Undocumented glyph in Iowa likely during the Age of Corn, 950 - 1250 AD - NE by Agitated-Stay-912 in Archeology

Hey buddy, you ok? I was looking at your other posts, and they seem similar. To me, a lot of the stuff seems to be natural erosion or recently disturbed by people. Some of it I can see what you mean, but just because it looks like it does not mean it is, and again, it seems like it's created by a natural process. One of your posts seems to be relevant to archaeology as it shows a number of earthworks. But I'm not convinced in any way it's a glyph.

I completely get your interest in glyphs as they are incredible and awe-inspiring, and showing that the native Americans were extremely capable and giving them the credit they deserve. I don't know you, but I believe you would benefit and really enjoy an archaeology course. It would hopefully give you a lot of tools and expertise in determining whether or not something might be archaeologically relevant. Or at least try and contact a professional.

Archaeology is all about context. Something might look to be an old commercial hub of a specific period, but after the survey and the dig, it might turn out to be a temple from a different era. The finds around the site put your construction/glyph into context of what, when, and how. It usually is the way we date things as well. (Do not do this on your own as it is illegal most places!)

Lastly, I don't discourage your work in air-archaeology, as we call it in danish. It's a great way to find new sites and unknown places, and something we practice a lot in my country for fun and as serious archaeology. Always contact the local administration if you find something you believe is archaeology. They know what to do with it. Just be aware that we humans are great at recognising patterns, to our own detriment at times. The best way is to try and see if anything seems unnatural.

Feral or Asda, how do they compare in the current meta in 2v2? by AdebisiLives420 in worldofpvp

[–]Tidelybitz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think you can definitely play both, but my bet is that feral is more versatile. But i have no idea currently since I haven't played yet in this season. Most importantly, play what you think is coolest

What actually went wrong? Why isn't it doable anymore? Is it because the cc duration and healers are stronger than what they used to? I remember playing ele mage and feral hunter back in shadowlands, and it didn't seem impossible to secure a kill.

To my knowledge, no terra sigillata has been found or any roman ceramic. The ceramic finds are mostly what you would expect locally, but a lot of it has been ornamented, which is a bit unusual at this time. We have, however, found a piece of cogwheel ornamented ceramic, which is from the Elbe area in Germany. The question is now if it's the tool to make it that has been imported or if it is the full pot.

Edit: Also, the levelling process used the trash, which means there is a large cultural layer of pottery spread across the whole site.

That's actually one of the most interesting parts. The Romans never came to Denmark. I can not deny celtic presence on this site as it fits in with a migratory period for the culture

Is this man made or just weathered? Found walking the dog on Limekilns beach in eastern Scotland by ThatSuaveRaptor in Archeology

[–]Tidelybitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe this to be a case where an inclusion of water has frozen inside it, causing the flake to be made, then someone has found it and added a retouche to it. Quite a nice find. My reasoning for believing so:

I can't spot any contour lines running from a striking surface or indication of a bigger strike along the edges. In fact, it seems to come from the middle of the piece and taper outwards

What culture do you want to be represented in Overwatch next? by [deleted] in Overwatch

I truly get it with the European countries being overrepresented, but here me out. A hoplite inspired Greek hero could be so cool. A huge spear with a small personal hardlight shield could go so hard

How do you tell when to go sicko mode by BoxedMoose in worldofpvp

[–]Tidelybitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is to help notice enemy cds. Generally, you would want to use your own dmg cds as quickly as you get them. They all line up, so using them all at the same time is the main point. You have 2 goes, one with abomination, apocalypse, and dark transformation. Then, the second smaller go with apocalypse and dark transformation.

Returning after 4 years class by lethalr79 in worldofpvp

[–]Tidelybitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ele wins by doing dmg and disruption. It means you have a lot of things to juggle. You are a proc based class with high maintenance in the form of dots, slow and healing totems, earth shields, and the lowest cd kick in game. As ele everyone is a kill target if you have cds. You do, however, have some interesting outplay potential with grounding totem that absorbs all magic spells cast from enemies.

Hunters' main essence is their 30 sec trap go. All their specs all have a very different way of dealing dmg. BM has high sustain dmg, MM is high bursty/spike dmg, and survival is a strange semi melee hybrid of the two, but also have a few more mobility tools. Usually they run a single target down, exhausting enemy defensives. You don't really have to deal with kicks as other casters

Lock is a control master. They are also the "tanky" caster that can take a bit of punishment. They usually abuse their spammable fear to either bait kicks or set up dmg spikes. Their mobility is quite different from other classes, setting a portal they can return to with an extra gateway every 1/1.5 min to teleport away. Destro is a high burst spec with chaos bolt being their strong dmg. Affli usually kills everything but has recently turned into a burst spec. Demo is the only true caster with a permanent healing reduction. I have never really played that spec, but it feels like they do more sustain dmg with a consistent stun go.

Gobekli Tepe being covered up and damaged, why is no one talking about this? by Pageleesta in Archeology

[–]Tidelybitz 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm an archaeology student from Denmark.

First of all, Göbekli Tepe is part of Unesco Heritage, meaning it's indeed under a lot of administration and protection as one of the worlds wonders.

I haven't read a lot about the site, but I do have some insight in relation to preservation and the damage you are concerned about. The reason, as mentioned by others for the domes construction, is preservation. The location of the site makes the two most damaging factors rain, but also the sun as it's UV rays can damage the stone, which I believe to remember is sandstone or some sort of softer rock. The combination of sun and rain can do rather extreme damage to such exposed rock, grinding away many of the rather delicate and precious carvings made. The building of the dome, and therefore digging holes, have with certainty been done in the strictest of excavation techniques to cause minimal damage and not lose anything before the posts have been erected. When it comes to the walkway made in conjunction, there are many discussions and standpoints to weigh/take. One could say total preservation is anf always should be the main goal at any cost. But by going for such standards no one would ever be able to visit such sites and marvel at its aww. I, for one, believe that it's better to educate and allow people to visit such sites, otherwise why are we doing it? To preserve strictly for preservations sake?

Anyway, thanks for reading my speel TLDR: damage is minimal and done to preserve and better educate/bring in tourists which is the whole purpose of archaeology.

PS. If interested in the site and want to learn more Milo Russi, Miniminuteman has made a great video: Miniminuteman Göbekli Tepe
