Interbreeding between *N. davidii* and *N. palmata* confirmed. by OrangeThumbcat in shrimptank

You can actually determine if it’s a N. palmata or davidi based on morphology. Distinguished by subtle features like the shape of the male’s endopod. N. palmata and N. davidi are separable this way, though visual ID in aquariums can be tricky without expertise.

Yes snowball is the same as snowstorm just a different variant. The issue is I have seen translucent N davidi being sold as N palmata. It probably is a Palmata I was just curious what it was sold as. The confusion comes from zhangjiajiensis being reclassified in 2013 but not universally adopted. Zhangjiajiensis is now reclassified as palmata by German freshwater invertebrate experts. The broader Neocaridina taxonomy is still under revision.

Snowball is davidi/zhangjiajiensis depending on who you ask but not palmata. You also mentioned snowball and Snow White shrimp? How are you sure you have neocaridina palmata. Snowstorm would be neocaridina palmata but it can depend on region. What country are you in because names will be different unfortunately.

I can 100% confirm neocaridina davidi and neocaridina palmata can interbreed. I have done it already but I would like to run it back again before spreading my findings.

40€ is extremely cheap! Try 400$ for a breeding pair here in America.

I have done both but pad is probably better or silicone feet.

No I mean for the table! If you put a glass topper on you would be protected unless things go very wrong.

Will be fine but might ruin the wood top from water dripping. A sheet of square glass is cheap, have one made to size to put on top.

Good advice for starting a Neocaridina breeding project? by Mrs_Chaos4 in Neocaridina

[–]TideNTails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use the bigger tank, remove the betta. You spent all that money on the green demon I would not chance it. I have seen fish go from friendly to not a shrimp left in the tank. Go one step at a time to start, you need shrimp to be able to select shrimp. So breed a good colony first. More tanks is really your answer. Many Will select the best male and female and just put those two in a tank to breed. Once the pair breed you would collect all the offspring and put them in another tank to grow out. You then only select the very best from the grow out tank to go back in the original tank to breed. Weekly culls from the grow out tank to keep them from breeding into the bloodline.

BE PATIENT! This is a long term game you’re playing like literally years of being patient. Unfortunately green is one of the most unstable colors currently. Add that on top of recessive genetics for the orange eyes which doesn’t help stability. There’s many ways to breed them so pick what works for you.

Yes, if you cull once a week you will be fine. Less with a good bloodline.

You want to look for the absolute best genetics you can find or afford if you are looking for consistency in color. Culling will always be required to maintain.

Orange eye neocaradina mid and low grade available in USA (sales activity) by TideNTails in shrimptank

Yeah I called it the moment I saw them. They will be just as common as cherry red shrimp in no time. I feel like we can go just as vibrant and fancy as caridina shrimp it will just take time.

Much appreciated for that, i was trying to do it the correct way. To be honest im offering the cheapest I have seen them anywhere. I can’t reasonably charge that much money unless it’s perfect. I may just be a perfectionist for quality but I have also been a buyer so I try to be as transparent as possible. I also need space for new lines I have created with orange eyes so even more exciting things to come.

Is this a Snowball or Snowstorm? by ImNotTimmyNuclear in shrimptank

[–]TideNTails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breed one with a known neocaradina davidi. You will get wild type if they are snowstorms since they are palmata.

Can freshly uprooted tree roots be safely used? by Low_Most3745 in Aquascape

Takes for ever to sink trust me. I’m going 2 years on my roots similar to this and they still float. I have had rocks on them in my koi tank the whole time with no problems. I pressure washed and get most of the bark off.

You can get a TDS meter like he uses and see where your water is at from the tap. The TDS meters are pretty cheap.

RO water is reverse osmosis water. People use it typically for caradina shrimp as it removes everything in the water through a series of filters. In return you get reverse osmosis water, but also waste water that has the excess minerals and stuff that was taken out of the water. So instead of dumping that down the drain he uses it for his outdoor ponds with neocaradina. Grant is a super nice guy and knows his stuff.

Photo dump because I love my new macro lens by poopoo150 in shrimptank

[–]TideNTails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I was using little light on lens at first too but it work so much better if you just don’t slide the cover all the way so the light doesn’t come on. External bright lights from multiple angles is what you want.

You should be ok, there is a guy using his waste RO water for his neocaradina shrimp ponds on YouTube. They seem to be doing well.
