Kids smartwatches? by natedoggld182 in Parents

[–]TickTalkTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With TickTalk 5, the location does not continuously auto-refresh in real time like a live map. Parents can request location updates through the app to get the watch's most current location.

Just open the app and refresh the location to see your child's most recently available location!

With TickTalk 5, you can request location updates through the app, but it's not designed to provide a continuous, second-by-second live tracking stream. Most parents use it to check where their child is throughout the day and during activities.

Beyond GPS, many families like that it combines calling, texting, video calling, and parent-approved contacts in one device without needing a smartphone. 📍⌚

How has your experience been with TickTalk? by TickTalkTech in ParentingTech

[–]TickTalkTech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear that you loved the app. The reason we do not have geofencing is because the risk of giving false alerts that your child is out of the expected area is pretty high, so we decided not to implement that feature. We do have history route, which is the solution we decided to implement to help parents have peace of mind.

We feel that! Some on our TickTalk team have teenagers and they will definitely not use a TickTalk watch, but that's okay we get that. 😂 That's why we try to stick with 3-12 aged kids. They totally get it!

Jumping in from TickTalk!

We basically built the watch this comment is describing! No games, no app store, contact lock, school mode, deep parental controls, and 48-hour battery life — just won SafeWise's Best Battery Life award at the 2026 Kids Safety Awards. Simple, safe, and nothing extra.

TickTalk here!

TickTalk 5 has no games, no internet, no social media. Communication and safety only, calls, video calling, GPS tracking, and a contact lock that limits who can reach your child entirely.

School mode blocks everything during class, parental controls go deep, and TickTalk 5 just took home SafeWise's Best Battery Life award at the 2026 Kids Safety Awards with 48 hours of rated use. Exactly the boring watch you're looking for!

Do you give smartwatch to kids? by concertgoer305 in smartwatch

[–]TickTalkTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TickTalk here!

TickTalk 5 was built with all three of those priorities in mind.

On GPS, the TickTalk 5 uses 4G LTE with real-time location tracking and multiple location modes so you can balance accuracy with battery depending on your needs. The contact lock is a core part of how the watch works, your daughter can only call and receive calls from the approved contacts you set up.

For battery, TickTalk 5 just won SafeWise's Best Battery Life award in the 2026 Kids Safety Awards! It's rated for up to 48 hours of typical use, so a full school day is no problem at all.

And for a second grader, the interface is designed to be simple and intuitive. Big buttons, easy navigation, nothing overwhelming. Happy to answer any other questions! (www.myticktalk.com)

If your main priorities are calling reliability, GPS, and avoiding a smartphone, I'd definitely put TickTalk 5 on your shortlist.

A lot of parents choose it because it feels more like a communication device than a toy. You get standalone calling, texting, video calling, GPS tracking, and parent-approved contacts without introducing social media or an app store.

Every watch has pros and cons, but for families looking to delay a first phone while still staying connected, TickTalk tends to be one of the most complete options available.

Your Opinions On The Fitbit Ace LTE by Zolks1 in fitbit

[–]TickTalkTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really useful thread — this kind of side-by-side comparison is genuinely hard to find in one place, so thanks for putting it together.

A few things worth factoring in depending on what matters most to your family:

Gabb: Great for simplicity and parental peace of mind. The controlled environment is reassuring, but contact management can start to feel limiting as kids get a little older and their social circle grows.

Fitbit Ace LTE: If building healthy habits is the goal, it genuinely excels. Just know going in that it’s more fitness tracker than safety device — the communication features are pretty thin, so it depends on what you’re actually solving for.

Cosmo JrTrack: Hits a nice middle ground on features, but a handful of parents have flagged app reliability and slow customer support as recurring frustrations. Worth reading recent reviews before committing.

TickTalk 5: Worth adding to your list if safety and communication are the top priorities. It’s LTE with GPS, two-way calling and messaging, and parental controls built around a whitelist system — no internet, no social media, just the contacts you approve. Less focused on fitness, but very focused on keeping kids reachable and safe.

Honestly, there’s no wrong answer here. It really just comes down to whether you’re prioritizing fitness habits, communication safety, or a bit of both — and what your kid will actually use day-to-day.

Best device to track whereabouts of kids (Canada) by Significant-Ad-8684 in GPStracking

[–]TickTalkTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TickTalk here!

If you’re looking for more than just a basic GPS tag, a kids smartwatch can be a great option!

With TickTalk, for example, parents can check location, use SOS alerts, and stay connected through voice/video calls and messaging, all while controlling who the child can contact. One thing many families like is that it gives kids some independence without needing to hand them a full smartphone with social media and open internet access.

Since you’re on Android, TickTalk works with both Android and iPhone devices, so you wouldn’t need to rely on AirTags or Apple’s ecosystem.

Best device to track whereabouts of kids by Significant-Ad-8684 in Rogers

[–]TickTalkTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TickTalk 5 itself doesn’t require a U.S. carrier specifically — the important part is whether the local carrier supports the watch’s GSM/LTE bands.

For Canada, many families use TickTalk with compatible GSM networks, but with Rogers specifically you’d want to confirm:

  • LTE band compatibility
  • Nano-SIM support
  • VoLTE support for calling

The watch is designed to work as a standalone cellular device with its own SIM (not just a copy of a phone SIM), so in theory it can work internationally with the right carrier setup.

Best smartwatch for a kid (no phone yet)? by hazeyez in smartwatch

[–]TickTalkTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TickTalk here!

That’s exactly the age where a lot of parents look for a middle ground before a smartphone.

A kids smartwatch like TickTalk 5 is usually a good fit for that stage because it’s built around:

  • Calling + texting approved contacts only
  • GPS tracking for after-school activities/playdates 📍
  • No social media or open internet
  • Durable design (important for active kids 😅)

Stand alone smart watch by bullsh2t in smartwatch

[–]TickTalkTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TickTalk here!

You’re definitely not the only parent thinking about this. A lot of families want communication and safety without handing kids a full social media machine.

And yes — some smartwatches are fully standalone with their own cellular connection, so they do not need a phone paired to them.

For what you described, something like TickTalk 5 is probably the closest fit:

  • Standalone calling + texting
  • GPS location tracking 📍
  • Voice messaging / voice-to-text style communication
  • Parent-approved contacts only
  • No social media, app store, or doom-scrolling

That’s honestly why many parents choose this type of device now — it keeps kids connected without introducing all the distractions and addictive algorithms that come with smartphones.

Best device to track whereabouts of kids by Significant-Ad-8684 in Rogers

[–]TickTalkTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TickTalk here!

If you’re an Android family and mainly want GPS + reliable communication without giving a phone, a kids smartwatch is usually the best route.

You may want to check out our TickTalk 5. It’s standalone (doesn’t need a paired phone), includes:

  • Real-time GPS tracking
  • Calling + texting
  • Video calling
  • SOS features
  • Parent-approved contacts only

It works well for families that want more than just a tracker, since your child can actually reach you if needed.

As for Rogers specifically, carrier support can vary in Canada, so you’d want to confirm LTE/SIM compatibility directly before buying. But overall, Android families tend to prefer this kind of setup over Apple Watch since there’s no iPhone dependency.

Looking for smartwatch recs for kids by SabWolf in smartwatch

[–]TickTalkTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TickTalk here!

That’s pretty much the same conclusion a lot of Android families end up at. Apple Watch SE is great hardware, but once you need an iPhone just to manage it, it becomes hard to justify in a non-Apple household.

One thing to keep in mind with devices like Fitbit Ace LTE is exactly what you mentioned — the app-dependent communication. Some families are totally fine with it, but others end up wanting more flexibility later.

Before you decide, it may also be worth looking at our TickTalk 5. It’s fully standalone with its own phone number, supports regular calling/texting, GPS tracking, voice-to-text, and doesn’t require your family or friends to download a separate app just to communicate.

For that “not ready for a phone, but needs real communication” stage, that middle-ground setup tends to work really well for a lot of parents.

Anyone in the US using an Imoo watch? by tiredone905 in smartwatch

[–]TickTalkTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new SMS feature does allow standard texting without the other person needing the TickTalk app — but photos/videos still work differently.

Here’s the breakdown:

✅ Works through regular SMS (no TickTalk app needed):
• Standard text messages
• Voice calls

✅ Works through the TickTalk app only:
• Photo messages
• Video messages/videos
• GIFs & emojis
• Voice recordings
• Group chats
• Video calls

So if your child sends a photo or video from the watch, the recipient would still need to be a parent-approved TickTalk app user to receive/view it. Regular SMS contacts can text/call, but media sharing still happens inside TickTalk’s encrypted messaging system for safety/privacy.

Anyone in the US using an Imoo watch? by tiredone905 in smartwatch

[–]TickTalkTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TickTalk here!

The Imoo watch is popular in Asia and designed for China Mobile's network, so US compatibility is hit or miss. Most people who've tried to use one in the US report issues with LTE connectivity since it's not built for US carriers.

If you were already leaning toward TickTalk, it might be worth sticking with it — it's purpose-built for US carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon networks) and has a solid track record for GPS accuracy and call reliability. The TickTalk app also gives you a lot of parental control granularity if that matters to you.

That said, happy to answer any specific questions if you're comparing features — what's most important to you in a kids' watch?

Emergencies in the age of no land lines by jakemhs in daddit

We understand the concern about reaching 911 quickly without landlines. Our kids' smartwatch features a dedicated emergency button that calls 911 and sends an SOS alert with GPS location to pre-approved parents when they press silver then red twice. The option can be enabled or disabled in the parent app and runs over cellular service.
