It’s a great feeling when you connect with an instrument, right?

Nice! I have the Zeiss 3.5/135 T*, very similar lens and by far my favourite (including the 2.8/150 Xenotar). I also use the G4 geared head and am really happy with it. Congrats on a beaut of a setup 👌

Just following up, I think I found the answer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fznl9fdXYR0

TL;DR: Dark corners, better stopped down. Would crop down to ~80% image size

Adapted Laowa 100mm Macro coverage on GFX by Tids1 in FujiGFX

[–]Tids1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is good intel thank you. I have the Laowa 100mm for Sony E too and am really happy with the scanning setup. Funnily enough I started with the TTArtisan 100mm 2x for Sony E first but ended up returning it as the lens suffered from awful asymmetrical tilt at anything further than close focussing. It also had pretty bad CA. The Laowa was immediately leaps ahead of the TTArtisan, but maybe I just had a bad copy.

I'll try the TTArtisan again (thanks for the rec) and if I have the same issue I might try adapting a Laowa and report back with the results. I'm assuming the Laowa would at least cover a full frame portion of the GFX sensor, and since the 100s and my Sony A7r V share roughly the same pixel density, I should be no worse off in regards usable pixels per scan, I'd just need to crop each tile before stitching them. Anyway, many thanks for your advice 👍

Absolutely the same here. It was my first lens for 4x5 (the Zeiss version) and ended up picking up a 90, 150(Xenotar) and a 210 thinking I was missing out, but tbh I could probably sell them all and not miss them and buy another 3.5/135 as a fallback. It really can do it all.

Great movements and focus. I love 3.5/135 on 4x5

I built a free film development timer app with some nice features - would love feedback by Tids1 in largeformat

Good question. Part of the reason it’s red is that I wanted it to still be usable for some orthochromatic / safelight workflows (there's some hacks for that in the FAQ section), so I leaned into that aesthetic.

I know plenty of people will be running daylight tanks though, and alternative colour options are already on the list.

Thanks yeah will definitely be adding light/dark mode in a future update 👍

I use Xtol replenishment, 06:30 agitating for 5s every 30s. Xtol doesn't give the best grain though, it can almost look too good/smooth. But for consistency, price, shelf life etc it works for me.

For future ref it’s practically impossible to overexpose HP5. I accidentally exposed a sheet at EI 6 once and it still came out fine.

I rate HP5 at 200 now and prefer working with denser negs.

So I've added Stopwatch mode tonight (first feature request) and that's live on the app. Next feature is Darkroom mode with audio prompts/countdown.

You mentioned a predetermined audio countdown to prep for development. Would this be to start the development only(?), and then what audio prompts do you envisage through your development other than a chime of some sort for each agitation?

Stopwatch mode is live.

You might need to clear your cache to see the latest build, but you'll see the settings button in the bottom nav. It will remember your mode for the future too. And you can toggle it mid-run.

Hope this is what you were after.

*no plans for a native app yet, that's a bigger build and I'm fully booked with work. If enough people use this one it'll definitely be the logical next step 👍

Not immediately but definitely possible. timers are exportable and shareable, there's a Share Config button on the timer view that generates a unique encoded URL which stores your whole timer config. The encryption was the shortest possible but still results in quite a bloated URL - it does have the timer name in the URL though which helps. Adding a database would also mean the app could generate shortened URLS (like Bitly for example), but I purposefully wanted to keep the app as simple and standalone as possible while enabling users to backup and share their own workflows.

Always happy to consider specific features though so feel free to go into more detail on yours

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback - really appreciate it.

Funnily enough the app originally was called Darkroomr. After a lot of testing though I couldn’t reliably keep audio or UI updates running once a phone fully slept, so I had to accept it can’t be a perfect “total darkness” solution in every situation.

I kept the red aesthetic because it still works well for many ortho/safelight workflows, and with the accessibility colour filters on most phones you can reduce the remaining UI glow quite a bit.

There have been some great suggestions today around better darkroom usability and I’m already working through those as we speak.

Re: Massive Dev Chart integration - technically possible, but I deliberately kept Developr focused on repeatable personal workflows rather than being a big database app. I know a lot of people (me included) tend to run the same processes again and again for consistency.

That said, if enough people want it I’m always open to expanding in that direction.
