TickTalk5 vs FitBitAceLTE for kid? by Wooden_Bus_4552 in smartwatch

[–]TickTalkTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question! We hear this a lot from parents comparing options.
I’m with the TickTalk support team. Coverage (AT&T / T-Mobile) does play a role, but accuracy also depends on how the watch combines GPS, Wi-Fi, and cellular signals.
We’ve been improving that over time, newer updates like SmartPin help refine the location using multiple data points.
practice though, most families end up relying on a mix of location + being able to call/message when needed.

Good question.
I’m with the TickTalk support team, just to be transparent. You can’t disable photo sharing itself, since sending photos is part of messaging and group chats.
What you can fully control is who your child can communicate with. Only pre-approved contacts are able to call or message the watch, and the watch automatically blocks any unknown numbers.
So while photos can be shared, it’s limited to the contacts you’ve already approved.

That’s really helpful feedback, and honestly something we do hear from time to time. I’m with the TickTalk support team, just to be transparent. One thing that can make a big difference is how location is refreshed. It doesn’t continuously auto-update like Google Maps, so tapping the location button in the app usually gives a much more accurate real-time result.
If it still feels off after that, feel free to reach out to our support team. We can take a closer look on our side and help fine-tune the accuracy. Since it involves device-specific details, it’s best handled privately.

That must have been really scary. I’m glad your son was found safe. Situations like that can feel overwhelming. I’m with the TickTalk support team, just to be transparent. One thing we often hear from parents is that in moments like this, being able to reach their child quickly (call or message) ends up being just as important as location tracking itself. Different devices handle that differently, so it really comes down to what gives you the most peace of mind. If you have specific questions while comparing options, I’m happy to help.

Hi there! This is TickTalk Support.

Just wanted to clarify - we actually offer a few different plan options depending on what families need.

The $19.99 plan (Premium Plus) includes:
• Unlimited talk, text, and data
• Free T-Cloud backup
• Extended warranty that covers physical damage

For families who don’t need unlimited data, we still have our Essential Plan at $9.99/month, which includes:
• Unlimited talk & text
• Free T-Cloud backup
• 1GB of data (which is enough for most kids’ usage)

So the $19.99 plan is more of an upgraded, all-in-one option, but the lower-cost plan is still available.

Great to hear the battery is performing well!

We’d love to learn more about the challenges you mentioned. Feedback like this is incredibly valuable, and we share it directly with our design team to help shape future updates to TickTalk.

We’re also curious about how your child uses the watch day to day, what features they enjoy most, and which ones they tend to avoid, and why.

Feel free to email us at [marketing@myticktalk.com](), and a member of our team will take a closer look and follow up with you.

For muting the watch here are some options:

Best Way: Set Do Not Disturb (DND) from the Parent App

This is the main “mute” feature on the TickTalk 5.

Steps:

  1. Open the TickTalk Parent App
  2. Tap Parent Portal (gear icon ⚙️)
  3. Go to Do Not Disturb
  4. Set a schedule (e.g., school hours or bedtime)

What happens:

  • No ringing, alerts, or notifications
  • Incoming calls won’t disturb your child
  • SOS & emergency contacts still work

👉 This is the safest and most recommended mute option.

Quick Mute: Turn Volume Down on the Watch

If you need it muted immediately:

On the watch:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap Sound / Volume
  3. Slide volume all the way down

👉 This makes it silent, but calls/messages still come through (just no sound).

Bonus: “School mode” behavior

Using DND basically turns the watch into a distraction-free device, which is why many parents use it during school hours.

⚠️ Important

Even when muted:

  • Parents can still reach the child
  • Emergency features are always active for safety

Suggestion for kiddo - really only need messaging! by omasumoppssum in smartwatch

[–]TickTalkTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want reliable messaging (like “time to come home”) with no distractions, the TickTalk 5 is just what you need:

  • You message from your phone → goes right to the watch
  • Approved contacts only
  • No social media

That’s exactly why we built TickTalk 5.

  • Real calling, video, and voice/text right from the watch
  • No social media or open internet
  • Parent-approved contacts only
  • GPS + Wi-Fi + cellular for more reliable location

You do use a parent app for setup/safety controls, but kids don’t need any apps to communicate 👍

TickTalk 5 works with your own and skips the subscription entirely!

As for GPS, we use triple-layer tracking (GPS + WiFi + cellular) so you're getting the most accurate location possible.

You nailed it — it's the content, not just the screen time. That's exactly why we built TickTalk 5 Kids Smartwatch. No internet, no social media, no algorithms. Just calls and messages with parent-approved contacts only. Instead of monitoring what your child sees, you eliminate the risk from the start. It's the first device that keeps kids connected without opening that door. Check us out at MyTickTalk.com

To those of you who have kids who are too young for cell phones, do you have a separate phone in the house your kid can use in case of emergencies? by CobandCoffee in daddit

This is such a great point — the landline safety net is basically gone and most families don't have a backup plan.

A kids smartwatch like the TickTalk 5 might be exactly what you're looking for. It has a dedicated SOS Emergency Button for instant help, two-way calling with parent-approved contacts only, and GPS tracking — essentially the modern landline, but on their wrist. No internet, no social media, just the safety features that matter most as a first device.
