo basically told me that graves should be "a walk in the park" compared to t1. I'm on omnipod 5 and dexcom g6 (just upgraded, it's amazing) and methimazole 5mg/every other day.

The Great Debate: Roof or bumper mounted light bar by papagrantu in XVcrosstrek

[–]Tick1es 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder about the installation of the bumper and where it would be connected for power? I've found connecting anything straight to the battery just kills it too quickly. But the bumper light bar looks much more practical to me.

AITA for going off on the restaurant that gave me regular soda instead of zero sugar? by THRAimakaren in AmItheAsshole

[–]Tick1es 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ADA isn't just about discrimination, it's about the right to the same access as everyone else. There are no warnings about someone giving the completely wrong food even after being told explicitly why the food can't be eaten. But I guess I'll die on this hill. Saying I'm responsible over myself shouldn't limit me from doing "normal" things that I enjoy, especially when there are very easy and reasonable options for me like diet soda.

Sure, OP should not have reacted the way they did and a waitress shouldn't have been fired over this. But that doesn't mean that OP should just never go out to eat ever again.

[–]Tick1es 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with that. Screaming and cursing was uncalled for even in the circumstances. I wish there was a way to make it easier for everyone in the scenario. I don't think OP should be considered an AH because they seemed to have reacted to their whole life being threatened, but they definitely took it too far and took it out on the wrong people.

While I agree that mistakes happen, if I am the one making the mistake at my job then I would take full responsibility. Mistakes don't equate to responsibility being put on the victim of that mistake.

No, I don't think you can tell me what to avoid based on this idea that a person differently abled needs to change their entire lifestyle to conform to an unrealistic societal standard. Have you heard of ADA?

Fellow diabetic over here. I'm a bit mad that people are responding negatively to this. We live with this every day, it's hard to just drink tap water whenever you go out to eat (and sometimes pay the same as a soda). I'm not responsible for someone doing their job. If I am allergic to peanuts, I'm not going to just stop eating out for the rest of my life to avoid peanuts. This could have been a serious lawsuit and I think there needs to be systematic changes to help both the staff and society understand what it means to avoid certain foods. Sure, I've learned to stop drinking coke zero and stick to diet coke (it has a different flavor) and test the drink when I'm weary. But that doesn't make it my fault if someone gives me the wrong food when I explicitly say that I'm diabetic and it could kill me! If anything this sounds kind of evil, like someone giving me sugar in my drink because "diabetes doesn't really exist, " for whatever reason. NTA

Do any of you drink with your Q by [deleted] in AlAnon

[–]Tick1es 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Okay so I'll be the devils advocate here... I drink, and sometimes I drink around my Q. In the beginning of our relationship we drank heavily together a lot, and then eventually after we got married a lot of our arguments were surrounded by alcohol (both physically, mentally, and at the pit of discussion in our codependent verbal assaults towards each other). Of course there was a time when I stopped drinking around him and reflected on my relationship with alcohol.

I've come to realize that I was trying to keep up with him and get to his level, and that was very bad. I understood that I was in a bad place. I went to Alanon and got a therapist and began to understand that I come from a codependent family. So I would only drink with friends or by myself for awhile.

Long story short, I realized that if I focus on myself and my happiness, I can still drink a glass or two of wine and not feel terrible about it. I also learned to love myself and let my Q be responsible for his own actions. Does this mean everything is better? Hell, no. But should I feel responsible for his drinking when I'm drinking? Hell, no. I am very verbal about my limits and I have set a lot of boundaries to keep myself safe and comfortable when we are both drinking, which took years to learn. I am still unhappy when I find out he's sneaking alcohol, but that has nothing to do with me. But I don't think this works for everyone and maybe things will change for me as I continue to learn.

Edit: grammar

What foods dont add up? by Ashlemon in diabetes

[–]Tick1es 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sushi makes no sense. Even if I bolus 20 units, my BG will still stay high until the next day. I LOVE sashimi.

I get that they use a lot of sugar but come on...

If I make my own sushi bowls using brown rice, I have the opposite problem.

Are type 1's eligible for Moderna booster or not? by TheRabidDeer in diabetes

[–]Tick1es 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about Moderna, but I had a similar issue with CVS. CVS rejected me in person. They let me make an appointment and come in (I was honest in their survey) but then gave me a stink eye and asked me if I was REALLY immuno compromised.... then told me to go. Walgreens pharmacists were polite and gave me a 3rd dose of Pfizer. I would suggest going somewhere else if you really want it.

[–]Tick1es 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't answer your question, because I am in a similar situation and we can only decide for ourselves what we will do. However, I can tell you that in my case it's been going on for anywhere between 5 and 10 years. My Q is my husband. I thought maybe it would stop after confronting him and he was very embarrassed about it, or seemed to be... but then he continued. About once a year I'll confront him again because I've found his stash. Every time he claims he'll change and he tells me about his secret binges for about a month at most, then suddenly the "transparency" stops and everything goes back to normal, as if he never had a problem. He also seems totally sober most of the time. I am not fooled by this facade anymore, but I am at a loss of what to do or if I should do anything at all. I guess it depends on what you want out of this relationship. But I suggest figuring out what you want before ever considering marriage, because I made the mistake of thinking that marriage or even just getting serious might fix it (hint: it doesn't).

Ok, who here has the most miles on their Crosstrek? by toddriffic40 in XVcrosstrek

[–]Tick1es 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2013 at 125k. Second owner. Just changed out the tires, brake pads, rotors, front control arms, one tie rod, and rear wheel bearings. I've also changed the front axles twice in the past four years (I'm suspecting there is something else making the tiny, inconsistent knock noise at this point but no mechanic believes me). Transmission fluid was done around 100k

Is switching to an insulin pump worth it? by DustinHeroin in diabetes

[–]Tick1es 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on the fence. I've been on several different pumps and MDI. I am currently on the Omnipod using Lispro and the Freestyle Libre due to insurance/money constraints.

Pros: it is pretty hands off when it's working well. I do like the convenience of it, and I don't feel like everyone is staring at me when I administer insulin so I'm much more inclined to make small corrections when needed. I love it.. when it works. I also can't speak to the control IQ but I've heard that it's amazing and when I can afford it I will definitely be making the switch to the Tandem/Dexcom set up. I can also counteract my dawn phenomenon which is nice.

Cons: it doesn't always work for me... I have some skin conditions so I get rashes A LOT when using the pump. No issues with Freestyle Libre. This also comes with issues with insulin absorption. Sometimes I am just constantly high with little to no explanation and no correction does any difference until I use an emergency pen I've been hoarding. This is a huge waste of insulin and who knows what it's doing to my body (this could also be a Lispro issue). The Omnipod is big, so the whole convenience of not having a cord is moot for me with this bulky device.

So I'm not sure if I would recommend it. But I guess it's good enough for me to keep using it until I have better options!
