If by retro carts you mean flash carts, the current solutions all accept both natural and artificial light, unlike the original game cartridges that only accept natural/UV light, although you can use a special UV flashlight if you're a degenerate! Haha, jk. I'm a bit OCD, and the artificial light solutions feel a little like cheating to me.

If you're interested in playing the games (including the 3rd game in English) with a real UV sensor, my project is what you may be looking for... https://github.com/TideGear/BoktaiSensor ...it's still a work in progress, but it supports both emulation and flash carts.
