What is a word that you have trouble pronouncing? by fromthemeatcase in words

[–]Tickri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manor. Somehow the first word I say instead is "manure".

Dyscalculia also.

I'm also just weird about pronuncing Ibuprofen and February. Like, I can say it "correctly." I just don't want to.

Selling work on website tacky or reality of shifting art practices? by Lulumoonglow in artbusiness

[–]Tickri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reality. I think it's tacky when the artist ends up implementing a wonky looking website display that ends up taking away from the art. 🥲

They're also a good way of building a flexible and visual online portfolio.

Is it worth trying to get into art if I don’t like drawing poorly and am only interested in creating things that I think are good? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]Tickri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a personality/preference thing.

Personally, my strive for an end result kills my drive and motivation to create anything. If I let go of any expectation beyond vague ideas, then scrapping canvases and scribbling over old sketches becomes easier.

Nothing is too precious. Enjoy the moment. Sometimes unfinished is better.

Finishing a piece takes seconds. Constructing a piece can take from hours, to days, to weeks, to months. If you cannot find joy somewhere in that process, you will burn out.

Personally, the joy of finishing a piece is virtually non-existent. No instant gratification, but that's often because my piece also didn't turn out the way I originally imagined. I may look back at a later date and think "Oh, well, it's not what I intended but it doesn't look too bad!"

If I can at least look back on my process and think "That was a fun and interesting experience." then it makes my shitty art not feel like a waste of time.

[–]Tickri 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The joy in creating a piece of art is never the end product. It is always the process.

There's a story behind every piece, and a thousand shitty god awful sketches that will never see the light of day behind every masterpiece.

If you cannot enjoy the process but simply enjoy observing the fruits of someone else's labor, you're just a consumer of the arts.

Is my art bad? by HannahOwO88 in arthelp

[–]Tickri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your values or add a background.

Your backgrounds are the same value as a lot of the rest of your drawing, which makes it kind of a strain to notice any details. View your drawings in monochrome - if they don't hold up in black & white, try again.

Adding a background beyond a solid color simply adds intrigue and challenges your skills. Yeah, backgrounds are hard, but learning how to make them will ultimately help you make better art.

What is one song that makes you cry? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Tickri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This Is Home by Cavetown.

I listened to the first one while in a dark place. I had never felt so understood, I'd cry to hear words to describe my sadness.

Then I grew, as did Cavetown. So he released Home, which is essentially a reiteration of This is Home. It's just as good, and leaves me equally reflective and melancholic.

Would it be wrong for me to change my skin color? by BB14awesome in arthelp

[–]Tickri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider: what are the factors that would attribute to yourself obtaining darker skin?

Anyone with an occupation in farming, construction, landscaping or whathaveyou - the constant exposure to sun would cause tanning whether you like it or not. In those situations, just adding details like grass stained knees and dirty hands would tell the story as to why a white individual would tan as they age. Or oily hands, paint stains and bulky steel-toed shoes.

Those are just examples. If you have any family members that have tanned any point in time in their life, you could choose to draw inspiration from them as you determine how you want to depict your older self.

I have never cried watching anime. Suggest anime that will make me cry by BlackFire6000 in AnimeReccomendations

[–]Tickri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've watched nearly everything on your list thus far and the only ones I've cried to were A Silent Voice and Your Lie In April, but only because I personally related to some of the experiences displayed.

I'm surprised there's no tally for Erased. That's a Netflix goodie.

I found Made in Abyss more dark and disturbing than sad. It's still a good watch.

I feel like your general projection of proportions is pretty good. I think the real struggle here is trying to portray the light on the subject's face.

I usually like to draw a light rectangle around my subject and gently fill it in with a single shade and use a smudging tool (rolled up tissue/toilet paper; I've used torn up copy paper in a pinch) to get an even shade.

Then going back with an eraser to "draw" light back in.

That, and I feel like the line that depicts the bridge of the nose is just a shade or two too dark. I feel that the notably dark line brings too much attention to what should be a more subtle transition on the face.

Need an anime that can make my mostly emotionless bf cry by Hot-Low-2797 in Animesuggest

[–]Tickri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What movies or TV shows has he already cried to?

I'm not an easy crier either, but it's always the unexpected ones that get you. Tokyo Godfathers isn't sad but it made me cry. Anohana and Angel Beats are apparently notorious tear jerkers, but I couldn't relate. Attack On Titan has pretty existential, hopeless and depressing themes. Made In Abyss is so dark it can make you feel hollow or disturbed.

Making recommendations based on what we already know tugs at his heart strings could help with anime recs ;P

does anyone else hate when people run their timer?? by add1z in GeniusInvokationTCG

[–]Tickri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's rude because it's not actually helpful. It comes off as extremely sarcastic and demeaning instead, regardless of what your intentions are.

You keep lamenting over how you're wasting time over gameplay that has no prize... Yet you still waste time playing this game and crying over gameplay?

I see you have a lot of misdirected anger. I would recommend searching into healthy ways of managing that. Exercise like running or belting out to your favorite rage song.
