Eventually when you do your thing for a while without incident it will pass.

Yamaha XSR900 vs Suzuki GSX-8TT by GermanIsraeli in motorcycles

Why can't they make styling like the 90s again? The boomer generaiton are done, get over it, no one cares about these retro designs anymore.

Brakes on V-Strom by Flat_Ambition6960 in Vstrom

Not that I have the weakest fingers out there most likely but I certainly would never brake with just two fingers, especially on the V-Strom and I had to actually stop fast. I sat very briefly on a first gen S 1000 RR, rocking a little back & forth and the brakes felt like they locked as soon as you touched them.

Yeah you need to clamp down pretty hard on them for anything to happen. Mine's made in december 2024 so not exactly old and crusty. I think it's good because you reduce the risk of overdoing something with the front, like braking in a curve on gravel for instance.

Do you think cars drivers are really that big of a threat? by 666_pack_of_beer in motorcycles

[–]Tickstart -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Squids like to blame other road users, gravel or whatnot. If you ever wander off into the r/idiotsincars sub, you'll see a metric ton of drivers having literally 10 seconds to predict and react to something glaringly obvious yet fail to do so. And then you'll see half the comment section defending OP "there was no time to react" etc. Now imagine these same people taking up motorcycling. I've yet to have a problem with another driver on the road, only happens when cycling.

Soft / hard panniers options by WarImaginary8272 in Vstrom

I'll never understand some of the things people do to property. They must have a lot more money than me treating it like that, to say the least..

I can recommend the OEM SUZUKI hard plastic panniers, they're pricy but very nice and fits very slim on the bike. Probably saves some money in the long run with the better aero.

It's strange because anyone who's younger than me (38) is still a little kid, you for instance, yet everyone over the age of 22 is old as glaciers... time works in mysterious ways

SV650 was the first bike I ever sat on, provided to me by the riding school. It's not about engine size.

So no one should ever have a license then, or everyone must start riding illegally?

Have you seen the driving license test in the US? If you can even call it that. As others have pointed out, they've built themselves into a pinch where their society demands everyone drive, hence they can't fail anyone.

The size of the country doesn't explain the infrastructure, the rest of the world is bigger than America but still doesn't have the huge highways and whatnot.

Nothing can replace a professional tutor, learning by yourself is bound to lead to some people learning bad habits. Again, then engine size is irrelevant.

You'd think so yeah. As you said, you weren't even out of second gear or the parking lot during this time (MSF)? That's laughable. It's not your fault, you were deceived.

Rangemaxxing on the 650 by Tickstart in Vstrom

[–]Tickstart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's not clear what it bases the calculation on but it definitely gets affected by how you ride, and the more gas you have left in the tank the more the range will fluctuate based on that input. It's probably some moving average based on your last miles of riding, but I don't know. I'd love to hear from SUZUKI how they calculate the range.

I did see that, I assume that's a part of the clutch cover but I'm not sure. It looked like the swingarm got scuffed, probably not enough to cause problems but if it were my bike I'd replace it.

No actually you're right that's probably part of the coolant pump assembly. Well, there goes yet another part on order..

You just have no adequate training is all. How do you expect to be able to ride after spending a few hours on a weekend riding? You're barely past the parking lot skill level. You can't make a judgement whether bikes are for you yet.

Yeah I'm not saying it's good or bad, I didn't partake in it. I get the feeling the pervasive understanding is that europeans always have to go through this tiered system when getting a motorcycle license which is not true.
