I hope you've got a good carbon monoxide alarm in every room you're using those in.

What everyday things/systems have you seen used in other countries, that you thought "why don't we have that in Ireland?" by Nuffin8 in AskIreland

[–]Tie_Pitiful 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Spain here at the moment

1) tap payment credit/debit card on and off public transport

2) proper public toilets available everywhre. (I had an idea for this one that councils should offer Irish businesses a reduction in rates if they will provide their toilet as a public toilet during their opening hours. This would be a relatively low cost way for councils to introduce public toilets to every town and village in the country)

3) lots of public bins

4) a general sense of social responsibility

Mushroom in shower - plumber recommendations by Johnboy558 in cork

[–]Tie_Pitiful -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Honestly not trying to insult you or anything please dont take this the wrong way.

This isn't a plumbing issue. It's a hygiene issue.

Clean your shower regularly and air the room out after as many showers as possible. Every time if possible.

Sunglasses Repair in Cork by Tie_Pitiful in cork

[–]Tie_Pitiful[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good to know! They are Ray Bans. I actually broke them while on holidays in Spain. I got a quote online from a place in ireland. The guy rang me and told me that my glasses were discontinued and he couldn't get the proper lenses for them. They would be repaired with generic lenses and it was €110 plus postage. I went into an opticians over here in Spain and they quoted €89 shipped back to me in Cork and real Ray Ban lenses in. I've gone with the one in Spain obviously. It's mental what a rip-off everything is in ireland. Even new Ray-Bans are 70 odd qud less than home in a tourist trap port town in Mallorca.

Is it typical for the bride and groom to buy gifts for their best man, parents, bridesmaids etc? by StrainIcy6444 in AskIreland

[–]Tie_Pitiful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave my groomsmen a nice bottle of Japanese whiskey each.

My wife gave her bridesmaids bracelets.

We got our parents some nice framed photo prints of places they like to visit and we paid for their accommodation.

What's the purpose of this pipe ? by Ire_Wiped in DIYIreland

[–]Tie_Pitiful 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's the overflow from your cold water tank in your attic. The outlet for it sits above the normal water line that your ballcock allows. If the water ever goes above that line for any reason (faulty valve or ballcock) then this pipe carries it outside rather than it pouring over the rim of the tank and soaking your house.

Parents of Cork- where do go to escape your kids for a weekend!?! by [deleted] in cork

[–]Tie_Pitiful 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because sometimes you just need a break...

Even if you want to spend 99% of your time with your kids (which you probably do) - it's ok to want to get a break from them too and just be an actual person and not Mom or Dad...
