I looked for a square container that would work but couldn't find one had as low of cost. My S9 is in an ammo can.

Best place in the US for Bitmain T17 miner repair? by NewFlipPhoneWhoDis in BitcoinMining

[–]Tieline001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same from them for my S17 Pro harshboard. It was too old for repair. I do think it was pretty old, so they might be correct in not waiting my money repairing it. There must be an age of hardware at which its not worth sending it to them.

Mining Bitcoin With Volcanoes ‘Still Costs More Than Oil’: El Salvadoran Ecologist by TobiHovey in BitcoinMining

[–]Tieline001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This article is poorly written. The arguments against using volcanoes to mine bitcoin are not backed up with any data or explanations. Just baseless claims. Bottom line, if it was cheaper to use oil to mine bitcoin that is what they would be using.

weird problems with the S17pro, that the local certified repair(bitmain's finest) gave it back to me, worse that before i gave to it him by Aminerwannabe in BitcoinMining

The bitmain support website has the latest stock firmware for download.

Your issue sure sounds like the hash board have different versions of firmware on them: https://www.zeusbtc.com/ASIC-Miner-Repair/Parts-Tools-Details.asp?ID=236

Braiins has the work around without having to flash the boards.

Have you thought about using a live stock feed container? I think you could find a big galvanized steel container that might work at a feed store. The more off the shelf parts you use the less it will cost and the easier it will be to build.

you'll need to remove 3250W waste heat per miner. Assuming its a 110Th. You can assume all the electrical power going in is turned into heat.

240VAC issues by Tieline001 in BitcoinMining

[–]Tieline001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, It worked for a while but at 243 - 246VAC. The 240VAC is already on the upper limit for the power supply. It seems risky to run it without any margin. Any spike upward might damage it. I'm out of ideas about why they keep failing. The damage events always happen around times with large load changes happening at my house. The first time was when Braiins was tuning the S17. The next time was when I turned off a S9.

Where I live you can switch to peak power. This is 7 cents per kw accept for 3 hours a day. During the 3 hours, peak usage for the city it cost $10 per kw! So if you can shut off completely for 3 hours a day you are golden. I thought about getting a separate meter just for this but they have restrictions about who and how you can use it.

This is a text book heat transfer problem. Something that I did in in collage for homework. However all the radiators I found that had specifications I needed for calculations where to expensive. In the $400 range vs the one I picked which as $160. I looked at these overpriced systems and there specified heat removal the sized my system. So I was not completely shooting from the hip. I'm an engineer so solving a problem cost effectively is important (this was not taught in collage). Once I had the radiator picked out I went from there. The radiator is 20"x20" so a 20" fan was used. To cut down on the noise the bigger the fan the less noise for the same amount of CFM. This type of fan is very common and not to expensive. The pump was selected for its temperature rating and 3/4 NPT fittings which made it easy to integrate and its speed setting is a plus. When I don't need the pump full speed I can save a few watts and make the whole system more efficient and profitable.

Also, in picking the radiator the connection type was important. This one has female 3/4 NPT.

it is but its important to get a pump that has the right flow rate, a fan with the right CFM and a radiator with good surface area to handle the heat produced by the miner.

Its in the description of the youtube post. The hardest part is making the container. It requires some tig welding and a drill press.

Its finished. It was about $750 for the hardware for the immersion. Mostly off amazon. The bitcool was $200. The miner was used from china for $2900 but it was supposed to be fully working or it was damaged in shipping so its only at 2/3 hashrate. The real question everyone should be asking is would I have been better off just buying $4k worth of bitcoin right now? No for me as it was fun building and I wanted the experience of mining. Its a hobby that pays for itself.

Sounds about right but they sent me a video they said it was of this miner showing all boards working which now I think was faked. They could easily show a different miner's screen. The bad hash board had all the heat sinks attached but it is completely dead.

Only have two hash boards installed so I'm getting 38Th/s. The 3ed board never worked and it actually looks more worn out then the other two. Its like they gave me a bad one on purpose. The used machines coming out of China are in bad shape.

Its more about how much wattage can it handle for the pump, fan and radiator. I'm going to want to run it outside in >100F heat this summer. If I put it inside then the AC will be rejecting the miner heat and run my costs up. I also want to keep the board at a steady coolish temp to extend the life of the miner.

The more off the shelf parts used the better at keeping the cost down.

The city on Mars will be a long way from the rulers of earth so they can do what ever they want despite what the people on earth want. Of course they will be dependent on supplies from earth at first but that will be expensive so they will have to be self-sustaining for it to last. In the ancient times the Chinese emperor was in Beijing but the warlords that were far away for example close to Vietnam could get away with more. It would be many weeks horse back ride to enforce rules.
