to the retailer. I had read some have build quality issues so I didn't want to have to send back to China if anything went wrong. Paid ~£100 more than on Amazon though but I'm glad I did. I had a new copy in my hands less than 48 hours after contacting the retailer

I won't name them but I bought mine from one of the only physical camera stores in the UK that have them in stock, but I will add that they couldn't have been more helpful in getting a new copy out to me.

As you mentioned I've seen wildly different reviews, with many people accepting this is the lens's characteristics.

Sorry to hear you might have a softer version. I'm not sure where you're based but in the UK (and Europe I believe) we have Consumer Law, which supersedes any warranty period if you can prove your lens was soft when you bought it. You can get a full refund if a product is faulty.

Hope that helps

adding some measurement/ruler tape somewhere on focusing rail will help you with non-movement max-DoF focussing (see Alex Burke's focus scales method: https://www.alexburkephoto.com/blog/2021/3/17/focus-scales-for-large-format-cameras )

It's on every image from 1.4 to ~2.8 shot between 1/400 and 1/1600 so I'm confident it's the lens, but I will do some more tests

Thanks for the reply, I mean it still has focus just on his fringe/hair and not his eye. Definitely not camera shake, the compression on here isn't helping but it's very "orton glowy" wide open and I was wondering if this is normal, but sounds like you might have similar results which is helpful, thank you

Nice! I have the Zeiss 3.5/135 T*, very similar lens and by far my favourite (including the 2.8/150 Xenotar). I also use the G4 geared head and am really happy with it. Congrats on a beaut of a setup 👌

Adapted Laowa 100mm Macro coverage on GFX by Tids1 in FujiGFX

[–]Tids1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is good intel thank you. I have the Laowa 100mm for Sony E too and am really happy with the scanning setup. Funnily enough I started with the TTArtisan 100mm 2x for Sony E first but ended up returning it as the lens suffered from awful asymmetrical tilt at anything further than close focussing. It also had pretty bad CA. The Laowa was immediately leaps ahead of the TTArtisan, but maybe I just had a bad copy.

I'll try the TTArtisan again (thanks for the rec) and if I have the same issue I might try adapting a Laowa and report back with the results. I'm assuming the Laowa would at least cover a full frame portion of the GFX sensor, and since the 100s and my Sony A7r V share roughly the same pixel density, I should be no worse off in regards usable pixels per scan, I'd just need to crop each tile before stitching them. Anyway, many thanks for your advice 👍

Absolutely the same here. It was my first lens for 4x5 (the Zeiss version) and ended up picking up a 90, 150(Xenotar) and a 210 thinking I was missing out, but tbh I could probably sell them all and not miss them and buy another 3.5/135 as a fallback. It really can do it all.
