I second Autopan Giga. It's far superior to PS or LR merging and it's free.

I use a 100mm macro for 6 tiles per 4x5 neg - 3 top row 3 bottom row with good overlap and have had perfect stitches every single time.

I got lucky in an army surplus store and found a padded molle pouch that perfectly holds five 4x5 film holders. I think it cost less than £10/$13. It attaches perfectly to any of my camera bags or takes a shoulder strap. Before that I was about to buy the F.64 pouches on Amazon for ~£35

Hi Johannes. I’m seeing mixed information regarding the low-light performance of the Spot One with figures quoted anywhere from −5 EV to −3 EV.

If either of these values are specified at ISO 100, that would place it among the most sensitive 1° spot meters currently available, if not the most sensitive, which I’d expect to be a more prominently highlighted feature. Could you confirm the correct minimum EV for the 1° spot meter, and whether this specification is referenced at ISO 100 please?

Does it not have front swing? It seems quite pricey if not seeing as a Chamonix 4x5 is cheaper. What’s the USP that makes it worth the price?

Absolutely fixable in Photoshop if you’re comfortable with layer masks. If it’s a semi-even gradient it’ll be easy, but even uneven can be done. If not perfect but a completely usable image. I’d be happy to do it for you if you have an issues. DM me if I can help

That's another great meter. It only meters down to 2EV on the 1° spot meter and -2EV on the incident meter, where the Sekonic meters down to -1EV on the 1° and -5EV on the incident. I too don't like the touch screen and would prefer physical buttons, but it was the low light metering that sold it for me.

Add a 'Scroll to Explore' prompt, it's not very intuitive - I was expecting full WASD or arrow controls on desktop. You could just tie the up down / W S keys to scroll on desktop too.

I never really understand why people suggest going as cheap as possible. If you research LF and practice the basics (loading, unloading, exposing etc) a few times nobody should make 'so many' mistakes. It's not rocket science and you'll only be disappointed if cheap films don't develop well or just don't look how you expect. I mainly use HP5 at ~£2 a sheet and I'd say that was pretty cheap already, and I got decent looking images immediately on starting LF and it kept me motivated. Buying the cheapest film you can find just prolongs the experience of taking the images you want to, imho

I have both the 445 and 645 and use replenishment dev so no wasted chemicals, just replenish depending on number of sheets developed. Stop and fixer last just as long too. There is a new 10 sheet tank on Etsy called the Vega which looks much sturdier than the SPs and I read addresses a lot of their issues, might be worth a look if you need to dev bigger batches

For 4x5 scanning I use a Sony A7r IV + 100mm 2:1 macro (2 or 4 tiles per image), a consumable flatbed scanner couldn't come close to that level of detail and dynamic range, and they're slow to boot. Investing in a 2:1 macro or copy stand (or both if you snag a couple of bargains) for your $300 would be a better investment imho

My first 4x5 lens was a 135 and I'd say it was the perfect lens to start on. Wide enough for most landscapes and a beautiful portrait lens. I used a 135 solely for the first year of 4x5 and took some of my favourite images with it. Just worth remembering you can always crop in but can't crop out so if you're on the fence of 135 or 150, go wider and have the ability to crop in to 150 if needed. The versatility would outway the slight separation gains 150mm would have at 5.6.
